  1. 2016 DIRTcar Late Model Summer Nationals and DIRTcar Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals Schedule Revealed - Tours return during the summer of 2016 for two of the most challenging schedules in all of motorsports INDIANAPOLIS – Dec. 10, 2015 – DIRTcar Racing announced today at the Performance Racing Industry show the schedule for the 2016 DIRTcar Late Model Summer Nationals and DIRTcar Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals. Annually one of the most challenging schedules in all of motorsports, the Summer Nationals tour kicks off at Brownstown (Indiana) Speedway on June 15. For five weeks, the tour takes some of the best late model drivers in the country and pits them against each other at 28 races in Iowa, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Missouri, Michigan and Ohio. Friday and Saturday events throughout the tour pay $10,000-to-win, except the opening night at Cedar Lake Speedway which pays $5,000-to-win. The 2016 Summer Nationals champion will be decided at Oakshade Speedway in Wauseon, Ohio on July 15 and 16. Competitors who managed to make it through the tour will battle it out for bragging rights and a $25,000 prize. “This season marks one of the tightest tour schedules to date for the Summer Nationals,” said DIRTcar UMP Director Sam Driggers. “We continue to look for ways to improve the racing experience for fans and competitors alike and build upon this great racing tradition.” This season, the Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals Tour covers 28 races in five states across eight weeks. The tour kicks off at the Terre Haute (Indiana) Action Track on June 12 and then heads to tracks in Illinois and Tennessee through the opening weeks. The tour meets up with the Summer Nationals late models on June 15 at Brownstown Speedway. The 2016 Summit Modified Nationals again joins the World of Outlaws Late Model Series for the Prairie Dirt Classic at Fairbury (Illinois) American Legion Speedway on July 29 and 30 to wrap up the 2016 tour. “Every year the Modified Nationals gets bigger and better,” Driggers said. “Even though both it and the Summer Nationals are still nearly seven months away from kicking off, we can’t wait to get the racing tours underway.” Follow the Summer Nationals and Summit Modified Nationals on Twitter at http://www.Twitter.com/SummerNationals or on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/SummerNationals. 2. DIRTcar Racing Pro Sprint Rules Released - Plymouth Speedway first sanctioned track to participate CONCORD, N.C. - Oct. 16, 2015 - Plymouth (Ind.) Speedway has become the first DIRTcar-sanctioned race track to include the recently released DIRTcar Pro Sprint as a weekly division. Ed Kennedy, owner of the 3/8-mile dirt oval, is excited with the prospects: "The developers of this package used our track numerous times, and I have been impressed every time it hits the track. The concept is perfect for the weekly and hobby racer. This division will be a great addition to our weekly lineup." Plans include nine regional divisions and a National Champion who will be recognized at the World of Outlaws Sprint Series Banquet. Regions and the number of races to qualify will be released in March 2016. "These cars are plenty fast and will race really well," said weekly participant Garret Saunders, who has tested the sprint cars. "Fans are going to love them." Kemp, a veteran motorsports promoter, has developed a strict set of specifications that includes mandatory specified parts based around the Chevy Performance 602 sealed engine. "With the rules now in publication, the fun work will begin working with tracks, like Plymouth Speedway, and the numerous potential participants," Kemp said. "I have taken calls from nearly every state with great interest." The rules for the inaugural season are available at http://www.dirtcarump.com/category/divisions/pro-sprint or can be received via emailed by contacting Larry Kemp at lkemp@dirtcar.com. The specifications will become part of the DIRTcar Racing Rulebook covering weekly racing throughout the United States.
