Billy Decker charges to win at the Fall Nationals in Brockville By Martin Belanger BROCKVILLE, ONT, CAN - OCTOBER 13, 2017 - One driver was on a mission as the Super DIRTcar Series kicked off the 9th annual Falls Nationals at Brockville. Losing the lead in the early portion, Billy Decker never let off Jimmy Phelps and made a late race pass en route to win #4 on the Series this season. ''It has been a long time coming!'' said Decker getting a first win since Eldora back in July. ''The car was really good even though we struggled on the bottom groove, again the track changed as we were hammering pretty hard, it was a lot of fun!'' added Decker as the top part of the track was good for the majority of driver throughout the race. Coming into Brockville with a 46-point deficit over Matt Sheppard, Decker is looking forward to the World Finals at Charlotte: ''Every night we go out and swing at it, we want to win every race and Charlotte will be no different!'' said Decker who reduced the margin by a few points as Sheppard came in third. Leading the way for a great part of the feature, Jimmy Phelps was happy to bring his potent 98H into second: ''The car was tight up, Billy was pretty good at the end, we were good but not good enough tonight'' mentioned Phelps who reminded the different scenario that occurred last year: ''This is the car we tore up here last year, we rebuild it over the winter and here we are!'' After a magical NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week at Oswego, Matt Sheppard was satisfied with his third-place finish: ''We got up there, we were everywhere behind the leader, it was a matter of Billy or myself to pass Phelps first to take the lead, hats off to Billy for his good race'' With the season ending in a few weeks at Charlotte; Sheppard will be the man to watch having a slight lead over Decker in the point standing: ''Charlotte is a wild card, you never know what will happen there'' said Sheppard. Billy Decker charged to the lead in the 1000 Island RV Falls Nationals 1000, as Jimmy Phelps and Matt Sheppard quickly making their way into the top 3 within the first few laps as Ryan Arbuthnot and Steve Bernard where also in the mix. Lap traffic became a factor with a quarter of the race done and this enabled Phelps to grab the lead coming off turn 4 on lap 30. Phelps led the way in front as Decker and Sheppard stayed within tight distance of the 98H. As the race was able to pick up some momentum, the front 3 drivers stayed together as both Decker and Phelps were waiting for an error from the leader. In the late portion of the race, traffic was again an influence as Decker was able to regain the lead, the driver of the #91 never looked back and went on to capture his fourth win of the season in front of Phelps and Sheppard. Ryan Arbuthnot and Danny Johnson completed the podium. The Super DIRTcar Series will take a few weeks pause before heading in the season finale at the Dirt track in Charlotte as all roads leads to the World Finals. Tom Sears Jr. Rides the High Side to DirtTrackDigest.com Win and You're In Victory - Earns 41st Spot in Billy Whittaker Cars 200 FULTON, N.Y. - Oct. 8, 2017 - On the final opportunity to lock into the the grand finale of NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week, Fulton Speedway regular, Tom Sears Jr. rode the highline from the 11th-starting spot to take the victory in the DirtTrackDigest.com Win and You're In to lock-in as the 41st start in the Billy Whittaker Cars 200 at Oswego Speedway on Sunday, Oct. 8. A field of 25 Big-Block Modifieds entered in the DirtTrackDigest.com Win and You're In for their shot to earn the final starting spot in the Billy Whittaker Cars 200. In the early going of 25-lap event, it was looking like it was all Tim Sears as he jumped out to a commanding lead in front of Matt Hulsizer and the rest of the field but on lap five Tim Sears broken effectively ending his bid for to start in the Billy Whittaker Cars 200. With Hulsizer seizing the lead, it was on lap 15 that Tom Sears Jr. went to the top side and drove around Hulsizer for the lead. As weekly regular at Fulton felt he knew how the track would play out and went to the top-side as he went around Hulsizer for the lead. "Running here weekly definitely has its advantage, knowing how the track changes throughout the night," said Tom Sears Jr. "We weren't very good through the heat race but we made a couple changes like we normal do and it worked out really good." With under five laps to go the field was slowed by a yellow setting up a late-race restart. On the ensuing restart Hulsizer showed Sears Jr. a wheel but Sears Jr. proved to be too strong en route to picking up the DirtTrackDigest.com Win and You're In at Fulton Speedway. "Anytime you win a race at [Fulton] you got to work for it, nothing is ever easy here," said Tom Sears Jr. "I had to go by everybody starting 11th; I probably just found the line before anybody else did. Starting in the front you may not know where the fast lane is." Sears Jr. will make the short trek over to Oswego Speedway for Sunday's final event of the 46th annual NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT week. Hurricane Brachmann and Marcuccilli Move Through Brewerton Speedway DIRTcar Racing 358 Modified CENTRAL SQUARE, N.Y. - Oct. 5, 2017 - Brewerton Speedway and the Hurricane 100 took center stage Thursday night during NAPA Super DIRT Week satellite show. It was Chad Brachmann that worked his way up from the eighth starting spot to hold off Pat Ward on a late-race restart en route to picking up the win in the Hurricane 100. During the first half of the race, it was the polesitter Mario Clair that jumped out to an early lead, however, the yellow flag was displayed on lap one quickly slowing the field. On the ensuing restart Alan Johnson beat Clair back to the line to take the lead. Clair was just too strong has he regained the lead from A. Johnson. Chad Brachmann who started in the eighth position worked his way to the front and would battle side-by-side with Clair for 10 laps before checking out with a five-car length lead. We've been here so many times and have had nothing but bad luck," said Chad Brachmann. "I told my guys that we're going back to Brewerton [Speedway] this year cause we're going to tame it, so for us to come here tonight was awesome!" Just after the halfway point of the Hurricane 100, Danny Johnson and Pat Ward wanted their shot at Brachmann and the lead but neither could make it work. With It would be the fifth-place starter Pat Ward and Brachmann that would square up and do battle neck to for the top spot. The two would enter lap traffic with 32 laps remaining, that that is where Brachmann would excel. Masterfully picking his way through lap traffic, Brachmann opened up a solid lead over Pat Ward and Danny Johnson. The battle for second place started to heat up between Ward and D. Johnson, however, with seven laps remaining, D. Johnson pulled to the infield, effectively ending his night. With four laps to go, the No. 54 of Steve Bernard who was directly in front of the leader did a 360 spin, bringing out the yellow flag setting up a late-race single-file restart. "The I kept telling myself, stick to my plan but this car was awesome, I owe a lot to everyone that helps me and all my guys," added Bachmann. Pat Ward made a bid to the outside of Brachmann but at the end, it was Brachmann who took home the Hurricane 100 at Brewerton Speedway and the $5,000 dollar payday. The action moves back to Oswego Speedway when the 358 Modifieds take to the 5/8th-mile Clay Palace for practice at 3:35 p.m. The 358 Modifieds will conclude their Friday program with Twin-25's qualifying events during the Camping World Friday Night Lights portion of Super DIRT Week to continue to set the lineup for Saturday's Great Outdoor RV 150. For more information on NAPA Super DIRT Week visit SuperDIRTWeek.com Marcuccilli Runs Away With Hurricane 50: The Hurricane 50 drew a stellar field of 69 Sportsman DIRTcar Modifieds Thursday night at the Brewerton Speedway. Tyler Trump and Rocky Warner shared the front row for the 50-lap Feature with Warner taking command from the outset. Trump battled hard with Martin Pelletier and Rick Yelle for the runner-up spot, allowing Warner to extend his advantage. By lap 13, 7th-starting Dave Marcuccilli had worked his way into the third position behind Warner and Trump. A yellow on the following lap erased Warner's lead and put Trump and Marcuccilli on his tail. Marcuccilli quickly disposed of Trump and set his sights on Warner. Marcuccilli was closing in ever so slightly on Warner and by the halfway point, the two were separated by no more than two car-lengths. The duo stayed that distance for upwards of ten laps before a lap 35 yellow lined Warner and Marcuccilli side by side. Marcuccilli, who was strong on restarts on all evening, pounced on Warner setting up a big slide job in turn two on the 37th circuit. Marcuccilli slid across the track halting the momentum of Warner, allowing 11th-starting Glenn Forward to move by Warner as well. Forward, who won Tuesday's satellite show at Utica-Rome, stayed pace with Marcuccilli momentarily but was unable to mount a threatening challenge as the latter went on to capture the Hurricane 50 in convincing fashion over the final 15 laps. Marcuccilli, who was celebrating his 41st birthday, thrilled his fans with a burnout in turn four before parking his No. M1 in Victory Lane. "Going into that Feature, I didn't think we were going to be as good as we were in the slick stuff," a relieved Marcuccilli said. When asked about his pass for the lead on Warner, Marcuccilli cited, "I could get a run on him and get on his back bumper, but getting by him was a different story. That caution helped us. I was able to get good drive off the middle." "This is pretty awesome. A great way to start DIRT week. Hopefully, we can carry this speed into Oswego tomorrow," Marcuccilli added. Forward settled for second and was strong in short bursts. "Those late cautions really helped us. The longer the race went Green, the looser we got," Forward said. "Coming from 11th, I can't complain," Forward said with a smile. "We finally got this thing going." Trump settled for third and mentioned his weakness on the night was the restarts that the other podium finishers cited as a strong suit.   4. Williamson and Forward Take Utica Rome Speedway DIRTcar Sportsman Glenn Forward led all 25 laps on his way to his first victory of the season at Utica-Rome Speedway Tuesday night. As easy it that sounds, it was far from it for Forward, who was making just his third start of the season at Utica-Rome. Forward actually relinquished the lead to Rocky Warner on the backstretch during lap 17 but a caution for Cedric Gauvreau reverted competition back a lap, giving Forward the lead once again. Warner pounded the back bumper of Forward looking desperately for a way by on the restart, to no avail. Forward was able to extend his lead after Warner hiccupped on the cushion off of turn two. Forward took the white flag with a sizeable advantage only to see a caution flag set up a one-lap dash to the finish, giving second and third place running Warner and Matt Janczuk one last chance to steal the victory. "You never want to see a caution while leading. Especially with the 1J and 33x behind you," Forward said. On the restart, Warner slowed significantly and appeared to have a problem on the right side of his 1J machine. The slowing Warner also held up Janczuk as the duo both limped to the finish in a lackluster fashion. Warner was officially scored 12th, while Janczuk managed to hang on for sixth. Subsequently, Brent Joy and Kyle Inman moved forward on the final lap and completed the podium. When asked about the last lap restart Forward said, "I figured if it was meant to be, it's meant to be. I love racing with Rocky." Forward, who also won his Heat Race from 7th, was quick to applaud the Utica-Rome track crew, "The track was awesome. It held the moisture all night and the surface was extremely racey all night." 