Davenport Wins Third World 100 Title in Five Years at Eldora ROSSBURG, OH – Sept. 7, 2019 – Eldora Speedway’s annual World 100 has often been thought of as Dirt Late Model Racing’s Super Bowl or Daytona 500. Winning it just once puts a driver’s name beside the greatest the sport has ever had to offer, and one of the tallest trophies available into their trophy cabinet. Jonathan Davenport is now the proud owner of three of those globe trophies, as he drove his Lance Landers-owned #49 to victory on Saturday night in front of a capacity crowd to claim his third World 100 title in the last five years. In his eye-catching “Brewster Baker” throwback #49 graphics scheme, Davenport was strong in each race each day this weekend, collecting a preliminary Feature victory on Friday night that set him up for a second-place run in his Heat race on Saturday. That finish gave him a seventh-place starting spot on the grid for the Feature, where he wasted little time on his charge to the front, cracking the podium inside of the first 25 laps. But as then-leader Bobby Pierce approached lap 30, Davenport noticed something in his car starting to fade. Much like Pierce himself experienced in the Prairie Dirt Classic at Fairbury back in July, Davenport’s power steering system had malfunctioned mid-race. Over the course of the next 70 laps, that mechanical failure began to take its physical toll on the Blairsville, Georgia-native. In fact, by the time he had brought his Nutrien Ag Solutions Longhorn Chassis up to the Victory Lane stage, Davenport said he couldn’t even feel his arms. “It was definitely tough. It might have made me better to where I didn’t have to move the wheel much, but I was turning left into the corner with the brake pedal, just trying to hold the wheel straight and exiting the corner using just my foot to accelerate,” he said. From lap 30 onward, Davenport continued to move forward without the aid of power steering, catching and passing polesitter John Blankenship for second on lap 27. A restart on lap 31 marked the beginning of Davenport’s battle with Pierce over the next 40 laps, buying time and track position for Ricky Weiss and his efforts to catch the leaders. As Weiss closed in, the battle between the “Smooth Operator” and “Superman” began to heat up, Pierce on the high side and Davenport chomping at the bit down low. The two had battled this way in lapped traffic 20 laps earlier, but Davenport was only able to get a dive deep enough into the corner to clear the #32 on one occasion – lap 48, where he just barely nosed Pierce at the line on lap 48. Come lap 62, Davenport got enough momentum on the low side to nip Pierce at the line again before Pierce took it back one circuit later. The two sparred for a few more laps before encountering the wrath of “The Manitoba Missile,” as Weiss found something on the topside to make the move on Davenport for second. But that didn’t last long, as “JD” got a great run in the low groove on lap 67, going underneath Weiss and Pierce to take the lead back. This time, it was permanent. “It was awesome racing between us,” Davenport said. “Ricky got up there racing with us in lapped traffic, and I just moved around and found a couple more lines – just got into a rhythm of what I needed to do to rive my racecar the way it was.” Davenport turned on the jets and opened up an advantage of almost two full seconds over Weiss by the time a caution came out with 17 laps remaining for Pierce, who had slapped the turn one wall, ending his chances for glory. Davenport opened up another 2.6-second advantage after the lap 84 restart before another caution waived, placing Weiss and 2007/2011 winner Jimmy Owens right on his rear bumper. His arms were giving out and he was feeling the pressure, but Davenport prevailed, hanging on to lead the final circuits and collect his third World 100 trophy under three different car owners. “Ricky got a really good jump on that second restart. He jumped me just a little bit, and I didn’t spin the tires, but I was trying to be really patient. I pulled back by him just a little bit at the flag stand, had to slide him down here, I’m sure it was very close. But it’s the World 100, you’ve got to do what you can.” His 2015 win came aboard the Kevin & Leeroy Rumley-owned Longhorn Chassis #6, the same year he became the third driver in Eldora Speedway history to win the Dirt Late Model Dream and World 100 in the same year. 2017 saw a red/white #49 pull into Eldora Victory Lane, owned by North Carolinian GR Smith. Now, JD’s current car owner Lance Landers is a World 100 Champion in 2019. Davenport joked that there’s a couple ways of viewing that statistic, but it does go to show the versatility of his veteran driving skills. “Well, you can look at it from one side – I can’t hold a ride down,” Davenport chuckled. “Or the other side is, I’ve won it twice in a Longhorn Chassis, the other in a Rocket. Just about every car owner I’ve had, I could go back and drive for again. A car owner is a car owner, as long as they’re a good one and can give me the tools that I need to work with, I can do my job.” It’s been a terrific season for JD already this year. Leading his full-time national tour in points, 15 Feature wins, and now another crown jewel to add to his collection. He said he’s still kicking himself a bit after a sour ending to his Dirt Late Model Dream run back in June, a race he said he could have won, but tonight he sings a song of redemption and places a cherry on top of his still-unfinished 2019 racing season sundae. “We’ve put ourselves in position to win so many crown jewels this year,” Davenport said. “Either bad racing luck has happened to us or we’ve dolled ourselves out in the 100-lappers… I thought it was going to happen again whenever the power steering started acting up and went out.” Owens also hung onto his runner-up spot from the lap 92 restart, battling with Weiss, Chris Madden and Stormy Scott in the final stages to bag a solid second-place in the World 100 finale. He played the final restart perfectly to get ahead of the field behind him and secure the second spot late, despite his satisfaction with a third-place finish before the restart. “I was really worried about restarts the first time, but we took off in front of Madden, who’s had a great car all weekend,” Owens said. “I was happy with third and thought ‘man, we’re pretty good right here.’ But the longer we run, the further out those guys would get.” Canadian Ricky Weiss wrapped up a podium finish in his very first World 100 start after running up front all weekend. His efforts to stay on the podium with the pressure behind him on the last restart were unmatched, as he made a costly mistake driving into turn one and washing up the track, giving up second to Owens. Madden and Scott got underneath the Turk Enterprises #7W and grabbed the position for two laps after, but the topside momentum propelled Weiss back around them both. “It was a good race until that last restart, we just went for it,” Weiss said. “I mean, second or third… heck, I could’ve got a DNF with the way I drove it in there. Moyer and Hudson O'Neal Earn Eldora's First Two Prelim Victories ROSSBURG, OH – Sept. 5, 2019 – If any race fan out there ever needed a sign that the future of Dirt Late Model racing and its longevity in the motorsports world are alive and well, let Thursday night’s World 100 preliminary Feature results be it. Billy Moyer, 61, of Batesville, AR, and Hudson O’Neal, 19, of Martinsville, IN, collected victories in qualifying Feature action at Eldora Speedway on Thursday night, displaying the potential for domination at any age on the big stage. Forty-two years separates Moyer and O’Neal in age, but it seemed as though age was merely a number no more significant to their driving ability than the one stickered onto the side of their cars. Both drivers wheeled their machines to victory by just plain outrunning their opponents, and those nice event points payouts will certainly come in handy for Saturday’s Heat race line-ups. GROUP A FEATURE As he’s done so many times over his illustrious career at “The Big E,” Billy Moyer showed the field how it’s done over 25 laps to win his first crown jewel event Feature of any kind at Eldora since going to Victory Lane in a 2016 Dirt Late Model Dream preliminary event. Starting from the pole, Moyer immediately grabbed the lead and took off, working his way through multiple segments of lapped traffic near flawlessly through the first 22 laps before the caution came out with just three laps remaining. This put two-time World 100 winner Jimmy Owens, of Newport, TN, right on his rear bumper for the restart. “Jimmy gets around here awfully good too,” Moyer said. “I knew he’d pass some cars to get where he was at, so I knew he’d be good.” Both Moyer and Owens got a good jump on the restart, but Owens was unable to hold the top side through turns one and two and slipped back a few spots. Moyer, however, stayed strong in his turn one charge and was able to fend off a hard-knocking Kent Robinson for the win in the final circuits. “I just tried to hit my marks and not mess up in the last three laps,” Moyer said. When he pulled the black-and-white #21M onto the Victory Lane stage after clearing the scales, “Mr. Smooth” got out and gave a simple wave to the crowd as the pyro lit up on either side of him. He said he wasn’t exactly “beating on this chest” after the checkers were thrown because “everything went [his] way.” After winning this event six times, Moyer knows that to do well at Eldora, a few breaks have to go your way and