  3. DIRTcar Racing Introduces Pro Sprint Division With Chevrolet Performance Engine to Create New Entry-Level Winged Sprint Car Class CONCORD, N.C. - Sept. 25, 2015 - Two years of development have led to the new DIRTcar Pro Sprint Car division, an entry-level sprint car class for weekly tracks spearheaded by motorsports veteran Larry Kemp. Identical in appearance to a World of Outlaws winged sprint car, the Pro Sprint specifies a number of components based around the Chevrolet Performance 602 sealed engine. "Tracks are excited to add an economical winged sprint car division to their schedules," Kemp said. "Promoters may run this class weekly or occasionally and it gives fans a chance to experience one of the most exciting dirt racing divisions at their local track. The key is using specified parts from one supplier for the base Chevrolet Performance 602 engine, plus specifying carburetor, shocks, tires, ignition and adaptation parts that will make this division easy entry for the competitor." Additional mandated parts installed by the exclusive supplier, Pace Performance, include Crate Innovations Crank Balancing Hub and Yoke Assembly, Crate Innovations Carb Spacer and linkage, MSD #8728 Soft Touch DIRTcar-branded Rev Control with a 6,200 RPM chip, Holley 750 CFM Classic HP methanol Carburetor, Chevrolet Performance HEI distributer and ignition, Schoenfeld Headers, Hoosier Racing Tires, and DIRTcar approved PS shocks. Pace Performance will also have complete "plug-and-play" packages for the program. "DIRTcar is always working with tracks and promoters to build the weekly program," DIRTcar CEO Brian Carter said. "The time has come for the addition of an entry-level winged sprint car that people can afford to race weekly, and it will blend well into the current DIRTcar program. Working with Larry, strict control of the rules, a ceiling on purse awards and regional and national recognition will make this division an immediate success. The Chevrolet Performance engine, combined with a smaller and harder Hoosier tire package, will work well for this class and we expect it to provide an introduction to winged sprint cars to build the future stars of the World of Outlaws." Competition will focus as a weekly DIRTcar-sanctioned division with North America divided into nine regions. Each region will accumulate points with National standings maintained. The National Champion will receive recognition at the World of Outlaws National Banquet. Regions and participating tracks will be announced in spring 2016. A unique feature will be an optional 5-foot-wide-by-4-foot-long wing that will retain the existing dimensions for the sideboards and traditional sprint car appearance, but take away a significant amount of downforce and need for horsepower. Randy Hannagan, a World of Outlaws 410 participant, was one of the primary test drivers and confirmed the race-ability of the combination. "This combination of the traditional winged sprint car and the Chevrolet Performance 602 with the specified parts make the perfect weekly entry division into winged sprint cars," Hannagan said. "The power created is more than plenty and I see this car becoming very popular." Pace Performance is the exclusive supplier of the base engine performing the adaptations to a new engine supplied by Pace or the customer. An approved up fitter will install additional mandatory and approved components. A three-seal program, with bar code recognition, that will access to the database will be implemented. With a smart phone, anyone can verify the history of the seal and engine. "We believe this new division will help to increase interest in sprint car racing while also giving competitors who feel they've been priced out of sprint car racing a chance to get started in the division," Pace's Matt Fullerton said. "This program, with DIRTcar's support, will make sprint car racing affordable at more tracks across the country." The division will also use the DIRTcar "Approved" shock program where the shock manufacturer installs a decal seal indicating it meets the shock program. Currently, Bilstein, Genesis, Pro, FOX and AFCO have approved products. For further information, contact Larry Kemp at 317-416-6854, lkemp@dirtcar.com or larrykemp1959@yahoo.com. 4. Nicely Earns Breakthrough Victory at Fairbury in DIRTcar Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals Season Finale FAIRBURY, Ill. - July 25, 2015 - Tyler Nicely powered to victory in a flawless feature performance on Saturday at Fairbury American Legion Speedway to win the final night of the DIRTcar Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals and secure second place in the championship. Nicely, of Owensboro, Ky., was smooth in every corner on the quarter-mile dirt oval while the field behind him was two- and three-wide trying to run him down in the 30-lap, $2,000-to-win season finale. The victory was Nicely's first win of the 2015 tour, finally putting him over the top after he turned in four second-place finishes during the month-long season that ran primarily in conjunction with the DIRTcar Summer Nationals. "I just kept hitting my marks right around the bottom so nobody could sneak underneath me," Nicely said. "I knew if I didn't make any mistakes I had a good enough hot