10th starting Rocco Leone and AJ Filbeck completed the top five. Forward, Joy, Mark Effner and Warner won the Heat Races over the 36 Sportsman signed in. Kyle Kiehn and Daryl Nutting won the two Consolation events. DIRTcar 358-Modifides The DIRTcar 358-Modifieds hit the track at Utica-Rome for a pregame shootout leading into NAPA Super DIRT Week XLVI festivities. Mat Williamson meticulously wove his way through the field from his 13th starting position to claim an impressive win at Utica- Rome Speedway after 100 laps. "20 laps into this I was ready to pull into the pits and call 'er a night," said Williamson. "We were running with 15th, 16th, 17th place cars. We were terrible the first 50 laps and then it was almost like we had a jet button in this thing and turned it on." On lap 60 of the 100-lap event, Williamson was not even a contender for the lead as he hadn't yet appeared in the top-10. He began working through the traffic on the low side of the dirt oval quickly making up time and passing cars along the way. He passed Stewart Friesen to claim the lead on lap 89. Friesen is the record holder of Utica- Rome's All-Time Modified Wins, All-Time Dirt Modified Wins, and Big Block Dirt Modified Wins. Williamson also passed by the 2017 Utica-Rome track champion, Matt Sheppard who was running second at the time before he was sidelined to mechanical failures on lap 87. "Hats off to Mat and his whole crew," said Friesen. "They are just a bunch of great racers and I got to watch him grow up. That race was pretty neat. I was cruising along there and I knew we were in trouble when we couldn't get the lappers out of the way quick enough. We were really, really good at the start but after that we were searching around and then it was lights out but still a good way to start the week." Erick Rudolph joined Friesen and Williamson to complete the podium at Utica- Rome Speedway on Tuesday evening. Next up for NAPA Super DIRT Week is the City of Oswego Parade on Wednesday beginning at noon. The parade will feature cars from every division on a five-mile course through the city before returning to Oswego Speedway for Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modified, DIRTcar 358 Mods and DIRTcar Sportsman Practice beginning at 3 p.m.

Matt Sheppard Continues Hot Streak With Second Straight Bob St. Amand Memorial Win at Merrittville Earns Fourth Consecutive Series Win MERRITTVILLE, ON, CAN - August 9, 2017 - Matt Sheppard drove past Gary Lindberg in the outside lane following a lap 81 restart to take the lead on lap 85 and then paced the final 16 laps to win his second straight Bob St. Amand Memorial 100 at Merrittville Speedway on Wednesday night. The victory was also his fourth straight with the Super DIRTcar Series and second in as many nights after he also won Tuesday at Ransomville Speedway. Lindberg, a Merrittville weekly 358 (Small Block) Modified regular, gave everything he had to keep pace with Sheppard, but came up 1.203 seconds short of his first career Series victory. "We have had some really good racecars and some really good luck. That's what it takes," Sheppard said of his four-race win streak. "Going back five races to Sharon, I thought we had a shot at winning that and got a flat tire late in the race. We were pretty good up in Quebec, good again last night and tonight I didn't think we were nearly as good, but we had a little bit of luck." Sheppard's good luck was at the expense of Erick Rudolph's misfortune during the most dramatic point of the race. Lindberg and Rudolph had broken away from the rest of the pack in the top two spots. As the race reached its final quarter, Rudolph zeroed in on Lindberg amongst the lapped traffic and pulled to his back bumper after erasing a two-second deficit. However, Rudolph's bid for the lead ended with 81 laps completed when he tried to race under Lindberg, who was running a half groove off the bottom of the track, in turn three. The two drivers made contact in the middle of the corner and the result Rudolph facing the wrong way in front of the field. The ensuing restart moved Sheppard from third to the outside of the front row beside Lindberg. The Waterloo, NY native made the most of the outside groove and took the lead from Lindberg on lap 85 after a four-lap side-by-side battle on the icy slick track. "The turning point of that race was when Rudolph tangled and spun around there," Sheppard said of the incident that halted a 51-lap green-flag run. "That kind of reset the field and gave me a little bit of open racetrack. That's kind of what we needed with the Big Block. We needed to keep our momentum up. I got up top and was able to get it rolling and just got it rolling well enough to get around Gary." While Sheppard held the point, Lindberg kept within striking distance over the next 10 laps until the final caution flag of the race waved with five laps remaining when Fred Carleton rode the outside retaining wall to a stop on the frontstretch. Contrary to most situations, Sheppard was actually happy to see the yellow flag. "That string of cautions really helped out," Sheppard said. "I would have never got around Gary without the yellow and then I didn't mind seeing that yellow with five to go. It gave me a little bit of open racetrack because I had to use every bit of it and even some more on the front stretch." Sheppard and many of the drivers resorted to dipping the right-side wheels into the moat on the frontstretch to find grip for the straightaway which was devoid of moisture elsewhere. That same slick track played to the benefit of Lindberg and the other Merrittville Small Block regulars. "The track conditions helped and so did starting up front," Lindberg said. "I thought I was a sitting duck up there and luckily we held on as long as we did. The guys put a good car under me this week." Billy Decker completed the podium with a third-place finish. Decker's second top-three result in as many nights extended his point lead over Larry Wight, who finished ninth. "We're not worried about everybody else," Decker quipped in Victory Lane. "We're just trying to take care of our own program. The Page Trucking car was pretty dogone good tonight. It was tough sledding. The boys at Mike Payne Racing work really hard and Textron's on board. We're having a pretty good year. We had a good run and had a lot of fun." Prior to the lap 81 caution, the race had run under green conditions since a lap 30 restart. Before the extended run, the race experienced a slower pace than in the second half of the race. The initial start was slowed when Tommy Flannigan and Rich Scagliotta tangled together in turn four before the first lap was completed. When the race got up to speed, polesitter Max McLaughlin took the lead with Lindberg quickly in tow. As the track slicked off, Lindberg was able to gain more on McLaughlin and was able to take the lead in turn two off a lap 13 restart. The third caution of the race came on lap 22 when Brett Hearn, Pat Ward and Mark D'Ilario made contact and were collected against the inside wall in turn four. The lap 30 restart allowed Lindberg to build his lead to over three seconds ahead of McLaughlin at the halfway mark. Rudolph, who ran inside the top-five most of the first half, entered a three-car battle for second with McLaughlin and Sanborn, NY driver Chad Brachmann. Brachmann took second initially on lap 53 before Rudolph took the spot on lap 63. Rudolph hit his stride at that point and began to reel in Lindberg, who was working flawlessly through heavy lapped traffic. In less than 10 laps, Rudolph erased a two-second Lindberg advantage. Rudolph tried the inside lane in turn two on lap 76 and the two drivers made sight contact on the backstretch. Then, on lap 81, Rudolph's hope for the victory ended with his spin in turn three, but earned him the Speedy First Aid Hard Luck award. He raced back to a 10th-place finish. McLaughlin was the night's Fast Qualifier with a lap of 16.692 seconds and the winner of heat two. Matt Sheppard, Ryan Susice and Billy Decker also picked up heat race winners. Mark D'Ilario from nearby Vineland, Ont. won the Last Chance Qualifier. Despite his troubles throughout the night, Larry Wight earned the KSE Hard Charger award, racing from 24th to 9th in the main event, an improvement of 15 spots. For Sheppard, the win was another step in the right direction towards climbing up the points ladder. Entering Wednesday's event, he was 115 points back of Decker. "All we can do is keep trying to win these races and let the rest take care of itself," Sheppard said in Victory Lane. Sheppard will get the chance to try for his fifth straight win when the Super DIRTcar Series returns to action on Thursday, August 24 at Ohsweken Speedway for the Triple Crown Showdown. Matt Sheppard Scores First Career Ransomville Win at Summer Nationals - Extends Series Win Streak to Three Races RANSOMVILLE, NY - August 8, 2017 - Matt Sheppard was the third and final leader after he took the point position from Billy Decker on lap 49 and led the remaining 52 laps to win his third straight Super