starting each race up front is crucial. Hudson O’Neal just added that to his resume on Thursday night by grabbing the lead away from Shannon Babb after a restart to claim his very first Eldora Speedway crown jewel event preliminary Feature win. Babb kicked things off by jumping out to the early lead and clicking off the first eight circuits before the race’s first caution came out. On the ensuing restart, Babb got the jump to get ahead and lead lap nine but not without heavy pressure from O’Neal to his inside. The field raced across the start/finish line and O’Neal threw it hard into turn one, pulling a perfectly executed slidejob on the Petroff Towing #18 to swipe the spot, and the eventual win. The Dyno-One #71 brought it the rest of the way home for $10,000 and a good start to his World 100 weekend, as he attempts to qualify for his second main event start. “I knew that I needed to get to the lead, and it was going to be so hard to pass [Babb] racing,” O’Neal said. “That yellow provided the perfect opportunity to take advantage of it.” “I knew that if I could get a good restart and roll with him down the front-stretch, I could probably set myself up good, and that’s exactly what I did,” O’Neal added. He may have been addressed by his clever nickname “The New Deal” in Victory Lane at the end of the night, but walking around in the pit area earlier Thursday afternoon, he was known as the birthday boy. And what a special gift he received from “The World’s Greatest Dirt Track,” a World 100 preliminary Feature victory and an authentic event plaque to commemorate. “It’s just a dream come true to stand on that stage, to be able to win here at Eldora,” O’Neal said. “I’m excited for tomorrow.” He may have only been at the controls of a Dirt Late Model for a small fraction of the time his father Don has over his racing career, but Hudson has fond memories of gracing Victory Lane stages with one of his childhood heroes as a young boy, and admits it was cool to see the roles reversed all these years later. “Sharing this with my dad was probably the best part of this whole deal,” O’Neal said. “To be able to stand on that stage and take a picture with him, it’s kind of gone full-circle. Gordy Gundaker wins at Macon with DIRTcar Late Models Story by Ruben Mireles MACON, IL – July 4, 2019 - Gordy Gundaker goes back-to-back in the Herald & Review 100 at Macon Speedway after getting around Bobby Pierce on a last lap pass to win his second career Summer Nationals "Hell Tour" event. The St. Charles, Missouri racer won it on the bottom in 2018 and does it again in a thrilling finish, bringing fans to their feet in the final corner. Twenty-four DIRTcar Late Models checked in on Thursday night at the 1/5-mile as the fans packed the stands for the 4th of July special. Two-time event winner Bobby Pierce sat on the front row with five-time Herald & Review 100 winner Shannon Babb. On the start, Bobby Pierce quickly threw a slider on Babb for the lead to get to the top, but Babb crossed Pierce over to retain the top spot. Babb lead almost the entire way with several cautions mixed in through 100 laps. Three different leaders in the final three laps set the stage for an epic finish. Heading into turn three on lap 98, Pierce threw a bonzai slidejob on Babb for the lead that resulted in Babb making contact with the wall, putting him out of the race with significant right-front damage. Babb, who led 97 laps until that point, drew the caution and eventually retired from the race. Pierce then led the field to green on the restart with Brian Shirley and Gundaker following. Pierce ran away to a commanding half-straightaway lead on the white flag lap, as Gundaker passed defending Summer Nationals champion Shirley for second. It seemed as though Pierce won the race as he powered off of turn four towards the checkered flag, but the caution was thrown. Ryan Unzicker and Dennis Erb Jr. came together on the back straightaway, putting Unzicker in a very dangerous position. Officials called the yellow for Unzicker, parked on the back straightaway. This led to a single-file restart with 99 laps complete and $5,000 on the line. Pierce threw it in very hard on the top of turns one and two on the restart and was almost completely sideways upon corner exit, leaving the bottom door open for Gundaker. Pierce pushed in the middle of three and four, shooting his momentum down, allowing Gundaker to slip by underneath and collect his second career Hell Tour victory. Mother Nature might have been a thorn in the side of the Summer Nationals this season, but the racing and storylines have been second to none when the rain has stayed away, and Thursday night was no exception. Babb Is Back HIGHLAND, IL – June 29, 2019 – Three-hundred sixty-nine days ago, Shannon Babb picked up his 97th career DIRTcar Summer Nationals “Hell Tour” win at the Spoon River Speedway on June 25, 2018. Tonight, as Series Announcer Ruben Mireles declared in Victory Lane, “Babb is Back!” as he emerged victorious for the 98th time in his Summer Nationals career Saturday night at the Highland Speedway. Billy Moyer, the only driver with more Hell Tour wins than Babb at 100, held strong all race long to claim the runner-up spot. Rusty Schlenk bagged a third-place finish, tying his best Summer Nationals finish this season. As Rusty Griffaw led the field around for opening circuits, Brandon Sheppard and Babb started their battle for position – Sheppard hammering the cushion and Babb swiftly maneuvering the bottom. Sheppard eventually got the best of Babb by the fifth lap and led the next 11 laps, as Moyer continued his charge to the front from his ninth-place starting spot. But the cushion proved to be too much for Sheppard’s right-rear Hoosier tire to handle, and he pulled his #B5 machine into the infield with the flat tire after fading back to seventh by lap 28. By this point, Moyer had already completed his charge to the front, nearly going four-wide with Schlenk, Bobby Pierce and Sheppard at one point for the runner-up spot. But the young guns of the tour just weren’t able to outdrive the veterans. Babb had taken the lead from Sheppard for good on lap 18 and held it the rest of the way to score his first Hell Tour victory of the season. Sheppard Dominates Terre Haute for Second DIRTcar Summer Nationals Victory - Hoffman’s last-lap pass wins DIRTcar Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals thriller TERRE HAUTE, IN — June 28, 2019 — Brandon Sheppard has been the hottest driver on the planet this season, and he showed why on Friday night at the Terre Haute Action Track when the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series battled the DIRTcar Summer Nationals. While Sheppard, of New Berlin, IL, maintained the top spot and charged to a dominating victory, Bobby Pierce surged from eighth to finish second with legends Darrell Lanigan, Billy Moyer and Shannon Babb rounding out the top five. The victory was Sheppard’s second on the Summer Nationals tour this season, but the first in his #1 Rocket XR1 Outlaw ride as he also won in his family-owned car at Jacksonville Speedway. In the DIRTcar Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals Feature, Will Krup led the first 19 and a half laps, but Nick Hoffman swung by on the outside coming off turn two on the final lap to earn his third third consecutive victory and fourth overall on the tour this summer. Hoffman, of Mooresville, NC, chased Krup from the outset, but when the white flag flew Krup was dealing with traffic that allowed Hoffman to pick his way to the lead and hold off Krup to the checkers. Tyler Nicely was third with Hunt Gossum and David Stremme rounding out the top five.   6. Hoffman Goes Back-to-Back! Story by Ruben Mireles BROWNSTOWN, Ind. - June 27th, 2019 – Nick Hoffman stops Tyler Nicely once again as they finish one and two on back-to-back nights. It was a double duty shift for the North Carolina driver Nick Hoffman as he raced in both DIRTcar Late Model and DIRTcar Modified divisions on Thursday night at the Brownstown Speedway. Hoffman would cash the $1,000.00 payday for his third win of the 2019 DIRTcar Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals. Nicely jumped to an early lead on the bottom with Hoffman quickly challenging on the bottom for the lead on lap two from the third starting position. Hoffman took the lead on the bottom from Nicely on lap three and jumped to a commanding lead early. Mike McKinney, from the fifth starting position, would get around runner-up Nicely for second, nine laps into the feature. Following McKinney back to the front was Ryan Thomas as he would also power around Nicely for third and challenged McKinney for second. Nicely would bounce back and pass Thomas until a caution flew. Hoffman wouldn’t be challenged on the restart as he would drive away to win back-to-back with the DIRTcar Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals. Tyler Nicely would finish second, Ryan Thomas third, and Kenny Wallace drove from eleventh to fourth in Thursday's twenty-five lap feature.   