Donnie Moore sweeps both Races at SAS

San Antonio, Texas – April 15, 2006 – By Neil Upchurch – TPS Race Director

For the first time in the historic racing record of the Texas Pro Sedans, two Feature races were contested on the same race night.

The first and the second 20 lap Feature races were won by Donnie Moore in the familiar #70 VW Scirocco which is owned by George Merrell and headquartered in Kingsland, Texas. Moore led all laps in the “Twin Features” event. The win marks his third consecutive victory in the new 2006 season in which three races have been held.

The second 20 lap Feature race was a “barn burner” at the finish line as the grandstand spectators were treated to a near five way tie for positions two through six as Brice Dishman, Randy Larsen, Tom Johnson, Jesse Sandoval and Jack Dishman were all trading paint at the finish line. It was the most hotly contested runner-up battle in the more than 30 years of TPS racing history.

The Texas Pro Sedans was the largest class at SAS on April 15. In the TPS driver’s meeting, USRA Owner and President and SAS track operator Terry Dickerson told the drivers that “TPS is the largest touring series in Texas”. The event sported an entry list of 26 cars. 23 cars signed in at the SAS pit gate. Kevin Hallman crashed and John Leonard’s blew an engine in practice. The first feature race presented a starting field of 21 TPS four cylinder stock cars. The second Feature race had a reduced starting field of 19 Texas Pro Sedans due to attrition from the first Feature race.

By contesting two races on the same date, the TPS driver point standings were shuffled like a deck of cards. With his performance in each of the Twin Features races, Donnie Moore extends his lead in the 2006 Texas Pro Sedans driver championship points chase.

Defending Champion Sergio Hexsel placed third in the first feature but sees his TPS points standings slip by not competing in the second 20 lap Feature race at San Antonio Speedway. His #20 VW Rabbit experienced engine failure at the finish line in race one and could not make it to the starting grid for race two. He is now 7th in TPS points.

The San Antonio based Texas Pro Sedans touring series will return to the Alamo City and San Antonio Speedway on July 15. That event will again feature the TPS four cylinder stock cars in another Twin Feature race format.

The next Texas Pro Sedans race will be at Thunder Hill Raceway on Saturday, April 29.

ten four 12 but he is fast .he handles good .but we were fast to never got the chance to run with him . that last two laps cost us second place the track was blocked buy 4 wide cars .it was somthing to watch .jessie was blocked in .then 1 car hit the wall the 15 hit us .and everyone scattered .crazy . we just keep having close racing up there .48 sorry about your trans . problem .that 53 was something to see nice to see a bug run that fast .he.s got it going . btw we ran pump gas with last years rules the same sit up as last year .38 restrictor .thanks jack for bringing the 40 mm restrictor .but didnt want to miss whith the car yet .

Thats a car that needs weight added to it.

The one thing about adding weight to that 70 car that means all fwD would also have it added to them . so i dont know if that would be viable to do that .to the 48 33 15 71 and others .i would love to pull weight off our car .but i dont see that happening .just my thought.

Maybe it is time to consider a across the board left side weight rule, same for all cars since we weigh with the driver. Just a thought,I have another thought, but want to research it a little further first though before suggesting it.

OLDTIMER, I DONT THINK YOU ALL HAD ANYTHING FOR THE 70 ROCKET SHIP YOU ALL COULD HAVE STARTED 1/2 TRACK IN FRONT AND WOULD HAVE FINISED 1/2 TRACK BEHIND THE ROCKET. DONNIE IS THE CLASSOF THE FIELD.

Maybe so on that one .but we.ll have to start some where

near him next time to really find out .he is the class of the field untill someone beats him .if no one can .then something should be done about it . we got slowed down

be fore we hit the track with that new car . and i sure would think that tps under fairness would really consider

something for anyone that seams to be alittle out there in the pasture to far. we are restricted that maybe somthing to look at . not my call .but one thing about it . donnie is setting the tone .gb ate everyones lunch for sometime .but not now .neil gave us alittlemore

this year we didnot use the new rules this time in sa .same as last year .but that will be done next time and i am sure we will be closer to him next time .who knows .

you dont know when you lite that fuse if the rocket will blast off .have a nice day .

All I can say is Donnie and his car owner George Merrell have found a winning combination so lets not start all the hollaring about making them add weight,go look at his car and his crew, they are serious, and good at what they do and have built, not to mention that car does not wheel itself around the track,Donnie is driving his rearend off and they have passed every inquiry and tech inspection on the car so whats the problem?????I can tell you that when Donnie came back to the Pro Sedans I was able to race close to him and now he has stepped up and you see the results,I hope to in the near future have an even larger engine for good ole' Herbie and be able to run near the front myself.............just my 2 cents.............Randy Larsen #53

Thats true .and i thought he was way to fast .probly still is.BTW he ran saterday .and we maynot catch him but we will try .if he.s by the book that are set now .its going to be a long season for many .but neil has the right to make ad justments when needed .its in his rules if i remember correctly and he see.s the complaints .and i also think some of these cars a not up to snuff yet .we are not yet .only one race sence last july . but going back to fairness when randy lee was blowing everyones doors off

the next year the rules were adjusted to slow him and anyone else down that ran same stuff he did. this year the rules are adjusted do i like being restricted.[No ] I dont even know how fast our car really is or could be without those penaltys on us . but thats my point if we had to be resticted . then all cars that are way to fast need to be .

TRY AGAIN IN KYLE OLDTIMER

Thats all we can do is try .will do my homework .try a few things. one thing about a faster car . cant beat them if you just lay around .gets your brain working thats one of the best parts .someone will figure it out dont know if it.ll be us .but why not .would like to see lalo back in a car now we dont have him to shoot for .reco looked good thow .

I cant gripe about that top 5 was good .2 place would have been better but cant go around that 4wide line of cars .that was there. we came from 12.th not to bad 25 lap race would have been nice our tires were still good .be.ing that the driver was very rusty. i am happy .i suppose the engene ran hot on the first race help .ed us with the second race for tire wise .cant waite .

for the next one wherever we finish .good day.

I think apples and oranges mix just fine. We even have a few nuts in the mix. I think some people just like to whine when they get beat. Looking at car count in the all rear wheel drive classes at the tracks we race at it doesn't look its the answer. Maybe the secret to Pro Sedans success for over 30 years are the rules. All kinds of 4-cyl cars welcome, and you know that your car can race for years to come. My 48 sirocco started its racing career almost 20 years ago and I am the fourth or fifth owner. Rules may change a little from year to year, but no-ones car gets legislated out. 20 something car count and all kinds of cars speaks for itself.