DIRTcar Series race in the 33rd Summer Nationals at Ransomville Speedway on Tuesday night. The victory was also Sheppard's first career win at Ransomville and prevented rival Stewart Friesen from winning the event for the third straight year at his childhood track. "I've won a lot of races at a lot of different racetracks, but Ransomville was never one of them," Sheppard said in Victory Lane. "We were so close last year. Me and Stewie (Friesen) had a heck of a battle (last year). It just feels great to finally get to Victory Lane here, especially in such a special event." Billy Decker threw everything he had at Sheppard to try and retake the lead off the final restart with five laps to go, but fell 0.923 seconds short of a victory. Decker did manage to win an extended battle with Larry Wight to extend his point lead, which was just two markers entering the event. Ransomville regular Erick Rudolph and Stewart Friesen rounded out the top-five. "Certainly, you like to win, but we'll take it," Decker said. "The Page Trucking car was pretty good. (I was ) dicing it out there heavy in lapped traffic. That was getting dicey, I'll tell ya. The fans saw a pretty good race out there. We'll take it." The 100-lap race began with local pilot Kenny Wills III on the pole and Jimmy Phelps to his outside. Phelps led the opening lap and paced the field through a trio of cautions in the first 30 laps before Decker made his bid for the top spot. Decker seized a lap 32 opportunity when Phelps bobbled on the cushion in turn two, allowing the No.91 to race to the bottom of the track and take the lead. It was brief, however, as Phelps retook the point the following lap, but remained under siege from Decker until the two drivers exchanged the lead again on laps 38 and 39. On lap 40, Sheppard got past Phelps for second and set out to track down Decker. The caution waved again on lap 41 when Keith Flach slowed in turn four. When the race resumed on lap 47, Friesen jumped to third while Sheppard continued to pressure Decker. On lap 49, Sheppard made the decisive move of the race when he drove under Decker in turn four to claim the lead. Over the final 52 laps, Sheppard pounded his No.9s against the cushion in turns one and two, but tried both the inside and outside lanes in turns three and four as he navigated through the traffic. "It was a fine line up on the wall," Sheppard said. "It was a little closer to the wall than I like to run, but that's just part of the deal here at Ransomville. I'm just very fortunate. A lot of people got messed up on the bottom on restarts early, but my car was good enough early I could maintain and not lose any spots. It seemed like the longer the race went, the better we got." Wight jumped into the top-three off a lap 62 restart and then spent the better part of the final 35 laps dueling side-by-side with Decker for second. Wight lost the battle on lap 86 when he went off the track in turn two trying to avoid contact with a lapped car. It was the second time in the race Wight had to take evasive action to quickly avoid serious problems. Earlier in the race, he hit the outside wall and all but destroyed the body on the right side of the car. Regardless, Wight was happy with the run. "We're happy with it," Wight said. "That's just sheet metal. The main components of the car were fine and the car still handled alright. We can bang that out and patch it up for tomorrow and give it another run." Sheppard was able to outpace Decker in clean air over the final 10 laps, but restarts on laps 93 and 95 forced him to hit his marks as Decker lurked within five car lengths each time. Wight was the race's KSE Hard Charger, advancing seven positions from 10th to 3rd. Decker was the Fast Qualifier with a lap of 16.151 seconds around the 3/8-mile oval. Decker, Wight Sheppard and Max McLaughlin claimed heat race wins. McLaughlin was also the recipient of the Speedy First Aid Hard Luck Award after a he slowed on lap 57. He was able to race his way back to 14th, but lost out on a top-10 finish. Ransomville's 358 Modified weekly points leader Ryan Susice won the Last Chance Qualifier. McLaughlin and Mike Mahaney were eligible for the 811 Dig Safely New York redraw bonus award if either could win from the eighth or eleventh starting positions, but were unsuccessful. The Super DIRTcar Series returns to action on Wednesday, August 9 at Merrittville Speedway for the rescheduled Bob St. Amand Memorial 100. Rob Yetman Gets Third DIRTcar Pro Stock win at Cornwall By Martin Belanger CORNWALL, ON - July 30, 2017 - A weekend trip to Eastern Ontario and Quebec was really good for Rob Yetman as he finally got a win under his belt at Cornwall Motor Speedway and won the 50-lap DIRTcar Pro Stock tour race on Sunday night. Yetman was all smiles after capturing his first DIRTcar Pro Stock tour win at Cornwall. "We had an idea of a setup coming here tonight but after hot laps, we threw that away and it paid off," mentioned Yetman in Victory Lane. "It's always fun to race in Canada and great to finally win here at Cornwall in front of such a great crowd," added Yetman who had a great run with 2 wins and a third-place finish over the weekend. CD Beauchamp received his redemption with a second-place finish after failing post-race inspection Saturday evening at Autodrome Drummond. "I am happy," Beauchamp said. "Finishing second to Yetman is almost like a win for me. The car has been good lately for me and I feel that I will be competitive for the rest of the year." Finishing third was defending Cornwall track champion Stephane Lebrun "It's great to finish third. My wife told me that I should change the gear in the car before the feature but I did not listen to here and it paid off," Lebrun joked in Victory Lane. Jocelyn Roy led the field of 23 cars to the green and a great battle for second formed as Dave Bissonnette had the advantage over Dan Older with Beauchamp and Lebrun closely behind. The battle continued up front as Older took the lead on lap five. Bissonnette slowed down on lap eight to bring out a caution, costing Older his great position. On the restart, Beauchamp jumped to the lead with Lebrun and Yetman moving up to second and third, respectively. As the race quickly reached the halfway point, the top three remained the same with Older and George Renaud completing the top five. Beauchamp built himself a good lead over the field as a good battle was shaping up for second between Yetman and Lebrun. Yetman used the inside lane and took second with 15 laps to go and started to pull away from Lebrun. Pascal Payeur then brought out the caution on lap 38. On the following green, Yetman was able to pass Beauchamp for the lead before Kevin Fetterly slowed the field on the next lap. Nobody had anything for Yetman over the last 10 laps as Yetman went on to win his third race on the DIRTcar Pro Stock tour in 2017. Beauchamp and Lebrun completed the podium.   8. Jocelyn Roy Credited with DIRTcar Pro Stock Tour Win at Autodrome Drummond By Martin Belanger DRUMMONDVILLE, QC, CAN - July 29, 2017 - Last-minute decisions can pay off sometimes. CD Beauchamp decided on Saturday morning to travel to Autodrome Drummond for the DIRTcar Pro Stock tour event. He took the lead in the early portion of the Feature and resisted a last minute charge to claim the win. Unfortunately, Beauchamp was disqualified in post-race technical inspection. Second-place finisher Jocelyn Roy was declared the winner. Beauchamp said following the race he was surprised to see Roy battle him in the final laps "I really thought I was alone, I saw Roy pulling next to me and I said 'uh oh', but I was able to win," Beauchamp said. "I will try again (Sunday) at Cornwall." Roy battled hard to finish in the second position. "I came here to win," Roy said before learning of the disqualification. "I tried everything in the final moments. I can't thank my team enough for all the hard work put in on the car today. We will be back tomorrow night to aim for the win." Rob Yetman was also satisfied with his podium result as the third-place finisher. "I thought I could finish in second tonight but the 48 of Roy surprised me. All in all, it is good for the Series points," Yetman said. "We already have something planned for tomorrow night (at Cornwall)." Pascal Payeur and Jeffrey Lapalme were on the front row of the 50-lap event as Payeur took the lead over the field of 22 Pro Stock machines with Yves Hamel is second and CD Beauchamp in third. A good battle occurred between the three drivers for the lead as they parted ways with the rest of the field with 10 laps in the books. Beauchamp was strong on the inside and challenged Payeur for the lead before both collided a bit on lap 13 without any damage as Payeur held the lead. The first caution came out on lap 19 as Francois Adam slowed on the backstretch. On the restart, Beauchamp took the top spot as he got a great jump with Payeur and Hamel in the top 3 as Dan Older and Rob Yetman completed the podium. Yetman had a strong run on the top and was quickly moving up to second spot as the flagman showed the halfway signal to the field. As Beauchamp kept his distance from Yetman for the lead, Roy made his way to fourth as the event reached the 30-lap mark. Roy then moved up to third as Payeur faded to fourth with less than 20 laps to go. Roy had the fastest car on the speedway at that moment and passed Yetman for second on lap 36. Both drivers were side by side for a few laps as Roy was able to pull away from the current series high point man, Yetman. Roy gained some ground on Beauchamp with less than 10 laps to go and was on his back bumper, but could not complete the pass before the checkered flag. The DIRTcar Pro Stock tour will end a busy weekend as the drivers will travel to Cornwall Motor Speedway tomorrow evening for the sixth round of the Series. Race time for the 50-lap event is 6:00pm. Autodrome Drummond Notebook A good field of 22 cars signed-in for the fifth round of the tour. Ten of the top 11 drivers in the DIRTcar Pro Stock series championship were in the pits. The Kid's Alright: Billy Whittaker Wins All-Star Showdown at Eldora ROSSBURG, OH - July 19, 2017 - Billy Whittaker started on the pole and drove the cushion to perfection on his way to victory in the Super DIRTcar Series All-Star Showdown at Eldora Speedway on Wednesday night. While it was a non-points race, it was Whittaker's first Feature win of any kind with the Series. The Central Square, NY drive was ecstatic in Victory Lane following the race. "Tony Stewart's done a heckuva job with this place," Whittaker