7. Marlar Cashes in at Brownstown Story By Ruben Mireles BROWNSTOWN, Ind. - June 27th, 2019 - Mike Marlar holds off a hard charging Darrell Lanigan for the win at the Brownstown Speedway! Marlar from the seventh starting position would claim his fifth DIRTcar Summer Nationals Victory for $5,000.00. JIm DenHamer photo The 40-lap feature started with a rookie-veteran front row. Cade Dillard from Robeline, Louisiana set the pace with Batesville, Arkansas Hall of Famer Billy Moyer Sr. At the start, Dillard pulled away from Moyer to lead the opening laps. Marlar, from the seventh starting position, would jump to second in less than ten laps. Dillard pulled away by a half-straightaway until Marlar closed the gap when Dillard encountered the rear of the field. Paul Stubber would run the middle of the Brownstown Speedway making Dillard chose the top line to get around him. Dillard’s decision to move up high opened the door for Marlar on the bottom. Before both cars got around the 31 car of Stubber, Marlar stole the lead on the exit of corner number four. Marlar would seal the deal when he slide-jobbed both Dillard and Stubber in turns one and two. A caution would fly one lap later for Steve Casebolt off the pace on the back straightaway. On the Delaware double-file restart, Cade Dillard picked the outside, putting Scott James inside him. James would take second from Dillard on the restart with Lanigan from the thirteenth starting position working his way to fourth on the restart. Lanigan would continue his march to the front as he would pass Dillard on the bottom. Two laps later, Lanigan would pass James for the runner-up honors. Mike Marlar was the only driver separating Lanigan from $5,000.00. On the closing laps both drivers caught rear of the field allowing Lanigan to get under Marlar several times. The lapped cars forced Mike Marlar to switch grooves. That shut down Lanigan’s run down low, allowing Marlar to run away and pick up his fifth Hell Tour Victory!   9. 34th Annual DIRTcar Summer Nationals Kicks Off Wednesday in Peoria Most grueling tour in motorsports features 26 races over 32 nights CONCORD, NC — June 12, 2019 — The DIRTcar Racing Summer Nationals “Hell Tour” is set to kick off the 34th consecutive year of competition in 2019. Starting on Wednesday, June 12, at Peoria Speedway (IL) and ending with two straight nights at Oakshade Raceway (OH) on July 12-13, the premier drivers and teams within the DIRTcar Late Model ranks will race in 26 events in 32 days spread out over eight states vying for a whopping $235,000 in first-place prize money over the marathon five weeks of competition. Several late changes to the schedule include: The Highland Speedway and Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 events are trading dates to allow I-55 to complete clean-up from river floods this spring. The $10,000-to-win event at Highland Speedway is now scheduled for Saturday, June 29, and the $10,000 to win event at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 will now be run on Saturday, July 6. The World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series will no longer be part of the event at I-55, as it is scheduled to race at Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, MN on that date. Davenport Speedway will replace LaSalle Speedway on the schedule. The quarter-mile Davenport, Iowa track will now host a $5,000-to-win event on Thursday, July 3rd. The event originally scheduled for Wednesday, June 26, in Paducah, KY has been canceled. A minimum of $5,000-to-win each night is on the line with nine of the events paying $10,000 to win. Three-time and defending DIRTcar Late Model National Champion, Rusty Schlenk also returns to the DIRTcar Summer Nationals for the second year in a row. The McClure, OH star went winless in 2018 on the Hell Tour but did finish fourth in the final standings. He does have two career victories but hasn’t seen victory lane since 2010 at his home track of Oakshade Speedway (OH) back on July 17 of that year. His only other triumph also came that year, at Kokomo Speedway (IN), so Schlenk will look to end a nine-year winless streak on the Hell Tour. The remainder of the final top 10 in points from the 2018 tour are all expected to compete for the 2019 title. Led by El Paso, IL star, Ryan Unzicker who scored a ninth-place finish in the final points standings in 2018. He scored a single win, back on June 22, 2018 at Tri-City Speedway (IL) and has finished in the top 10 in Summer Nationals points every year since the 2010 season with a career best finish of a second in 2014. Gordy Gundaker has been a regular on the tour since the 2016 season and finished seventh in points after finishes of fifth in 2016 and third in 2017. The St. Charles, MO driver finally scored that elusive, first career Summer Nationals victory on July 5, 2018 at Macon Speedway (IL). Also picking up their first career Summer Nationals wins were Devin Moran, Tanner English, Chad Zobrist and Zach Dohm, who won both races at Oakshade Raceway (OH) for the first two of his Hell Tour career. Repeating as victors in 2018 that were not in the top 10 in points were Brandon Sheppard (2) and Billy Drake, whose last win prior to 2018 came in 2003. Dreams of Redemption Turn to Reality for Davenport and Clanton at Eldora ROSSBURG, OH – June 7, 2019 – Redemption seemed to be the theme of the Friday night portion of Eldora Speedway’s Dirt Late Model Dream. Jonathan Davenport, of Blairsville, GA, grabbed a feature win just one night after giving it away on the last lap, and Shane Clanton, of Zebulon, GA, dominated the competition in his feature event and went to Victory Lane for the first time in Dream action since his $100,000 win in the 2012 finale. Group A Competition On Thursday night, “Superman” Jonathan Davenport set himself up for a tremendous run to a preliminary checkered flag, winning his heat race and redrawing the outside pole. He led every lap in his feature… except the one that mattered most. 2003 Dream winner Darrell Lanigan, of Union, KY, made a spectacular move on the final lap to get by Davenport and steal the win. Davenport wasn’t exactly crushed by the outcome, as those runner-up points are very good, but said afterwards that he shouldn’t have been so hesitant to change lanes on the track to keep the momentum up. Friday night’s race, however, was a different story. Redrawing the outside pole from a runner-up heat race finish, Davenport took the lead from 2017 Eldora Speedway Track Champion Kent Robinson, of Bloomington, IN, on lap two and never looked back, leading the next 24 laps to claim his fifth career Dirt Late Model Dream preliminary feature event. But it wasn’t exactly a brisk walk in the park… The race started with smooth sailing for Davenport, until he ran into troublesome lapped traffic with 10 laps remaining. Mason Zeigler and Ashton Winger were battling it out at the rear when Davenport arrived at their bumpers, holding him up and allowing Robinson to close the gap. Davenport said he could feel the pressure coming from behind, before doing what he failed to on the previous night – move up the track to get by slower traffic. “I could watch the video board and I saw Kent Robinson getting a little closer to me,” Davenport said. “So, I went to the top one lap just to try it, I caught just a little bit of the cushion and that got me just enough of a run down the back-straightaway where I could clear Ashton.” That decision proved to be the move of the night for the 2015 Dream winner, as it opened the gap between he and Robinson up just enough for the laps to run out. Now, “The Georgia Bulldog” is back, and prouder than ever to get another win this season for Capital Race Cars, on one of the grandest stages in the sport. “This means a lot,” Clanton said. “We’ve come close in a couple preliminaries and led a lot of laps in the Dream and the World [100]. Hopefully, tomorrow, we can lead all 100 of them.” Clanton put together a great, all-around effort in Group B action on Friday, winning his heat race and redrawing the outside pole. He swiped the lead away from Ross Bailes, of Clover, SC, at the drop of the green and floated through lapped traffic, leading all 25 laps to claim his first career preliminary Dream feature win. Through all of the work that he, his crew, teammate Chris Madden and chassis builder Marshall Green have put into their program this season, Clanton said it was the little adjustments that made the biggest difference. “We’ve changed a lot, not necessarily components on the car – just tweaking here and there,” he said. “It’s hard to make the right adjustments at the right time. That’s where we seem to struggle. We’ve got speed, we just need to make it at the right time.” On Thursday night, Clanton said it was a mistake in his heat race that cost him a spot in the redraw and a subsequent top-five finish in his feature. But the veterans know how to leave the past in the past and keep searching for future improvements. “We didn’t show up last night because we started further back and I messed up a little bit in the heat race,” he said. “If we would have gotten into the redraw, maybe started on the front row, maybe we could have won last night. We made better adjustments for the feature last night, we worked on that today and got it even better.” What a weekend it has been so far for the driver out of Mt. Holly, NC, Chris Ferguson. After having such a rollercoaster start to his 2019 campaign (multiple mechanical failures, 2 wins), “Fergy Time” has found his stride at Eldora this weekend. “We’ve been fast, but this year has just been up-and-down,” he said. “Any time you can put it together at one of the biggest races of the year, that just makes it even better.” With an 11th-to-4th effort in Thursday’s feature, Ferguson followed it up with a second-place effort to Clanton in both his heat race and feature on Friday. Starting third in the feature and making the pass for second around Bailes on an early restart, Ferguson made every effort to catch Clanton, but came up just one spot short of his first career victory at Eldora. “I would have