rod. It's huge, I've been wanting to win in Illinois, and Fairbury is the best track in America in my opinion. It's awesome, and the fans make it even better. You just feel welcome here." There were 47 DIRTcar UMP Modifieds in competition at Fairbury, which also ran the World of Outlaws Late Model Series Prairie Dirt Classic, for a combined total of 106 cars in the pits on Saturday night. The event was delayed about an hour by rain that fell during the Last Chance Showdown. Heat race winners included Lance Dehm, Curt Spaulding, Brandon Roberts and Tyler Nicely. Mike Harrison earned the overall DIRTcar Summit Racing Equipment Modified championship with nine victories in 13 starts. Unfortunately in Saturday night's finale, Harrison started 15th and was on the move when he was involved in a scary-looking crash on the frontstretch, leaving him with a 23rd-place finish. Fairbury had been one of only three tracks where Harrison raced on this year's tour but didn't win, until he dominated on Friday to lead all 30 laps and capture the $2,000 checkered flag on a night when he was honored for winning the series crown. "It's never easy," said Harrison, of Highland, Ill. "I just try to get out there and be as smooth as I can and keep the car as straight as I can. I try to focus on my laps and my line and not worry about anybody else." There were two cautions during the main event. Following the second restart, Jeff Curl hooked up his DIRTcar UMP Modified and charged through the field to finish second. Tyler Nicely, who is trying to hold onto second overall in the championship, finished third with David Stremme and Ray Bollinger rounding out the top five. 8. Moyer Jr. Wins DIRTcar Summer Nationals Finale at Oakshade, Pierce Youngest Champion in Series History WAUSEON, Ohio - July 11, 2015 - Billy Moyer Jr. needed a victory on Saturday night at Oakshade Raceway to have any chance of winning the DIRTcar Summer Nationals championship, so in the first half a lap he charged through the front row from his fourth-starting position and pulled away to win. The 18-year-old Bobby Pierce, though, became the youngest champion in the history of the series by finishing fifth, edging Moyer for the crown by a mere 10 points. Both Pierce and Moyer Jr. are the sons of former DIRTcar Summer Nationals champions, with Pierce and his father, Bob, now the only father-son combo to claim the title. Pierce also joins a prestigious group of racers who have won the DIRTcar Late Model national championship (2014) as well as a DIRTcar Summer Nationals championship. "We tried really hard and we had a good hot rod tonight," said Moyer Jr., of Batesville, Ark., after his $10,000 victory. "Ten points shy, it is what it is. Bobby did a good job and we're just glad to be winning races and running up front. People at least know we're there … it's no fun running seventh and 10th every night and we've been there too. So we're just glad to be up front. "I hate to even think about the points, but you know, you have to. It pays a lot of money. I want my name on that deal. But we're gonna get it on there … we're gonna work really hard and come back and hopefully do it again next year if all my support and everything stays the same. It sucks to get beat, but man, to win $10,000 here in Ohio with a huge crowd, I'm happy." Pierce started 12th and had to race forward to ensure he would lay claim to the championship, worth $25,000. "It's been a long month of racing, even with the rainouts it's still been 30 days up and down the road," said Pierce, of Oakwood, Ill. "It takes a toll on you, on your equipment. Now that it's over it's just kind of like a big weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I knew when I saw Jr. get the lead and I was still back in 10th that I had to get up on the wheel. I had the math figured in my head that I had to get to a certain spot to win. Once I started picking cars off I got more comfortable. Congrats to Billy, he did everything he could do to try to win the points." Moyer bested a field of 50 cars and survived 60 laps with two restarts to come ever so close to the title. Casey Noonan, Jason Feger, Dona Marcouiller and Pierce rounded out the top five. 9. Rain-Saturated Grounds Force Officials to Cancel Macon Speedway’s DIRTcar Summer Nationals and DIRTcar Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals Events MACON, Ill. - July 9, 2015 - A rainy week in downstate Illinois has led to saturated grounds at Macon Speedway, forcing track and series officials to cancel tonight's DIRTcar Summer Nationals and DIRTcar Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals events. Two nights now remain for the DIRTcar Summer Nationals tour -- Farmer City (Ill.) Speedway on Friday and Oakshade Raceway in Wauseon, Ohio, on Saturday. In addition to Farmer City and Oakshade, the DIRTcar Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals includes two $2,000-to-win events, July 24-25, at Fairbury American Legion Speedway during the World of Outlaws Late Model Series' Prairie Dirt Classic weekend. 