said. "I've never been here, so for me to roll off with this car and this team, you know I do this part-time, so this is as cool as it gets. Look at this place. All the way around, there's fans everywhere." Whittaker finished seventh in his heat, but earned the pole for the 20-lap Feature via a 14-car inversion draw. The track position proved the deciding factor for Whittaker as he jumped out to a convincing early lead. Rookie pilot Brandon Walters jumped ahead to second off the initial green flag from the third starting position, but was quickly under pressure from Hearn who challenged for the runner-up spot on lap four. Hearn took the spot in turn two and brought Decker with him to shuffle Walters back to fourth. By lap five Whittaker had built a straightaway lead over Hearn, but wasn't hustling the car any harder than usual, he said. "I found a pretty good line right away and I was just driving around, honestly," he said. "It was good. I didn't see anybody. I didn't hear anybody. I watched (flagman Dave Farney) for some signs and nobody was on me so I was just cruising." With eight laps to go, the Hearn-Decker tandem began to eat away at Whittaker's lead. Whittaker ran against the cushion, which was planted on the outside retaining wall, early on, but dropped to the bottom in turns one and two as the race wore on. "Early there was a little more bite (up top) and I saw it get blacker and blacker, but in one and two there was still a patch of bite in the middle," Whittaker said. "If I could roll into it on the throttle, I could hit and then get off. I didn't slide at all. Three and four you kind of slid into the cushion and drove off. Sometimes I did that perfectly and sometimes I didn't. I was very fortunate to be out front and have some fun." Hearn was searching for the fastest lane to gain on Whittaker and tried several options with Decker in tow. "I was searching and searching and I found some really good stuff that was working," Hearn explained. "At one point, I started to really reel him in pretty quick, but with five to go I searched a little bit more and it kind of evened out for a couple of laps. I thought at one point I was going to get a shot at him, but it didn't work out." Hearn tried to search for a better lane one final time with two laps to go. That move allowed Decker to show the nose under the No.20 and forced Hearn to be conservative. It proved the difference as Whittaker held on to claim the checker 1.033 seconds ahead of Hearn. When he saw the checkered flag, Whittaker couldn't believe his eyes. "I didn't know how many laps were left, so the last three or four I started tightening up, going 'where is everybody?" he explained. "When I saw the double checkered I thought 'I'll go one more lap just to make sure'. There it was, but I couldn't believe it." Decker raced on Hearn's rear bumper to a third-place finish after winning Tuesday's full points event. Max McLaughlin and Mat Williamson rounded out the top-five. The victory almost didn't happen for Whittaker, who admitted he was hesitant to make the long haul from Central New York to the Rossburg, Ohio half-mile. The win certainly made the trip worthwhile and when Whittaker celebrated in victory lane, he didn't want to come down off the roof of the car. "I'm still shocked," Whittaker said. "You never know when the next time's going to be. This Series is so tough, so competitive. The combined number of years I'm racing against is insane." The second-place finish for Hearn was an impressive win after the his team battled through motor issues all day Tuesday, but managed to solve the problem and earn a top-five finish on Tuesday before Wednesday's runner-up result. "This was like controlled chaos for two days," Hearn said. "To have the issues we had yesterday to start with, and at one point we thought we were going to be forced to go back to the shop (in New Jersey) and get something together for Thursday night (at Sharon). Billy Decker Dominates at Eldora For Tuesday Night Tailgate Win - Veteran Driver Earns Third Win of 2017, 68th Career Series Victory ROSSBURG, OH - July 18, 2017 - Billy Decker started on the pole and dominated all 75 laps on a very fast track to win the Super DIRTcar Series Tuesday Night Tailgate at Eldora Speedway. Decker had to outrun second-starting Pat Ward on a number of mid-race restarts and a final one with 12 laps remaining to earn his Series-leading third victory of the season. The win was also the 68th in Decker's Super DIRTcar Series career. "I really wanted a win at one of the marquee speedways," Decker said following the win. "It's big, It feels really good." Ward had to be strong in his own right to hold off Matt Sheppard who survived a furious and chaotic battle inside the top-five to claim the final spot on the podium. Brett Hearn and Peter Britten rounded out the top-five. Decker was strong from the drop of the green flag and chose the outside lane for the start of the race, a rare occurrence. However, the Unadilla, NY native was tough right away and jumped out to an early advantage. "They tilled the track a little bit, but I think (the racing groove) was going to end up there anyhow," Decker said of the preferred groove. "When you pull a good number and...you're going to have a forgiving racetrack and you couple that with a fast racecar, it feels pretty good." After Decker worked his way into traffic on lap eight, there were some tense moments. On lap 11, Decker got stuck behind CG Morey's No.14 as he tried to put him one lap down. He got past Morey in the next corner, but lost half of the advantage he had built over Ward. "Early on, I thought I found a line where I was gaining a little bit before we hit that heavy lapped traffic," Ward said. "Then, I think it got so top-fast that the bottom wasn't working and I couldn't get anything. [Decker] started pulling away, he was running the cushion a lot better than I was." The first caution of the race waved shortly afterwards on lap 14 when Erick Rudolph slowed to a stop in turn two. Shaun Pangman suffered a flat tire on the restart, which slowed the race again. Pangman's night ended when he hit the outside wall in turn one on lap 33. "The lapped traffic was getting a little bit dicey," Decker said. "A couple of guys would run a line and move in the next turn, which makes it hairy and I thought I fired really good on the restarts. Given that I restarted so well, I didn't mind the cautions." Ward knew he didn't have ability to get by Decker on the restart as did his best to work the inside lane. "Once he got to the top in one and two, I could almost drag up even with him out of four a couple of times, but you lose your momentum when you try to run down on the bottom," Ward explained. "He just started to pull away after that." The restart on lap 39 saw Peter Britten positioned in third ahead of Sheppard and Stewart Friesen. Britten held the spot solidly as he also found speed in the outside lane behind Decker and Ward. That changed, however, on a lap 49 restart following a caution for debris when Sheppard and Brett Hearn both got a better jump out of turn four and shuffled Britten back to fifth. Two more caution followed on lap 56 and lap 63 and each time Decker was up to the challenge. The lap 56 caution came for Tim Fuller, who earned the Speedy First Aid Hard Luck award, after he suffered mechanical issues while running inside the top-10. On the final restart, Hearn ducked to the bottom of Sheppard for the third spot, but couldn't keep the same momentum in the lower lane. The final 12 laps allowed the field to fall single-file and Decker to cruise off to the victory ahead of Ward, Sheppard, Hearn and Britten. The restart were chaotic behind the two frontrunners with drivers often ducking low to try and get a run out of turn four. The end result was often three- and four-wide battles into turns one and two. "t seemed like row two and row three were a free for all on those restarts," Sheppard explained. "I got up to third early there and I think I fell back to fourth and I might have been back to fifth at one point. Luckily I got a good restart on one of the restarts and I was able to stay there until we went single-file. The track was wide, with the cushion about a half lane off the outside wall, but still heavy and fast after the track crew added water to the racing surface before the main event. It created a physically demanding task for each driver on track. "It was like time trialing for 75 laps," said Sheppard. "That's about what it felt like." The victory helped Decker take a 26-point leader over Larry Wight in the championship standings. It also offers his team a morale boost, but Decker isn't going to get too comfortable. "Winning fixes a lot of things, but it doesn't fix everything," Decker said. "You can't get that stuff back that you giveaway. We've had a couple of tough Series races ourselves, but when you come back and you win it helps you look forward rather than look back." Sheppard, Friesen and Decker won the qualifying heats. Billy Whittaker won the Last Chance Qualifier. Keith Flach earned the KSE Hard Charger Award advancing 19 positions from 27th to 8th. Larry Wight was the Pole Position Raceway Fast Qualifier with a lap of 16.382 seconds, just 0.002 faster than Decker. Wight, however, hit the turn three wall on the first lap of his heat. He suffered right-side damage to his No.99L and has to qualify through the Last Chance Qualifier. Wight drove to a ninth-place finish in the main event. The Super DIRTcar Series returns to action on Wednesday, July 19 at Eldora for the all-star race at the Eldora Dirt Derby alongside the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Friesen edges McCreadie by a Nose at Hall of Fame 100 - Stewart Friesen picks up second Super DIRTcar Series win of the season at Weedsport Speedway WEEDSPORT, NY - July 11, 2017 - On a night that honored Northeast Dirt Modifieds new hall of famers, it was potentially two-future Hall of Famers that battled it out for 100-laps in the Hall of Fame 100 at Weedsport Speedway. Tim McCreadie and Stewart Friesen were the class of the field but in the end, it was Friesen who edged out McCreadie for his second Super DIRTcar Series win by a half-car length at the line and to come home $10,000-dollars richer. On Monday evening, the Northeast Dirt Modified Hall of Fame inducted it's 2017 class which included active drivers, Alan Johnson and Steve Paine along with pioneer Freddy Adam's. Fittingly on the night after being inducted into the Hall of Fame, Alan Johnson and Steve Paine would roll off