loved to have been a little bit better to keep up with Clanton, but we’re tickled to death with second,” he said. “It was fun. The car was good, we needed a few adjustments and I think we could have been a little bit better, but we had a good race with Ross for second on the restart. Lanigan and Weiss Headline Thursday Night Action at #DLMDream25 ROSSBURG, OH – June 6, 2019 – The 25th running of the Dirt Late Model Dream started out with everything the Dirt Late Model world was hoping for on a Thursday night – clear skies, warm weather and a record car-count not seen in 7 years. The only thing left on the list was some incredible racing from the industry’s best competitors. And boy, did they ever deliver on that. 92 of the best DIRTcar Late Model drivers in the world packed the pit area and put on a show the Eldora Speedway crowd would not soon forget, starting with Darrell Lanigan’s incredible last-lap pass for the win over Jonathan Davenport in Group A’s Feature. Fellow World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series regular Ricky Weiss also put the moves on his competition, driving around World of Outlaws veteran Chris Madden and Thursday’s fast qualifier Jacob Hawkins to pick up his very first win at Eldora in the Group B Feature. Group A Competition: Lanigan came right out of the gate swinging, setting fast time in Group A and picking up a redraw spot from his second-place effort in Heat 1. Meanwhile, Davenport qualified 10th in the group, but muscled his way to a victory in Heat 2, setting him up for an outside-pole redraw. From the drop of the green, every fan in attendance likely thought it was going to be another smooth-sailing cruise to victory for “Superman.” He hit a thick part of lapped traffic on lap 10, but expertly maneuvered through it to hold his lead over Chatham, IL’s Brian Shirley. But this advantage would fade quickly, as Lanigan put a strong move on Shirley going down the backstretch on lap 15. With 10 laps remaining, “J.D.” was now a sitting duck. Without a doubt, Lanigan’s Club 29 car was the fastest machine on the racetrack in the final laps, as he closed the gap rapidly. With three laps left, there was almost no gap between he and Davenport, and that’s when Lanigan knew it was time to crack the whip and set up to make the move. Two lapped cars sat in Davenport’s way – Brandon Overton on the low side, John Blankenship on the top. With no choice but to get off the bottom, Davenport moved to the middle-top in turns three and four to take away Lanigan’s line, coming to the white flag. Naturally, Lanigan turned it back underneath Davenport and drag-raced him down the front-stretch. “Once we took the white, I saw a black car beside me and I didn’t know who it was,” Davenport said. “It sounded like he was in the gas pretty hard, so I figured it was somebody.” Into turn one they raced, and with minimal contact, Lanigan drew a nose in front of Davenport. They drag-raced again down the backstretch, around Overton, and when Davenport slipped way up to the top in turn three, Lanigan saw just enough room to get by underneath and made the most of it. Davenport made a last-ditch effort to try and swipe the spot away on the bottom, but to no avail. It was over. The “Bluegrass Bandit” had won the third Dirt Late Model Dream preliminary Feature of his career, and what a ride it was from his perspective. “I got a good run off the bottom [of turn three] and got up beside him,” he said. “We rubbed a little bit getting into turn one, and then we went three-wide with the lapped car. I think Davenport was rubbing the wall [back into turn three], but we came out ahead, and it was fun.” On the other side, Davenport knew he had let one slip away, but was in light spirits, as a second-place finish in a preliminary feature gave him a great start to his weekend in event points. “I think [my night] went really well, up until the last 200 yards,” Davenport said with a chuckle. Weiss laid down a lap of 16.041 in qualifying, only good enough for 15th in Group B. However, with the lineup procedure for the Heat races, Weiss started on the pole in Heat 4 and won, setting himself up for a fourth-place redraw effort. And did he ever make the most of it… Right from the drop of the green, the Turk Enterprises, Sweet-Bloomquist chassis #7 was a rocket ship. He made the move underneath Chris Madden on a crossover move out of turn four to take the runner-up spot on lap 4 and wrestled the lead from Jacob Hawkins by lap 10. From that point onward, it was smooth sailing for Weiss. Nobody was able to even come near the black-and-orange #7, as he led the final 16 laps to claim his very first Feature win at “The Big E.” “From the second we pulled in, my crew unloaded the car, and we’ve all been pretty confident on that car and that program,” Weiss said. “This is one of our favorite tracks, and we knew, coming in, that we’d be something to contend with.” As expected, Weiss and the crew had a lot of Scott Bloomquist’s teachings in the back of their heads on Thursday night, and were especially proud to pick up the victory for his brand. “This was just an awesome race for the Bloomquist cars. It just goes to show how strong we really are,” Weiss said. Meanwhile, Chris Madden got the bounce-back finish he needed on Thursday, fighting for the runner-up spot with Jacob Hawkins early and finally running off with the spot on lap 13. He held that spot and looked very strong the rest of the way – a much-needed boost of confidence after experiencing some mechanical misfortunes in previous weeks’ competition. Inaugural Nashville Fairgrounds DIRTcar Clash in the Books NASHVILLE, TN – May 25, 2019 – Almost two weeks’ worth of track prep and 181 truckloads of dirt later, the inaugural Fairgrounds DIRTcar Clash is in the books. And what a turnout it was on Saturday night at the track, in the grandstands and the pit area. A total of 104 cars passed through the pit gates of Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville, in four divisions of 17 DIRTcar Pro Late Models, 36 Quicksilver Performance Street Stocks, 18 Pure Mini Stocks and 33 Mod Lites. Four Qualifying sessions set four new track records around the 1/4-mile – Matt Cooper (Pro Late Models) [16.339]; T.J. Herndon (Street Stocks) [17.235]; Aaron Ashcraft (Pure Mini Stocks) [19.192]; Jon Padille (Mod Lites) [16.769]. Remarkably, three of these drivers went on to win their respective Feature race, displaying their piloting prowess over their opponents. After 14 Heat Races and a bit of track preparation, the DIRTcar Pro Late Models took to the track one final time for their Feature, where fast qualifier, Heat Race #1 winner and polesitter Matt Cooper put on a dominant display of short track mastery, as he led all 20 laps en route to winning the very first Feature ever ran on dirt at the Nashville Fairgrounds. “This is really special,” Cooper said with a big smile on his face. “We’re not asphalt racers, but everybody knows the history of this racetrack, so it’s real special.” What a feat his performance was, considering Cooper was one driver who did not take a single lap of practice prior to Hot Laps on Saturday. He very quickly adapted to the expertly prepared racing surface, courtesy of Scott Woodhouse from Thunderbowl Raceway and William Scogin of Clarksville Speedway. With no prior track time, Cooper made the most of the uncharted territory, and was very pleased with the results. “The track was actually better than I thought it was going to be,” Cooper said. “I thought it might’ve gotten rough, but it actually stayed together pretty good.” Echoing the McKenzie, TN-native, runner-up Brad Skinner also said it was a great race and a really fun track to drive on. But that enjoyment didn’t come without a good sense of competitiveness. “Unfortunately, I had to bump a couple of people,” Skinner said. “We moved up a few positions and I’m pretty happy about that. And we made history [in the process].” Skinner came from his fifth starting spot and battled his way up to third by lap four, then made the move for second on lap 16 and spent the remaining circuits putting pressure on Cooper. In the end, he was unable to catch the leader, but said he was glad to have the opportunity to be a part of an event as special as this. “I had a ball,” Skinner said after the race. “I can’t complain a bit. Last night, I came here to practice and it was a little more hooked up, you could hammer it off in the corners. It dried out a bit tonight, but still a lot of fun.” Steve Peeden came from the deepest in the field out of the podium finishers to cross the line in third. In 20 laps, Peeden made the charge from ninth and did his small crew of girlfriend and mother (who also drove 5.5 hours in the truck with him from their home town in Indiana) proud, after making repairs from his qualifying round. “We knocked the wall down in qualifying and knocked the spoiler off of it,” Peeden said. “It got a little sketchy a couple of times, but it was a heck of a race for us.” After the DIRTcar Pro Late Models had concluded, the Pure Mini Stocks took to the track in what ended up being a great battle between Heat Race winners Joseph McGhee and Aaron Ashcraft. After not receiving a Qualifying time due to a mechanical failure in the staging lane, McGhee came back to win his heat race convincingly, earning himself a third-place starting spot for the Feature. With just four laps remaining, McGhee took the lead, and the first Pure Mini Stocks Feature win at Nashville. The Quicksilver Street Stock Performance Series then came out for their Feature, won by fast qualifier T.J. Herndon. Herndon wrestled the lead away from Dale Nelson by lap 5 and didn’t look back, leading every lap from there on out to pick up the win, besting each of his 35 other competitors in the pit area. Last, but certainly not least, was the Mod Lite division, which saw Jon Padille, from Illinois, pick up the victory after setting fast time earlier in the evening. The track size seemed to work well for the 32 cars in the division, as they were able to lay down, approximately, the second-best average lap times behind only the Pro Late Models. Overall, through three hours of practice on Friday night and 187 total laps of racing on Saturday, it was quite the first weekend out on a brand-new track. Marlar Takes Late Model Week Race 1 Marlar Battles Back on the Topside to Win Late Model Feature No. 1 BARBERVILLE, FL – Feb. 11, 2019 – How many drivers can say they won in their third night out with a team that hasn’t raced in two seasons? 