  1. I just got off the phone with Bill Lay's son (Bill Jr. aka BJ) who has been one of my best friends for years. In this conversation, he told me that the spectator entrance has been packed and leveled, and that he saw men in hi-vis clothing and hard hats standing on one of the turns holding clipboards and pointing off into the distance. Does anybody know what's in the works for the old lady?
  2. San Antonio Speedway is definitely in danger of being gone forever, unless someone saves it soon! A couple of months ago, Donnie Montgomery had posted several pictures of the speedway's state of deterioration on Facebook. To make matters worse, I got the following news from Brian Bohlen yesterday. "The city of San Antonio has fully annexed the property now. The property has been zoned for a business park, and that doesn't allow for auto racing. The zoning can be changed, but it's going to take time and money. So, nothing can go on commercially there, and the property owners have decided to wait and see if they can sell it as is. The Rusty Wallace Racing Experience has already cancelled their future events because of the permit issue." I guess we all knew this change was in the works, but it doesn't make it an easier to accept that SAS may very well be gone forever! So sad.
  3. I know a lot of you are probably missing San Antonio Speedway, just as I am. I got an e-mail today from a guy named Randy Lewis. He is the world's #1 Trackchaser, earning his title from visiting race tracks all over the world. San Antonio Speedway was Visit #1906 on his list of tracks. Click on the link below for a review of his visit, along with a video, photos, etc., from the Friday night race that was held last September. To view his video and photos, click on the appropriate tabs under the picture of SAS. http://randylewis.org/san-antonio-speedway
  4. Loss of Terry Bernsen

I just got word a little while ago that Terry Bernsen has passed away. He has been battling cancer for quite some time and had been under hospice care for the past few days. Many of you may know Terry from his racing days at San Antonio Speedway. I remember his racing a #7 blue and yellow car - not sure if it was a Street Stock or another class (can't even remember the names of the old classes). I'm not sure which years he raced, but I'm sure some of you may have that information (txtom??). I had the pleasure of working with Terry in the pits at the OctoberFAST race in 2012 when SAS reopened. He had also been a big help in getting the track ready for the reopening. Terry received a phone call from his favorite NASCAR racer, Terry Labonte, a few days ago. Here's a FB link to the call: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10202999527970152&set=vb.1263037105&type=2&theater My thoughts and prayers go out to Terry's family during this difficult time.