for the 100-lap Feature event side-by-side in the 10th-row. Johnson would bring home his No. 14J with a 14th-place finish while Paine, who was in the Matt Sheppard No. 7x came home with a 12th-place finish. When the night kicked off, it was second-place in points, Billy Decker showing the way early by wrapping up the Pole Position Raceway Fast Qualifier award with a lap of 15.348-seconds. Decker would also go on to win his heat race. In the other three heat races, it was Brett Hearn, Eric Rudolph, Larry Wight making them eligible for the 811 Dig Safely redraw. Both Rich Scagliotta and Max McLaughlin drew the number 8 and 11 starting position, giving them the opportunity to take home a little extra cash with a win. The 811 Dig Safely award would not be awarded out as both drivers finished outside of the top-10. Andrew Ferguson qualified for the Hall of Fame 100 at Weedsport Speedway by winning the Last Chance Qualifying race giving him the 21st-starting position in the 100-lap Feature event. Up front for the Hall of Fame 100 it was Tim McCreadie and Peter Britten as the field took the green flag. McCreadie quickly rocketed out to the lead while Stewart Friesen jumped around Britten for the second spot. On lap 15 the race saw its first yellow flag for the 98H of Jimmy Phelps who tagged the front stretch wall during a heated battle for fifth-place along with Britten, Decker, Wight. Phelps would head pit side only to return. Because of tonight's hardship and 19th-place finish, Phelps took home the Speedy First Aid Hard Luck Award. As the field got back under way, McCreadie once again jumped out to a lead showing the way over Friesen. At the quarter-mark of the 100-lap Feature event, from the ninth-starting position, Lightning Larry Wight had worked his way all the way up into contention to fourth place and was quickly challenging for a spot on the podium. "We were pretty good on the bottom in the beginning," said Larry Wight who finished third in the Hall of Fame 100. "When the [bottom] went away we were just too tight but we were also too tight on the top. I kind of had to toss the car in but we were losing too much time getting into the corner. It kind of sheered my right-rear tire up and after that we were just kind of riding." While McCreadie was out front of the 31-car field, the leaders had to pick their way through lap traffic. With three distinct grooves to do so, it appeared as the top on the cushion was the place to be. McCreadie seemed to have the better car going through Turns 1 and 2, but Friesen would pull away around Turns 3 and 4. "We were pretty even, [Friesen] would get away, I would run him down, it was kind of like a rubber band," added McCreadie. Just before the halfway mark of the 100-lap race, another yellow flag was displayed for a slowed No. 22 of Brandon Walters in Turn 2. Choosing the inside lane on the lap 51 restart, Friesen got a run going down the back stretch and threw a perfectly executed slide job on McCreadie to get by the No. 39 for the lead. "I just made a mistake on that restart," said Tim McCreadie. "I should have taken the top but I went in there and slide for life and that was it, I saw the 44 the rest of the race. We were just cruising along pretty good. I was running along as hard as I could. I don't know if Stewart was laying back but I only have one gear and that's go as hard as I can. Hats off to those guys." Friesen wouldn't be able to get too far out front as McCreadie and Wight were challenging for the top spot. "We were just waiting for those guys to make a mistake and hope that we could get by [Friesen, McCreadie] but it's not something you're going to see those two do very often, said Larry Wight. "[Friesen and McCreadie] have been running up front for so many years." For the remaining laps of the Hall of Fame 100 the top-three ran within tenths of each other until a late-race yellow flag came out for the No. 109 of Billy Whittaker who was unable to make it off the track. Setting up a green-white-checker finish, Friesen got another stellar restart on McCreadie. Both the No. 44 of Friesen would run the top-side and the No. 39 of McCreadie was running down low. The two came off Turn 4 for the final time side-by-side dragging racing to the checkers, it was Friesen who would just barely edge out McCreadie for his second win of the Super DIRTcar Series season. Larry Wight who won at Airborne Park Speedway came home with a podium finish in third. "I honestly didn't know the race way over with 'cause I was trying to do the best I could and I thought we just got him but then I heard the race director came on the radio and I said, damn it," said McCreadie. "What a race, Timmy [McCreadie] got 10-grand from me a couple races ago, we got 10 from him tonight," said Stewart Friesen. "What a great race team, pretty top-notice. We got a racing coming up. I've been wanting to win one at [Weedsport Speedway] since Al [Heinke] took over and they redid this place. What a great facility." The KSE Hard Charger in the Hall of Fame 100 was Gary Tompkins in the No. 84 who started in the 14th position and charged his way up to 7th-place finish. Lightning Strikes For Larry Wight at Airborne - Wight Gets First Super DIRTcar Series Win of 2017 PLATTSBURGH, NY - July 6, 2017 - Larry Wight displayed a dominating performance in the Super DIRTcar Series first-ever visit to Airborne Park Speedway on Thursday night. Wight became the race's fourth leader when he took the lead from Keith Flach on a lap 31 restart and then dominated the final 69 circuits to earn his first Super DIRTcar Series win of the season. Wight lapped all but the top-five finishers, which included runner-up Max McLaughlin, Jimmy Phelps, Tim Fuller and Pat Ward, on the way to his third career Series win and first since September 11, 2015 at Quebec's Autodrome Granby. The victory was especially impressive for Wight given he was racing in a backup No.99L car after his primary ride was destroyed in a wreck last Sunday at Utica-Rome Speedway. "After everything we've been going through trying to get this backup car to where our primary car was, it was a big thrash by Scott to get it ready," Wight said in Victory Lane. "We struggled a little bit at the beginning of the night figuring out a couple of bugs with it, but by the end of the night we got it dialed in." Local driver Matt Woodruff, a weekly competitor at Airborne, started on the pole with Billy Decker to his outside for the 100-lap Feature. Woodruff led the opening seven laps until Decker found his way to the point on lap eight via the bottom lane in turn one. Decker paced the field for a short while until Ravena, NY native Keith Flach, who had lined up fourth on the starting grid, found the outside lane to his liking and grabbed the top spot from Decker on lap 14. Flach was able to pace open a half-second lead as Wight fought to take second from Decker on lap 16. Wight made his challenge for the lead on lap 20, but Flach held the momentum in the top groove of the track and maintained the lead. The first caution of the race came on lap 26 for a slowed Brandon Walters and when the race restarted on lap 31, Wight made what proved to be the race-winning move when he drove around the outside of Flach to seize the lead while Decker followed suit to take second. Over the final 69 laps, Wight led Decker by as much as 3.8 seconds, which equated to a full straightaway. Decker held the runner-up spot through the battles in traffic and was well ahead of a spirited third-place joust between Max McLaughlin, Jimmy Phelps and Brett Hearn. "This place kind of raced like Utica-Rome around the top," said Wight, who raced the outside lane in turns three and four all night long. "I've flirted with the edge there enough to know where you can get it and where you can't." Decker's night came to an abrupt end, however, when he fell off the pace and pulled into the infield with just four laps to go while running second. As a result, Decker received the Speedy First Aid Hard Luck Award. The caution waved one lap following Decker's misfortune when Brett Hearn came to a stop at the top of turn two. That yellow flag setup a restart with three laps to go and gave McLaughlin one final shot at a win. Wight got a perfect jump on the single-file restart to foil any of McLaughlin's hopes of claiming a VP Racing Fuels checkered flag. "I was trying to slow him down, hoping he would stumble on that start and give me a little bit of a jump," Wight said of his strategy. "I was just hoping my right-rear didn't seal over on me. Max was doing everything, but saving his right-rear, so I was hoping he wouldn't roll the bottom. Everything just worked out right." McLaughlin threw everything he had at Wight on the restart, but couldn't find enough grip at the top of turns one and two, where the bottom had become the preferred groove, to create a drag race down the backstretch into turn three. Regardless, the second-place tally marks McLaughlin's best finish of the season with the Series and is his second top-five of the year. "I can't be upset with another second-place finish," McLaughlin said. "He was just a little better through one and two. He could keep it a little lower than I could. I was just a little loose, but all in all we had a great car again. These cars have been phenomenal all year with the new Teo (chassis)." Decker was the Pole Position Raceway Fast Qualifier award winner when he set quick time with a lap of 16.467 seconds. Decker was also a heat winner along with Tim Fuller and Mike Maresca. McLaughlin nearly became the first driver to claim the 811 Dig Safely New York Redraw Bonus after starting from the 11th position. Hearn was the other driver eligible for the bonus as the 8th starter. The Super DIRTcar Series returns to action on Sunday, July 9 at Cornwall Motor Speedway. New York Number: Friesen Flies to Victory at Utica-Rome - Sprakers, NY Driver Scores First Win of 2017 in New Yorker 100 VERNON, NY - July 2, 2017 - Stewart Friesen took the lead from Pat Ward on lap 55 with a pass in the slick outside lane after a lap 45 restart and withstood a fury of action, including a pair of red flags in the final 25 laps to win the New Yorker 100 at Utica-Rome Speedway on Sunday night. It was the first Super DIRTcar Series victory of the season for the Sprakers, NY native and the 24th of his career to give him sole possession of 11th on the Series all-time wins list. "What a racecar, wow," Friesen said in Victory Lane. "This Halmar team just worked so hard to be better on these slick tracks." The track was especially slick for the New