2018 World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series Champion Mike Marlar can now, as he, Darrell Lanigan, Josh Richards and Scott Bloomquist (18th to 3rd) put on an amazing display of passing and battling through 30 laps that saw Marlar come out on top for his first-ever victory at Volusia Speedway Park with his brand-new K&L Rumley Racing-owned ride. “It’s cool to get to win in something that’s an iconic ride,” Marlar said. “It’s been a lot of fun getting to know these guys and already having some success. It’s been awesome.” “The Winfield Warrior” started third on the grid and took the lead away from outside polesitter Chase Junghans on lap 6, and held it until just over 10 laps remaining, when Richards powered underneath to take the lead. Marlar would get Richards back, however, as he drilled the cushion with his right rear and stood on the throttle coming out of turn four to complete one of the most aggressive and fearless passes of the night. That proved to be the winning move, as Marlar would not relinquish the spot, giving him a nice $7,000 start to Late Model week at Volusia. “Going down the back straight-away, I knew that he was pushing,” Marlar said “And when I saw him pushing, I knew I was going to have to back up his corner and turn his car, so I just said ‘here’s my chance.’ So I just blasted around the outside and tried to catch him when he was out of the gas, trying to get turned, and that gave me enough of a run. I just barely squeezed by and got back into the groove in front of him.” Marlar joined Kevin and Leeroy Rumley’s team in late 2018 as the new driver of their iconic No. 6M, after Marlar’s former car owner Ronnie Delk announced his plans to step down from full-time racing at the conclusion of the 2018 World of Outlaws season, falling right in line with Marlar’s own plans to also scale back on his racing career. At the time, there was much speculation as to where Marlar would be racing in 2019 and how frequently. As it turns out, a part-time, pick-n-choose schedule aboard the black-and-blue No. 6M is a perfect match. But the team didn’t exactly get this impressive of a start straight out of the hauler. Marlar made a very-welcomed appearance at the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series season opener at Screven Motor Speedway last Friday and Saturday night, but posted only a 25th-place finish after getting into a jingle with Ivedent Lloyd Jr. early on. Saturday wasn’t much better – a 22nd-place effort, three laps down. But what a turnaround he and the Rumley Racing team has made in just a matter of hours, as they undoubtedly had the fastest car on the racetrack Monday night. “It’s totally different stuff on the car than in the last two days,” Marlar said. “It took me a few laps in the feature just to learn how to drive it. Once I figured out what I could do with it, I was able to go forward. It was an awesome win, that was so much fun.” There seems to be a semi-common theme to Speedweeks this year – drivers debuting in their new rides and having immense success right away. From Tyler Erb’s three-for-four stretch at Golden Isles Speedway and East Bay Raceway Park last week, to Chris Madden’s runner-up and top-10 finishes at Screven last week, the Late Model world is alive with the sweet smell of newfound success. And Marlar would agree. “I think what you’re seeing is that there’s a lot of smart people in this sport and a lot of people that know the chemistry within these different teams and knowing what they need to win,” Marlar said. “With that being said, I think a lot of these guys made changes that helped the team they left, and then the guy that filled in there did better in some situations.” Another very impressive drive to a podium spot on Monday night was actually the winner of Last Chance Qualifier 2, Scott Bloomquist. “Black Sunshine” did not have the heat race he was looking for but was able to bounce back with a very convincing win in his LCS. Ironically, his protégé, 2019 World of Outlaws Rookie of the Year contender Ricky Weiss, won the other LCS, putting both Sweet-Bloomquist chassis into the show. From the 18th starting spot, Bloomquist began the charge on lap one of the Feature, passing five cars on the first lap and cracking the top ten next time around. Bloomquist kept climbing from there, reaching P5 inside of 15 laps and making the move underneath Richards for third with five to go. That’s where he would stay, a very telling effort by the race’s Hard Charger Award winner and former World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series champion. “It was definitely capable of winning the race this evening,” Bloomquist said. “I didn’t want to see that caution [with 10 laps to go]. The caution comes out, the tires don’t act the same. I got stuck behind Junghans there and I should have just went outside of him. The next time, on that last caution, I did go outside of him and I got by him and some others and the car was really rolling good.” “Bloomer” is certainly no stranger to Victory Lane at Volusia, having won 12 features at the famed half-mile since his first in 1994. And he said he knows what he needs to do to make it 13 this week. “I am pretty confident that we can just take left with tonight,” Bloomquist said. “I’ve already discussed some things with Cody [Mallory] and told him at least two or three things that I know we’ll do different for tomorrow, and then we’ll sleep on it and see what comes from above.” Around the lap 32-mark, the battle for the runner-up spot was on between Darrell Lanigan and Josh Richards, the former and current Clint Bowyer Racing pilots. The gloves appeared to have come off right on the track, as multiple instances of contact between the two were seen throughout lap 32. When it was all said and done, Lanigan came away with the second-place spot, and Richards settled for fourth behind Bloomquist. When asked for comments on the situation, Lanigan replied “We had a really good piece. Like I said [in Victory Lane], if we wouldn’t have gotten tangled up there with Josh, he just doesn’t want to race you clean… I think we had a chance to win it if we wouldn’t have got tangled up with him, but we’ve got a long week.” Richards, however, saw things differently. “We were just racing,” Richards said in an interview after the race. “I don’t know, I was underneath him and I did drive in there a little bit, and then I stopped to keep from sliding into him. Then, instead of him going around the outside, he tried to cross back over and got hooked.   14. Buzzie Reutimann isn’t slowing down anytime soon BARBERVILLE, Fla — Feb. 9, 2019 — For more than six decades Emil “Buzzie” Reutimann has been behind the wheel of a race car. The Zephyrhills, Florida native is known in the racing community as a “racer’s racer” as he personifies what it means to be old school. He still works on his cars, he still loves to compete, and he still has his family with him — or at least close by in Gator Pond Pits while he's parked infield at Volusia Speedway Park for DIRTcar Nationals. Winning the first-ever Super DIRTcar Series race at Orange County Fair Speedway in 1972, he finished the season with an incredible 33 wins at both Nazareth Speedway (NJ) and Orange County Fair Speedway for a total of 66 trips to Victory Lane. To top that off, in 1972 and ‘73 he won the Schaefer International 100, which later transformed into NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week. And that’s just a two-year snapshot, folks. Returning to Volusia Speedway Park for the 48th running of the DIRTcar Nationals, Buzzie doesn’t show any sign of hanging it up. In fact, he plans to run a full slate of races this year, while he also stays busy working on customers’ cars and running a business. What do you think of the improvements here at Volusia Speedway Park? Oh boy, this is great. They’ve really done a great job. I was over here a few weeks ago, and boy, the front stretch wall was a mess. It wasn’t finished yet, and the catch fence wasn’t up. I went back and told David on the phone, “I don’t know if they’re gonna have that place ready to race or not.” What a job they have done! And in a short while! They must have worked day and night to get it like it is. What I like about it is they’ve done a lot for the spectators too. New stands and the way they’ve got it fixed up. It’s really great. What do you do to keep yourself physically and mentally sharp? Do you have an exercise routine? Well, not exactly; I just work every day. Every morning I get up, and I’ve got my little business called Reutimann Racing. We work on other people's cars and our