10. Feger Passes Moyer at Highland Speedway, Earns Third DIRTcar Summer Nationals Victory of the Season HIGHLAND, Ill. - July 4, 2015 - Jason Feger wore out the high side on Saturday night at Highland Speedway to pass Billy Moyer for his tour-leading third DIRTcar Summer Nationals victory of the season. Feger, of Bloomington, Ill., led the opening lap before Moyer charged from fourth to swipe the top spot. Feger kept the pressure on Moyer, the tour's all-time leading winner, and reclaimed the lead on lap 24, then pulled away in traffic over the final 26 circuits to earn the $10,000 checkered flag. "He's (Moyer) arguably the best one ever," said Feger, the 2010 DIRTcar Summer Nationals champion who now has 14 series wins in his career. "He's a great, clean racer. So it was good to race with him … you know you're going to put on a good show. The leg still shakes a little bit on that gas pedal when I pass him. It feels great any time you can beat him. That's saying a lot." Moyer finished second with Brian Shirley, Michael Kloos and Ryan Unzicker rounding out the top five. In the championship battle, points leader Bobby Pierce started 19th and powered his way to a 7th-place finish, one spot behind Billy Moyer Jr., who is second in points. The DIRTcar Summer Nationals tour races to Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind., on Sunday and then Monday takes another shot at Lincoln (Ill.) Speedway after it was rained out on June 28. 11. Harrison Charges to Hometown Win at Highland for Sixth DIRTcar Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals Victory HIGHLAND, Ill. - July 4, 2015 - Mike Harrison was dialed in on the bottom Saturday night at Highland Speedway as he slid inside of leader Brian Shaw on the third lap, held on through two restarts and powered to his sixth victory of the 2015 DIRTcar Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals tour. Harrison, of Highland, Ill., made no mistakes during the 25-lap main event, hitting his marks in every corner as he showed why he's the three-time and defending series champion who appears to be on his way to a fourth crown in five years after taking another $1,000 victory. "Summit stepped up to do this deal for us modified guys and it's been a blast chasing this series around," said Harrison, who farms during the day. "It's a lot of fun going to all the tracks. Last year Brownstown and here kind of evaded me, I think I ran second both nights, so it's good to come to home turf and win in front of the hometown crowd." Runner-up Tyler Deibert held off Brian Bielong, who was making the top side of Highland work to his advantage as he kept surging toward the front. Ray Bollinger and Robbie Eilers rounded out the top five. Click here to watch highlights from Saturday night's race. DIRTcar Summer Nationals Top 12 Championship Standings
  23. Billy Moyer Jr. Pockets $10,000 for DIRTcar Summer Nationals Victory at Iowa's Farley Speedway FARLEY, Iowa - June 17, 2015 - Billy Moyer Jr. dominated the DIRTcar Summer Nationals event on Wednesday night at Farley Speedway, leading all 50 laps and collecting $10,000 for the effort. Moyer Jr., of Batesville, Ark., started the feature alongside polesitter Bobby Pierce. Pierce and Moyer Jr. are 1-2 in the DIRTcar Summer Nationals championship standings, but on Wednesday night it was Moyer Jr. who surged to the lead on the first lap and survived four restarts to claim his first victory of the 2015 tour. Chris Simpson charged from sixth to finish second with Pierce, Shannon Babb and Chad Simpson rounding out the top five. With Pierce winning Tuesday at Jacksonville Speedway and Moyer Jr. getting into the win column on Wednesday night, the championship battle has taken an interesting turn. Pierce's father, Bob, is a two-time DIRTcar Summer Nationals champion (1992 & 1995) while Moyer Jr.'s legendary father, Billy, is a six-time DIRTcar Summer Nationals champ (1993, 1994, 1996, 1999, 2001 and 2003). Should either of them win the crown, they would become the first championship-winning father-son combo in series history. "I'm not going to lie, I want my name on that championship with my dad," Moyer Jr. said. "If we stay up front we'll keep going." The DIRTcar Summer Nationals returns to Illinois for the rest of the week beginning Thursday at Spoon River Speedway in Canton, Ill.