Yorker 100, despite the excessive amount of rain over the last month in the area. After setting the Pole Position Raceway Fast Time and then winning his heat, Matt Sheppard pulled the pole for the 100-lap main event. Sheppard came to the green flag with Max McLaughlin on the outside of the front row. The Waterloo, NY native Sheppard took the early lead while Ward, who is a weekly regular at Utica-Rome along with Sheppard, quickly jumped into third behind third-starting Billy Decker. Decker kept pace with the Series point leader after they caught lapped traffic on lap 15 and on lap 37 drove to the outside of Sheppard for the lead in turn three. Off of turn four, Decker crossed lanes and raced inside of Sheppard in turn one and completed the pass exiting turn two to lead lap 38. Decker, who has two wins on the tour this season, had the lead for just one lap though when the caution waved before lap 39 was complete after Sheppard slowed with a flat right-front tire, forcing him to surrender the second spot. On the ensuing restart at lap 45, Ward rode the outside lane to the point and shuffled Decker back to second. Friesen's car hit its stride midway through the race and he sped past Decker for second on lap 52. Just two laps later, Friesen was knocking on Ward's door in search of the lead. Friesen found grip up top and soared in the high groove to clear the No.42 for the number one spot on lap 55. A lap after Friesen led, the caution waved again for a slowed Alan Johnson who had trouble with his No.14J. The restart with 61 laps in the books was the best for Friesen as he used the next nine laps to race ahead to a more than two-second advantage over Ward. The deficit was eliminated for Ward when Claude Hutchings Jr. rolled his No.84j in turn three after contact with Beth Bellinger's No.1s to cause a red flag. The misfortune for Hutchings earned him the Speedy First Aid Hard Luck award. Friesen was strong again on the restart and cruised away from Ward despite the latter's challenge on the bottom of the track. With 20 laps to go, the top-five were single-file while a three-car battle waged behind them for sixth between Brett Hearn, Sheppard and Wight. Hearn maintained sixth while Sheppard and Wight raced side-by-side for seventh. Following a lap 86 restart for a spun Nick Webb, Friesen again raced away from the field until the second red flag of the race came on lap 88. The event was stopped when Sheppard and Wight collided on the backstretch, sending Wight's No.99L airborne for two end-over-end tumbles in turn three. The incident ended the night for both drivers. Ward's final chance to reel in Friesen came on the restart with 12 laps to go, but it was not to be as the Sprakers driver drove away to his 54th career victory at Utica-Rome. "I found something on the outside and we were able to race past Pat (Ward) and Fuller and Decker," Friesen said. "I can't believe it. This place has been tough. I think we have something now. It was pretty sporty out there." The win was especially important for Friesen, who previously raced weekly at Utica-Rome. It was the best possible home coming for his No.44 team to shake their winless start to the season. "This is great, especially here," Friesen said. "This is probably the toughest track on the circuit. It's pretty cool. We need to get a plus one to keep Matt at bay. He's coming on the win list, so this will keep him back for another week." Ward was satisfied with his second-place finish behind Friesen, his best result to date in 2017 with the Series. "My crew guys made some adjustments after the heat and it took right off," Ward said. "I thought we were pretty good and then Stewart drove around me, like he does a lot of times. He was good. I'm happy with second. We had a good car." Tim Fuller completed the podium with a third-place finish, his best finish of the campaign and his first top-five result. "We had a good run," Fuller said. "Thanks to Ray Graham. I had a good car. To finish in the top-three at Utica is pretty amazing." Earlier in the night, Wight, Sheppard, Fuller and Friesen won qualifying heat races. Rob Bellinger and Keith Flach claimed wins in the Last Chance Qualifiers. The KSE Hard Charger was Gary Tomkins, who raced from 14th to the seventh finishing position. Jimmy Phelps and Wight were the Dig Safely NY redraw bonus eligible drivers after starting eight and eleventh respectively. Phelps finished 14th while Wight was scored in the 25th position after his wreck. Cornwall Calling: Stewart Friesen Looking For Eastern Ontario Repeat - Super DIRTcar Series Makes First Canadian Stop on July 9 CONCORD, N.C. - June 30, 2017 - The Super DIRTcar Series is set to roll north of the border for the first time in 2017 when it invades Cornwall Motor Speedway on Sunday, July 9. It marks the Series' only stop at the high-banked quarter-mile this season, which means the fans and drivers alike are sure to flock to the action-packed Eastern Ontario track. Stewart Friesen, originally from Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON and now residing in Sprakers, NY, is the defending winner of the event. The 23-time Super DIRTcar Series winner looks forward to his annual trip to Cornwall, he said. "It's pretty neat. Anytime you get the Big-Blocks on a track like that that's fast and racey, it's a lot of fun," Friesen said. "It's super fast for the size of it, so things happen quick. We had a great race with Matt Sheppard there last year and we were able to come out on top, so that was cool. We have a lot of friends up there, so we look forward to going there." While he has two Series races before the stop at Cornwall, Friesen is still looking for his first win with the Super DIRTcar Series this season. Fortunately, he has the benefit of a winning notebook heading into the event. "We'll just look back to our notebook from the previous year," Friesen said of his preparation for the July 9 event. "Going there last year for the first time in a number of years and coming in blind was kind of neat. It kept us fresh and we didn't bring any bad habits with us. This year we'll go in there and hopefully we can get the ball turned around on the Series and get some good top-threes and good top-fives and hopefully sneak one out again. It was pretty cool last year." Cornwall has a unique configuration compared to most tracks the Series visits. The high-banked corners were carved out of the track rather than built up, which creates a unique infield berm at the bottom of each turn. "It's neat because it's one of the tracks that doesn't have yuke tires, which is nice, but it has a defined bottom groove," Friesen explained. "You can get your left front up on the infield a little bit, but it's not really the super fast way to go. It has two defined grooves and its technical for the size of it." The track has been described as resembling an "angry cereal bowl" where drivers tend to carry plenty of speed around the track. Usually that means a quick reaction time is necessary to evade traffic, especially during the 100-lap Feature. "That's pretty close to right, I'd say," Friesen said with a chuckle when asked about the description of the track. "For 100 laps you're up on it and the laps go by really fast, but it's exciting. You get right up to the edge of the track and there's also a good bottom there. You want to have a free racecar and be up on the wheel because things happen quick." Cornwall is also a driver-favorite track because of its passionate fan base. With the Super DIRTcar Series only visiting the track once per season, the Cornwall faithful turnout in abundance to cheer on their favorite drivers and they aren't shy about it either. "We always look forward to going there. It's great to go somewhere with a great fan-base like that," Friesen said. "I think Cornwall is very similar to Grandview in Pennsylvania with the fan-base, the amount of fans and the way they pack the place. It's exciting for us when we come up there." Dave Marcuccilli Steals DIRTcar Sportsman Series Central Region Win From Taylor Caprara - Second Straight Series Victory For Marcuccilli LAFARGEVILLE, NY - June 28, 2017 - Taylor Caprara had all but sewn up his first DIRTcar Sportsman Series win of the season on Wednesday night at Can-Am Motorsports Park, but a caution after the white flag waved gave Dave Marcuccilli the opportunity he needed to pounce. Caprara's lead of nearly a full straightaway at the massive half-mile track was erased for a green-white-checkered finish and Marcuccilli used the restart to steal the lead from Caprara and march off with his second straight Series win. "He had us covered. We just got lucky," Marcuccilli said in Victory Lane. "I was way too tight the whole race and I couldn't quite run the top as well as he was. I would get in there and get tight so I kept sliding it in there just to get it to turn. Man, that's kind of an unbelievable one." Caprara started on the outside of the front row with polesitter Tyler Trump pacing the field to the green flag. Trump led the opening two laps while Marcucilli worked past Caprara for the second spot. Before the third lap could be completed, Josh Reome, Todd Root and Brian Hudson came together in turn four that resulted in a red flag as Reome flipped upside down. After a lengthy clean up, the field sorted itself out for a lengthy green flag run that saw Maruccilli take over the lead in the outside lane on the restart while Caprara raced to second. The top two broke away from the rest of the field four second by the time the race hit lap 12. On lap 13, Caprara caught Marcucilli and began to nose inside for the top spot. As they raced to the cross flags for the halfway mark, Caprara switched lanes and went to the outside which allowed him to take the lead from Marcucilli in turns one and two. Two laps after taking the point, Caprara found himself in traffic, but navigated the slower cars without flaw and grew his lead over Marcuccilli. With five laps to go, Caprara's lead was a half straightaway over Marcuccilli who also had a half straightaway lead over Rocky Warner, who had made his way to third from the 20th starting spot. Caprara looked to have the victory in the bag, but a caution on the final lap for Dave Rogers who hit the turn three wall setup a green-white-checkered finish. Caprara chose the outside lane for the restart, a decision that proved fatal and Marcuccilli used the inside lane to muscle past Caprara. The final lap and a half saw Caprara use every line of the racetrack to try and regain the lead, but it was too little too late. "He probably should