own cars. It keeps me busy. We start every morning at 8:00am. Of course sometimes on our coffee break we might get to telling stories and sit there until 10:00, but then we go out and we’ve got a couple of customers’ cars we keep up and then we do the maintenance to ours and get ready for the weekend. When you have a race car you never run out of things to do. Last year you ran 11 races, winning one and taking home nine top tens. That’s a pretty impressive run. Not as impressive as I think it should have been. When you go out there, you go out to win. We lost two features with a fuel pressure problem, which was a disappointment. But we usually try to get up to the front. As you’ve watched dirt modifieds evolve over the years, what transformation do you see as having had the biggest impact? Wow, I’ll tell you what. Being that I started with my flat head Ford, which was a Sears-Roebuck rebuilt motor, I have seen quite a change in the industry. I think the biggest change is what I call a store built car. Everyone can buy a car completely done now. When we started racing we all built our own stuff. You’d go to the junkyard and get a frame. So the store built cars and the parts that you can buy now. That’s got to be the biggest change there was. Does that even the playing field, or does it make it more difficult? It does make it a little more difficult. You know, they have 90-some cars here tonight, but the trouble is you have 90 good cars. A good friend of mine told me, “If I go to a new track and they’ve got more than 50 cars, I’m at the wrong track.” So tonight I think I’m at the wrong track. Do you have any advice for young drivers that want to become professional race car drivers? I’m one of the very lucky ones who grew up with racing. My dad raced, and it was just something that we did. My brother and I both raced. So it’s very hard for me to tell someone how they should get involved in racing. When I was in diapers I was involved in racing. Starting out you can’t start at the top and work your way down; you’ve got to start at the bottom and work your way up. I do recommend learning to drive on dirt. I think that gives you a more natural feel of a car if you start on dirt. I’ve tried helping guys out before, and it’s easier to make a dirt driver an asphalt driver than it is to have an asphalt driver become a dirt driver. What are your plans for this year? Not all the tracks have put out their schedules yet, but I imagine I’ll be running here at Volusia and over at Bubba Raceway Park and some of the specials at East Bay Raceway. Then I want to go down to Hendry County a couple times. I got a request to come back up to Orange County Fair Speedway. They’ve got a special 20-lap race up there for the past champions. I might sneak up there and run that. David’s got a car lined up, so we want to go up there and have a little fun. Meanwhile, Buzzie will continue his DIRTcar Nationals run through next Monday at Volusia Speedway Park. The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars will join the DIRTcar UMP Modifieds through Sunday, after which the DIRTcar Late Models will share the field with them. On Tuesday, February 12, Buzzie's old Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modifieds will take the stage at Volusia Speedway Park for five nights, joined for the last four by the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Models. Rain wins first Big Gator Championship qualifier night for DIRTcar UMP Modifieds DELEON SPRINGS, FL — Feb. 9, 2019 — The DIRTcar UMP Modifieds were to race in the first of two Big Gator Championship Qualifier Nights on Saturday, February 9 at Volusia Speedway Park. It was to be Night #5 of the 48th annual DIRTcar Nationals for the Ironmen of the DIRTcar Nationals. Half of the 104 teams that had competed in the DIRTcar Nationals through the first four nights got through their Heat Races with threatening skies all around the half-mile high-banked dirt oval in DeLeon Springs, FL. As post-race ceremonies were happening on the front stretch at the conclusion of the World of Outlaw NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series Feature, Mother Nature made her second appearance of the night. Unfortunately, enough moisture had fallen and continued to drench the facility, forcing DIRTcar Racing & DIRTcar Nationals Officials to postpone the two Last Chance Showdowns and Feature for the DIRTcar UMP Modifieds to Monday, February 11. Prior to, and in between rain delays, Lucas Lee scored his first Fast Qualifier award of the week with an 18.358 = 98.050mph, and he won his Heat Race. Ryan Fowler, Brandon Green and David Stremme picked up the other Heat Race triumphs. In the Redraw of the Heat Race winners, Stremme and Lee drew the front row, with Fowler and Green drawing the third and fourth spots. The second half of the field, those who did not participate on Saturday night, will take over for the second (now first) Big Gator Championship Qualifier Night on Sunday, February 10. The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series will race in their final night at Volusia also on Sunday to complete Sprint Car Week and crown the first 2019 Big Gator Champion. Then on Monday, February 11, the show will start with the conclusion of Saturday’s program for the DIRTcar UMP Modifieds — two Last Chance Showdowns and a 20-Lap Feature. Once those are over, DIRTcar Nationals Late Model Week begins at Volusia with the first of two nights of action for the DIRTcar Super Late Models. Taylor Cook made the most of his first appearance of the week by passing three-time defending DIRTcar Nationals Champion Nick Hoffman on the white flag lap to secure his first career feature win in the DIRTcar Nationals. “I knew we had a really good car, and I knew that I could hold my own line through the traffic and try to make something happen. Plus, I had the safe benefit of being behind him (Hoffman) to see what he was doing, where he was going. I knew that if it played out just right, we’d win this thing,” an emotional Cook stated in Victory Lane after climbing from his #21 High Octane Wraps & Apparel / Team Harris Auto Racing machine. “I can’t thank my family enough for this. We worked our butts off all winter. To come out on our first night of the new season and win the biggest race of my career, to win this in front of a field of cars like this, when someone like Nick finishes second, this is truly special,” the 25-year-old offered. Perennial contenders, David Stremme and Kyle Strickler started on the front row of the massive 28-car field, and once Dave Farney’s green flag flew, the battle commenced immediately between the two rivals. It didn’t take long for something to happen; on lap two, the two battlers collided sending both up into the turn one wall. Opening night feature winner Michael Long, who was right behind the two combatants, had nowhere to go and slammed into both drivers. All three were done for the night. This gave the lead to Hoffman, who tried to immediately pull away from the rest of the field. Brian Ruhlman, who started fourth, and Cook, who started seventh, worked their way up to the second and third spots and began chasing down the race leader, Hoffman. With five laps to go, Cook, originally from Sylvania, OH and now calling Stanley, NC home, maneuvered his way by Ruhlman and set his sights on Hoffman for the race lead. With three laps to go, Cook pulled up to Hoffman and in the midst of traffic, an epic battle ensured. As the white flag flew, Cook dove underneath Hoffman to take the lead, but Hoffman wasn’t giving up and charged back at Cook. With the checkered flag in the air, Cook was able to put just enough real estate between himself and Hoffman to secure his first career DIRTcar Nationals feature win. Hoffman settled for second for the second night in a row after starting fifth, taking over the DIRTcar Nationals points lead. Ruhlman finished off the podium finishers in third as Will Krup and Zeke McKenzie completed the top five. RC Whitwell finished sixth after starting 14th, while Jason Beaulieu was seventh. Lucas Lee, Curt Spalding and Allen Weisser, from 16th, finished off the final top 10. Strickler was the fastest of 95 DIRTcar UMP Modifieds on hand with a lap measured at an 18.437 = 97.630mph and won his heat race. Krup, McKenzie, Ruhlman, Cook, Long, Strickler, Hoffman and Stremme also scored heat race triumphs while Johnny Broking, Will Long, Garret Stewart and Ryan Thomas each bagged Last Chance Showdown checkered flags. The 48th annual DIRTcar Nationals continues for the DIRTcar UMP Modifieds for the third of seven straight nights (10 Features total) on Thursday, February 7. Davenport, Arnold, Harrison & Hawkins Win on Quadruple Features Night at Fairbury American Legion Speedway Eighth annual Summit Modified Nationals wraps up Saturday, July 28 with a $5,000 payday & Series title on the line FAIRBURY, IL — July 27, 2018 — The Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals have had some time off since their last race back on July 14 at Oakshade Raceway (OH). With a well-deserved 13-day break complete after competing in 23 events during the months of June and July, the cars and stars of the DIRTcar Modified world were back in action as part of the 29th annual Prairie Dirt Classic presented by Bank of Pontiac at Fairbury American Legion Speedway (FALS). Friday, July 27 was “Quadruple Feature Night” as four Features set the field for Saturday’s headliner paying $5,000 to win. Tait Davenport, Chris Arnold, Mike Harrison and Jacob Hawkins walked away with the victories. A whopping 61 teams on the property were split into four Qualifier Features based on qualifying times with the top four finishers in each race transferring to the 40-lap main event on Saturday, July 28 and the top two going to the redraw on Saturday for their starting positions in first four rows of the main event. The four Features were also the 16-19th races in Summit Modifieds history at Fairbury, the most all-time in the eight-year history of the tour with the milestone 20th event scheduled for the following night. In the Summit Racing Equipment Qualifier Feature #1, Tait Davenport and Steve Stevenson led the field to the green flag, with Davenport showing the way early in the race. The Benton, KY driver made no mistake the entire event and scored his second straight Friday PDC Quad Feature win in two years. Derek Losh finished second to earn a spot in the Redraw, while Lucas Lee and David Shain completed the transfer positions. Former two-time Track Champion Jeff Ledford completed the top five. Allen Weisser and Chris Arnold started on the front row of the Wehr’s Machine & Racing Qualifier Feature #2, with Arnold edging by Weisser heading into the first corner to take the early lead. Arnold, who made the trip from Matoaca, VA, started his weekend off right by leading all 20 laps to win his first career Summit Modified Nationals Feature. Weisser finished second to grab the second Redraw spot, while current FALS points leader, McKay Wenger, and 2017 Gateway Dirt Nationals winner, Ray Bollinger, also transferred into the main event. Steven Brooks finished on the outside looking into a transfer spot and rounding out the top five. Danny Schwartz and five-time and defending Series Champion Mike Harrison led the field to the start of the Allgaier Racing Shocks Qualifier Feature #3. Harrison, the six-time and defending DIRTcar Modified National Champion, grabbed the point from the get-go, and the Highland, IL standout collected his 43rd career Summit Modified Nationals Feature win and seventh of the 2018 racing season. Schwartz was second and got the second Redraw position, while Mark Lamont and Kyle Strickler were the remaining transfer cars. Current Summit Modified Nationals points leader Mike McKinney finished fifth and will have to come through one of the Last Chance Races on Saturday. The final race of the night for the DIRTcar Modifieds was the Deke Trucking Qualifier Feature #4 with Jacob Hawkins and Matt Cooper in the front row. Hawkins shot out to the lead as soon as the green flag came out, and the Fairmont, WV driver, who won the DIRTcar Modifieds portion of the Eldora Dirt Derby at Eldora Speedway (OH) just nine days ago, led all 20 laps to score his first career Summit Modified Nationals Feature victory. Logan Moody was second and earned the final Redraw position. Dan Rork and 2012 Series Champion Kenny Wallace were the final transfer cars. Wallace and fifth place finisher Brent Weaver collided coming out of turn four for the checkered flag with Wallace coming out on top and Weaver settling for fifth. Coming into the weekend, McKinney led Harrison by just four points in the chase for the 2018 Summit Modified Nationals Championship. After Friday night’s action, McKinney and Harrison are tied for the points lead, and Harrison, the all-time career wins leader in the eight-year history of the Summit Modified Nationals, must win on Saturday to clinch a sixth title. If he does not win the Feature, McKinney will clinch his first career Summit Modified Nationals title. Saturday, July 28 will conclude the 2018 racing season for the Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals, beginning with the Redraw for the top two finishers from the Qualifier Features the previous night. Three Last Chance Showdowns will then take the top two out of each and lock them into the Feature. Four Summit Modified Nationals Provisionals will complete the 26-car field. Davenport Finally Captures First Gator Trophy at DIRTcar Nationals BARBERVILLE, FL– Feb. 12, 2018– Jonathan Davenport dominated the first night of Late Model competition at the 47th annual DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park by leading flag-to-flag for all 30 laps of the feature event. Davenport smiled from ear-to-ear holding his first ever Gator trophy in Victory Lane at the historic half-mile. “You don’t know how much this gator [trophy] means to me,” said Davenport. “I’ve been wanting one of these things for so long. We’ve been close a few times but we’ve never got it done. This one here is definitely for my crew. We stayed up all night last night. We put a new body on this thing. We changed motors. We went all through the car. It was raining on us and we were soaking wet… Winning here is unbelievable. It sure is.” Davenport, of Blairsville, GA, started on the pole for the event and never looked back. Despite two cautions, the driver of the No.49 owned by Lance Landers was never seriously challenged for the lead spot. Chris Madden of Gray Court, SC was the only driver to reach the bumper of Davenport throughout the race. “It rubbered up so catching somebody and passing them is a different thing to do here,” said Madden. “We had a good car once we went low in one and two but I didn’t even realize it until two [laps] to go so I dove down there and I was able to carry some speed off the corner there. “So maybe I should’ve made the charge down there a little earlier and tried to move around a little more sooner than I did,” Madden continued. “But overall, for the first night out with this team, with a new car from Barry [Wright] and a new power plant from Clements. All and all I think we’ve done a good job.” Clanton and Madden swapped for second and third once throughout the race but the Georgia Bulldog was only able to hold on to the spot for two laps before the No. 44 Barry Wright House Car reclaimed the position for the remainder of the race. “We are just glad to be here in sunny Florida as cold as it has been back at the house, it feels good to get down here. Mother Nature laid off tonight and gave us the night to race. Hopefully she is calmer the rest of the week and we can race five more nights. It is consistency here that matters so hopefully we get back in Victory Lane and keep it up front.” The DIRTcar Late Models return to the track on February 13 for their second and final night of competition during the 12-day short track event before the World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series takes center stage on Feb. 14-17. The entire Modified event took place before the Late Models hit the track for hot laps because of the threat of rain. Twice as Nice(ly): Tyler Nicely Locks into Gator Championship with Saturday’s Victory BARBERVILLE, FL — Feb. 10, 2018 — The first of two Gator Qualifying Nights for the DIRTcar UMP Modifieds was on Saturday, February 10th. The 79 teams that have appeared at least once during the 47thAnnual DIRTcar Nationals were split up into two groups with half the field racing on the 10th, while the other half get the day off before returning to the track on Sunday, February 11th. In the first of two Big Gator Qualifying Nights to set the field for Monday’s $5,000-to-win finale, Tyler Nicely would go to victory lane and guaranteeing himself a shot at the Big Gator on Monday after scoring his second Gator in two nights “Once Kyle (Strickler) and I got away from everybody, I figured I was going to have to hold him off, but thought, as long as I’m able to hit my marks each lap, we’d be alright,” Offered the 23-year-old from Owensboro, KY who would also record his third career feature win at Volusia Speedway Park during the DIRTcar Nationals to move him into a five-way tie for eighth all-time in career wins with Craig Thatcher, Dave Hess Jr., Clint Bowyer and Strickler. “Last night felt good, but this one feels really good, to beat the caliber of cars that are here.” The driver of his #25 Elite Chassis ride ended. Todd Neiheiser and Mike McKinney brought the 24-car field to Chief Starter, Dave Farney’s green flag and it would be McKinney leading the opening lap. Neiheiser would regroup though and charged back out front on the next lap and brought Tyler Nicely and Kyle Strickler, both Quad-15s Feature winners from the night before, with him and the battle was on for the lead. On lap eight, Nicely and Strickler both slipper passed Neiheiser and pulled away from the rest of the pack. Nicely and Strickler put on a battle of their own while leaving the rest of the field to fend for themselves. As the laps continued to click off, Nicely slowly but surely pulled away from Strickler and started putting lapped traffic between himself and his fellow Gator Feature winner from the night before. In the end, Nicely crossed the stripe first to score the Feature win and more importantly, a guaranteed starting spot in Monday’s $5,000 to win Big Gator finale. Strickler settled for second for his fifth consecutive top five finish in five starts during the DIRTcar Nationals while Michael Long continues to impress with his best finish of the week in third. Two-time NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Champion, Matt Crafton recorded his best finish of the week in fourth as night number one winner, David Stremme recovered from an incident on lap nine to wrap up the top five. McKinney slipped to sixth while Ryan Ayers, Ray Bollinger, Chase Collins and Ricky Arms completed the top 10 and are guaranteed in Monday’s Big Gator Championship race. Hoffman Repeats on Night Three of the 47th Annual DIRTcar Nationals DIRTcar UMP Modifieds continue ironman stretch of