have picked the bottom (on the restart) and would have won it easy," Marcuccilli said. "With him giving me the bottom, we had the better run when we restarted and that was just the difference in the race because he was gone. I wasn't catching him." Despite how the finish unfolded, Caprara was confident he made the right decision in choosing the outside lane, but would have liked another chance to better execute his restart. "I definitely didn't want to see that yellow," Caprara said following the race. "My car seemed to roll the top pretty well. If anything, we could have paced that restart a little bit better and got an advantage there, but you're dealing with the best in the business here. To sit behind these guys is pretty awesome." The thrilling finish had fans on the edge of their seats which overshadowed a spectacular drive by Warner to a podium finish. Warner was a late arrival and missed time trials and had to race from 10th to fifth in his heat race to be the final transfer car into the Feature. "It was a night and day difference," Warner said of the change in track from heats to the Feature after the track crew re-worked the surface at intermission. "We setup for the slick and I thought maybe we'd have something for them. My car was actually better early than it was late. It was a little tight there at the end there. We had an awesome car, just starting 20th kind of killed it." The DIRTcar Sportsman Series Central Region resumes action at Weedsport Speedway on July 3 for the Sportsman Classic. The Eastern Region, which completed its first race on May 28 at Devil's Bowl (VT) Speedway where Chad Edwards went to Victory Lane, will continue with it's action on July 15 at Lebanon-Valley Speedway. Tim McCreadie Steals the Spotlight at the Big Show - Watertown, NY Driver Takes the Lead From Larry Wight With 23 Laps to go MALTA, NY - June 27, 2017 - Larry Wight took the lead from Stewart Friesen on a lap 74 restart, but Tim McCreadie pounded the cushion to go from fourth to the lead on lap 77. McCreadie then led the final 23 laps of Brett Hearn's Big Show 9 to claim the $10,000 winner's share at Albany-Saratoga on Tuesday night. It was McCreadie's first win since he won at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in November 2011. Friesen took second and Matt Sheppard took third from Larry Wight when he jumped the cushion late in the race and had to settle for fourth. Hearn rounded out the top-five. "I've been trying to run this race for a while and take some of Brett's money," McCreadie said, tongue-in-cheek following his first Super DIRTcar Series win since 2011. "He always makes more than us and it's nice to take $10,000 from him once and a while." Wight started on the front row with Max McLaughlin for the 100-lap Feature. Wight drove his No.99L to the point position at the drop of the green flag while Stewart Friesen raced into second from the third starting spot. McCreadie was quickly on the move from his sixth starting spot and used the same outside lane to take second from Friesen at lap 17. Twenty laps in, Wight found his way into heavy lapped traffic as the race stayed green. At lap 22, Friesen took second back from McCreadie while Wight was able to race freely through the traffic. Friesen caught the leader on lap 42 and passed Wight to take over the lead on lap 46. Friesen held the point just as the first caution of the race waved at lap 50 when Rich Scagliotta got turned around in turn two. When the race restarted on lap 59, Friesen held off Wight's charge while Sheppard took third from McCreadie. The top-five maintained their spots, with Hearn in fifth, until the second and final caution at lap 68. The final restart with 74 laps complete produced all the action at Wight retook the lead from Friesen in the outside lane while McCreadie made his move from fourth to second before taking the lead three laps later. "I couldn't really hit the bottom at all and when we had cold tires we could roll the middle pretty well," Wight said. "It seemed to be that if we got too much heat in the right-rear, the car went away on us. I don't know if it was me being too hard on it or if we just need to do a little more work on the car itself to get it to run with that hot tires." Before Wight could worry about getting too much heat in the right-rear tire, McCreadie used the outside lane to drive to the lead. "I just got lucky," McCreadie said in Victory Lane. "Those guys were hunting the bottom and I had been up there banging the cushion for probably 70 laps and I just figured the only shot I had was to try and go in above it into (turn) one and it happened to stick. It could have easily went the other way, but we're happy tonight." With eight laps to go, Wight jumped the cushion while running second and fell to fourth as both Friesen and Sheppard raced past him. Friesen caught McCreadie over the final five laps, but couldn't get close enough to regain the top spot for the win. "Our Halmar car was good on the long run, which is cool," Friesen said. "It's something we haven't really had all year. Second to a guy like that, I mean there aren't too many guys that can run a curb like that and put it where he needed. We'll take a good second. We had a great long run car and it was good. I'm proud of everybody." "I didn't know how many laps were left, but I saw him poke (the nose) once or twice," McCreadie said of Friesen's late challenge. "It was really kind of dusty once you caught lapped traffic. It wasn't that you couldn't maneuver, I just couldn't really see through the center of the corner to put my right-rear on the cushion so it slowed my entry down and my whole corner down." Sheppard held on for a third-place finish, his third straight top-five finish and fifth consecutive top-five result to start the season. "We had a really good car there in the middle of the race," Sheppard said. "We really didn't need that lap 68 caution. I was just rolling by Larry Wight for second and I don't think anybody wanted to be third on that next restart. Timmy was third on the restart before and that's how I got by him. Then I got pinned down there and just lost some ground. I started rolling again there at the end, but it was too little too late." Wight was happy to earn a top-five finish, but naturally would have preferred to hold on for the win. Mostly, Wight was surprised McCreadie was able to use the outside lane to take the win. "I never thought anyone could get the top to work with it that far out and as nasty as the cushion was, but he must have been free enough where he could lean on it," Wight said. "It seemed to be that if I went up there it would pull the nose and the car was a handful up there." Erick Rudolph was the 811 Dig Safely New York redraw bonus eligible driver as the eighth starter. He raced to a sixth-place finish in the Feature event. Pat Ward, who raced to an 11th-place finish, was the Pole Position Raceway Fast Qualifier. Marcuccilli Battles Past Davis For Win at Outlaw - Third Different Sportsman Series Central Region Winner in Three Races DUNDEE, NY - June 20, 2017 - Dave Marcuccilli used the track position a lap 27 restart afforded him and won a side-by-side battle with Ronnie Davis III to claim a victory in the DIRTcar Sportsman Series Central Region Feature at Outlaw Speedway on Tuesday night. Marcucciili's victory completed a perfect night with a fast time in qualifying and a heat race win. He also became the third different winner in three Sportsman Series Central Region races this season. The race started with Tyler Thompson and Davis on the front row while Marcuccilli and Nick Guerrerri were in row two. Davis grabbed the early lead while Marcuccilli and Guerrerri engaged in a hard-fought battle. "I think he was on the outside of me and I didn't see him there, so I kind of crowded him up a little bit," Marcuccilli said. "He dove down into one and made a little contact. It is what it is. You get down in there and it gets a little rough. It's no big deal." Davis took the early lead while Marcuccilli raced into second. The race was slowed for the second time on lap nine when Kyle Inman slowed on the front stretch. Davis and Marcuccilli raced side-by-side until lap 11 when Davis maintained the lead and Guererri joined the battle up front. At the halfway mark, Davis led a four-car breakway with Marcuccilli, Gurerri and the Tom Collins Jr. driven No.713. The leaders worked the bottom groove in turns one and two and the high line in the higher-banked turns three and four. On lap 22 of the 30-lap Feature, Marcuccilli reduced Davis' lead to 0.2 seconds, but the lead was erased completely a lap later when Guererri suffered mechanical issues and spun on the front stretch. The ensuing restart was the final one of the night. Davis held the top lane with Marcucilli on the bottom in a side-by-side battle. The two drivers raced that way until Marcucilli nosed ahead and cleared Davis on lap 27. Collins took advantage of the open space on the bottom as did Rocky Warner and created a three-wide battle for the lead. Collins took the runner-up spot, but had no time to track down Marcuccilli who won his fifth straight start at Outlaw. "I was catching him and I was on him and faster than him, but then we had that one caution," Marcuccilli said of Davis in Victory Lane. "After that, I was so loose. It took me forever to get back to him and when we started battling the caution came out. The caution helped. Things might have got a little dicey there in lapped traffic. To be able to battle that out with Ronnie and some great cars here is pretty awesome." The DIRTcar Sportsman Series Central Region resumes action on Wednesday, June 28 at Can-Am Motorsports Park. Sheppard Out-Duels Hearn For Five Mile Point Victory - Reigning Series Champion Earns First Win of 2017 KIRKWOOD, NY - June 11, 2017 - Matt Sheppard took the lead from Tyler Siri on lap 16 and then held off polesitter Brett Hearn throughout a flurry of late-race restarts to win the Modified 67 at Five Mile Point Speedway on Sunday night. The Waterloo, NY native had to be strong in all aspects of the race as he raced from the sixth starting position to overtake Siri and never looked back despite Hearn's numerous attempts to take over the top spot. "This thing was spot on right from the drop of the green," Sheppard said in Victory Lane. "I could just drive it straight around the racetrack like I was on the highway. It was just great from lap one. I didn't really like seeing all those caution, but just tried to kept it straight and luckily kept enough tire and brought it back to