races at Volusia Speedway Park BARBERVILLE, FL - Feb. 8, 2018 - The 47th annual DIRTcar Nationals continued on with night number three for the DIRTcar UMP Modifieds at Volusia Speedway Park (FL). With 70 cars on hand, every position, every time the cars are on the track, is of the utmost importance. That was certainly the case on Thursday, February 9th in the final regular night of competition before the specials portion of the schedule for the Modifieds kicks in. The Thursday night 20-Lap Feature would see the first two nights' winners, David Stremme and Nick Hoffman tied in Gator Points coming into the night. When the checkered flag flew, it's now Hoffman standing alone on top of the points after winning his second Feature in a row. "It doesn't hurt to start up front that's for sure. I'm not a huge fan of it, but it worked out tonight." Smiled the 25-year-old originally from Belleville, IL after climbing from his #2 Fox Shocks / Elite Chassis ride. "Our program is really good right now. It all comes down to maintenance and we'll just keep doing what we've been doing for the past two days. A bunch of seconds and now two wins in a row. Hoffman and Tyler Nicely were scheduled to start on the front row, but Nicely didn't answer the call for the start. So that moved up Mike McKinney to the outside of the front row. On the start, it was Hoffman who shot out to the early lead as the rest of the field jockeyed for position behind him. The battles between second through fifth was intense before Kyle Strickler finally emerged from the war, into second and set his sights on Hoffman, who had built up a big lead. As hard as Strickler ran to try and catch the race long leader, Hoffman was able to put plenty of real estate and lapped cars between the two. Strickler was able to finally get through the traffic and tried to track down Hoffman late in the race, but the lead was too insurmountable as Hoffman took the checkered flag first by just over a second to score his second straight win and 13th DIRTcar Nationals victory of his career in a caution free event. Strickler advanced one position from his finishes the first two nights and secured the runner-up spot ahead of McKinney who scored his highest finish of the week. NASCAR Xfinity Series star, Justin Allgaier and former NASCAR veteran, Kenny Wallace completed the top five. Allen Weisser finished sixth for his best finish of the DIRTcar Nationals and second top 10 while night number one winner, David Stremme was seventh. Zeke McKenzie grabbed eighth as Will Krup finished ninth for the second straight night and Brian Ruhlman posted his best finish of the week and finished off the top 10. Hoffman Takes Night Two of the 47th Annual DIRTcar Nationals Two-time defending DIRTcar UMP Modifieds DIRTcar Nationals Champion scores career win #12 BARBERVILLE, FL - Feb. 7, 2018 - The second of seven nights of DIRTcar UMP Modified racing, part of the 47th Annual DIRTcar Nationals, was at Volusia Speedway Park (FL) on Wednesday, February 7th. A total of 71 teams, up four from opening night, from across North America, were on the property and continued their quest for the coveted Big Gator which will be handed out on Monday, February 12th. After the first two nights of highly regarded competition, the battle for the coveted title will go down to the very last laps in a few days if the first two races were any indication. Two-time defending DIRTcar Nationals Champion, Nick Hoffman passed night one winner, David Stremme seven laps in and the driver who calls Mooresville, NC home, pulled away to his 12th career DIRTcar Nationals Feature victory. "Second place sucks, we were talking about it last night and today. We finished second in the last two races (at North Florida Speedway) before coming here. We finished second last night. So, we made some changes and they paid off for us tonight." The 25-year-old driver originally from Belleville, IL remarked in victory lane. "The track conditions were definitely in our favor tonight. The track is much different when the Sprint Cars race on it. Hats off to the track for giving us a nice surface to race on. Hopefully we can come back tomorrow and do this again." He added. Michael Long and Jamie Carter brought the massive 28-car field to the green flag and it was Long grabbing the early advantage. His lead was short-lived however as Stremme motored by on the outside from his third starting spot to take over the lead. He brought Hoffman with him and the battle was on for the top spot. On lap seven Hoffman drove around the outside of Stremme to take over the top spot and his No. 2 Elite Chassis machine started to pull away from Stremme and the rest of the pack. Hoffman would maintain the lead the rest of the way and gave himself some breathing room by getting through traffic at a rapid rate. This left the traffic in Stremme's way and all the while. Hoffman kept putting plenty of real estate between himself and the rest of the field en route to his 12th career DIRTcar Nationals win, the most all-time at Volusia Speedway Park Stremme settled for second ahead of Kyle Strickler who finished third for the second straight night as Long slipped back to fourth ahead of Tyler Nicely who finished off the top five. Taylor Cook, in his first appearance of the DIRTcar Nationals, finished sixth after starting in 18th as Garrett Stewart, Ricky Arms, Will Krup from 20th and Allen Weisser would complete the top 10. Stremme Strong In DIRTcar Nationals Opener Second career win in DIRTcar UMP Modifieds at Volusia Speedway Park BARBERVILLE, FL - Feb. 6, 2018 - The premier drivers and teams within the DIRTcar UMP Modified ranks from across North America converged to Volusia Speedway Park (FL) for night number one of the 47th Annual DIRTcar Nationals. A stellar field of 65 teams made their way to the Sunshine State to compete in the first of seven straight nights of competition for the open-wheeled weekly warriors. David Stremme, originally from South Bend, IN and now calls Mooresville, NC home, shot out to the lead on the opening lap from his third starting spot and held off two-time defending DIRTcar Nationals Champion, Nick Hoffman to score his second career Gator. "We were pretty good tonight, but I feel like we still have a lot of work to do. We're just ok and we know that. Its only night one," Offered the 40-year-old owner of Lethal Chassis after his victory. "Things will change quite a bit the rest of the week and the competition here is pretty strong. Real happy though, have to thank all the sponsors. Definitely Penske Racing Shocks. This is the first race with them on the car, so we're pretty proud of that." He added. The first Feature of the DIRTcar Nationals would see NASCAR Xfinity Series star, Justin Allgaier and Hoffman lead the mammoth 28-car field to chief starter, Dave Farney's green flag to begin their 20-lap Feature. Stremme, who started on the inside of the third row, quickly shot around the front row and grabbed the early advantage while the rest of the field jockeyed for position. Hoffman fell back to as far as fifth, before regrouping and picking off cars one by one until he got back up to second. As the laps clicked off, Hoffman closed the gap on Stremme and caught a break when the caution flag flew with just a single lap to go. That set up a one-lap shootout between Stremme and Hoffman and on the restart, Stremme got the jump on both Hoffman and Allgaier, who was running in the third spot. Stremme would get away from both and cross the stripe first en route to his first DIRTcar Nationals Feature win since the 2015 season and second of his career. Hoffman settled for second as Kyle Strickler, who won one of the three Last Chance Showdowns to get into the show, started 19th and completed the podium finishers. Chase Collins, who started 13th, finished fourth as Zeke McKenzie, who started 11th, finished off the top five. NASCAR Camping World Trucks Series regular, Justin Haley was sixth after starting 25th while Kenny Wallace, Michael Long, K.C. Burdette and Allgaier, who faded on the last restart, were the top 10. Kyle Strickler penalized by DIRTcar Racing for Charlotte altercation CONCORD, NC — DIRTcar Racing has handed down penalties to Kyle Strickler, driver of the No. 8 DIRTcar UMP Modified, following an on-track altercation during the OneDirt World Short Track Championship on Oct. 28. Kyle Strickler was not happy with David Stremme after the two crashed while racing for the lead during the OneDirt World Short Track Championship at The Dirt Track at Charlotte. (CSP/Chris Seelman photo) Strickler was penalized for violating sections 2.2 (conduct) and 11.1-R (penalties and fine schedules) of the DIRTcar Racing Rulebook. The incident in question took place during the DIRTcar UMP Modified All Star Invitational feature on the final night of the OneDirt World Short Track Championship, when Strickler and David Stremme made contact with one another while racing for the lead exiting turn two. As a result of the contact, both drivers ended up against the outside wall on the backstretch, where Strickler got out of his car, quickly approached Stremme and started throwing punches before being pulled away from Stremme’s machine. Strickler has been fined $200 and placed on probation for the entire 2018 season as a result of the altercation. Per the DIRTcar Racing rulebook, members in good standing have the right to appeal the decision to the World Racing Group Appeals Commission.

The OneDirt World Short Track Championship, a three-day event, puts the best short track racers in the country on center stage.