Victory Lane." Sheppard's first win this season was also the 48th of his career with the Super DIRTcar Series and it was one he had to earn. Jimmy Phelps completed the podium behind Hearn. "It feels great," Sheppard said. "We had that record-breaking season last year where it seemed like we were winning everywhere. We had a couple of good runs (to start the year), but it's definitely nice to get the first series win of the season. Hopefully we can keep rolling from here." Hearn and Siri started on the front row for the 67-lap main event. Siri used the outside lane to lead the opening circuit by a bumper before clearing Hearn for the top spot. The top four cars - Siri, Hearn, Sheppard and Stewart Friesen - raced nose-to-tail and side-by-side throughout the first 15 laps without any driver able to distance themselves. It led to a three-wide battle for the lead off corner two on lap 14 before Sheppard took the inside lane from Siri and wrestled the point position away on lap 16. Sheppard caught lapped traffic on lap 21 with Hearn lurking closely behind, but was saved from dealing with the slower cars by the second caution of the race on the same lap. Friesen used the ensuing restart to dart past Hearn and Siri for second, which allowed Sheppard to open a five car-length advantage while the battled raged on behind him. Just as Sheppard caught traffic again on lap 31, a caution flag waved for a stopped Mike Mahaney in turn four. Sheppard made the most of that restart and opened a 1.6-second advantage over Friesen at the halfway mark. At lap 40, Friesen's momentum withered as Hearn retook the second position and both Billy Decker and Phelps were able to push the No.44 to the back-end of the top-five. With 20 laps to go, a number of drivers began to experience problems with tire wear and a series of cautions slowed the race as drivers fell off the pace with flat tires, including both Decker and Siri who were destined for top-five finishes. Sheppard, however, had no issues outrunning Hearn, even on the final restart with three laps to go. Hearn kept pace and stayed within a car length of Sheppard, but couldn't gather enough momentum to make a serious challenge for the lead. "I started getting a vibration in the right-rear," Hearn said of the closing laps. "I thought we were getting a flat tire and something was going bad. It must have just been the tire wearing out. I settled into second and running just partial throttle I was able to run with him. When the track rubbered up a little bit on the bottom at the end, he was in the catbird seat." For Phelps, the third-place finish was his best this season and his second top-five of 2017. It was a much needed strong run for the Baldwinsville, NY pilot, who struggled in the series last race at Bridgeport Speedway. "We could have been a little better in qualifying to give ourselves a better starting position, but other than that I thought the car was really good," Phelps said. "By the time we got to third we were out of tire and trying to stay off of it the best we could and try to save it for the end. The car just came to life in the Feature." Sheppard's win extends his point lead atop the Super DIRTcar Series standings to 41 markers over Hearn and 53 ahead of Decker. The series will be back in action for its fourth race of the season at Outlaw Speedway on Tuesday, June 20. The night's Pole Position Raceway Fast Qualifier was Max McLaughlin who also won the night's first heat and finished fourth in the Feature. Keith Flach rounded out the top-five with his best finish this season. Tim Fuller, Billy Decker and Larry Wight also picked up heat race victories while Billy Dunn claimed the win in the 10-lap Last Chance Qualifier. Mahaney and Rich Scagliotta were the drivers eligible for the 811 Dig Safely New York redraw bonus if either could win from the 8th or 11th starting positions. Super DIRTcar Series Takes On Weedsport - Big-Block Monday Marks Third Points Event of 2017 CONCORD, NC - May 12, 2017 - The Super DIRTcar Series will make its first of three visits to Weedsport (NY) Speedway on May 22 for Big-Block Monday. The takeover of the pristine 3/8-mile oval marks the third points event on the Series' 2017 schedule. The grounds of Weedsport Speedway are home to Heinke Baldwin Racing teammates Jimmy Phelps and Max McLaughlin. Now in his second full-time season with the Super DIRTcar Series, the 17-year-old McLaughlin is chasing his first career win on the tour. McLaughlin, who works out of the HBR shop and at the track at Weedsport, knows every inch of the world-class facility. Literally. "I painted all of the walls at the racetrack Thursday," McLaughlin said. "We're working on the track to make it the best possible for the fans." McLaughlin's familiarity with the track could be the advantage he needs to secure his first Series triumph. "Every race is important to us," McLaughlin said. "We look at it the same way: we have to unload fast, qualify well, race well and finish well. We're going into every race, whether it's a series race or a weekly race, with the same mindset. We're here to win." Fans who can't make it to the track will be able to watch what is guaranteed to be another ultra-competitive event live on DIRTvision. The Series saw three different winners in its three stops at Weedsport in 2016. Defending series champion Matt Sheppard visited Victory Lane along with Gary Tomkins and Danny Johnson. Four different drivers have won in five Series races since the track underwent major renovations in 2014. Sheppard is the only repeat winner. Side-by-side racing happens naturally at Weedsport, which helps create the parity, McLaughlin said. "It's a tight racetrack," McLaughlin said. "Everybody's aiming for the bottom in [turn] one, but coming out of the corner you have a bunch of different grooves. You can race side-by-side at Weedsport pretty easily. It's a really racey track." The recent renovations at Weedsport have made it a state-of-the-art dirt track recognized across North America. The track's LED lighting system, open concourse area and live video board have made it a fan favorite racing destination and the drivers have taken notice of the full grandstands, McLaughlin said. "Every big race you come to, the fans are packed in," McLaughlin said. "That's awesome in itself. For a local short track like Weedsport to have that many fans, it means a lot not only for the track, but for the sport. I think [the facility] brings in a lot of people who aren't racing fans and makes them racing fans." Ryan Watt Earns First Career Super DIRTcar Series Win - Bridgeport Champion Defends Home Turf SWEDESBORO, NJ - May 17, 2017 - Ryan Watt inherited the lead when Rick Laubach suffered a flat tire on lap 10 and dominated the remaining 50 laps to earn his first career Super DIRTcar Series win in the Friends of Mike 'The Finale' Feature at Bridgeport Speedway on Tuesday night. Watt, a native of Boyertown, PA and the reigning Bridgeport track champion, defended his home turf while earning the 811 Dig Safely New York redraw bonus for holding off Billy Pauch and Stewart Friesen to win from the eighth starting position. "I can't thank my crew enough," Watt said in Victory Lane. "We wanted to run this Bicknell (Racing Products) car and we were waiting for the Enders motor. We got the call last week that it was done and made a trip up to Brewerton. We came home Saturday and the guys busted their butts to get this thing together. Who would have though it would end this way?" Initially, it looked as though third-starting Rick Laubach of Quakertown, PA was going to be the car to beat. After Billy Pauch Jr. of Frenchtown, NJ brought the field to the green flag with Peter Britten of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia on the outside of the front row, Laubach darted past Pauch Jr. on lap three to take over the top spot. He held that position until lap 10, when he rolled to a stop on the front straightaway with a flat left-rear tire. Laubach returned to the track with a fresh sneaker and eventually worked his way back to sixth before suffering another flat tire on lap 30. As a result of his trouble, Laubach received the Speedy First Aid Hard Luck Award. Watt, who quickly made his way forward, was handed the lead when Laubach was forced to the pit area the first time and just moments after passing Neil Williams of Pittsgrove, NJ for the runner-up spot. After a slow start, Watt found his groove and knew he had a strong car as he battled into the top-five. "The fuel load really made it tight in the beginning and getting stuck on the outside wasn't good for me either," Watt explained. "We actually lost two spots and we were 10th. On the (first restart), we picked off quite a few spots and the car was just getting better and better." Watt had to endure several restarts once he had the lead before green flag runs of 14 and 22 laps throughout the middle of the race allowed drivers to create space and discover what was in their arsenal. During the latter stretch, Watt's lead grew as large as 3.8 seconds over Billy Pauch Sr. of Frenchtown, NJ. It was cut in half while Watt worked through lapped traffic during the final 15 laps and completely erased by a caution with two laps to go that setup a green-white-checkered finish. "At the end, I could tell (the track) started taking rubber," Watt said. "I tried to pass some lapped cars on the outside and it wasn't working so I had to move back down to the rubber. The car was actually starting to get a little bit tight in the rubber, so I did not want to see that caution. I wasn't sure what it was going to do on the restart, but once the tires cooled down, the thing was good." Watt left no doubt he was the superior car on the night, pulling ahead of Pauch Sr. to a 1.4-second margin of victory. Pauch Sr.'s second-place finish was hard-fought, after he held-off a late surge from Friesen. "We were pretty good tonight," Pauch Sr. said. "I was just really on tire conservation. I didn't think we were going to make it to the end because I had heat race tires on and I really had it grooved up. I forgot about it. I really didn't think I would make the end of the race and I'm really thankful I did." The 11th-starting Friesen was a quick-mover early on, advancing to fourth by the time of the lap four restart. He bounced around the top-five throughout the race though and was unable to challenge for the lead. Eventually he passed both Williams and Brett Kressley of Orefield, PA to claim the final podium spot. "When they prepped the track at intermission it made it kind of slick for us, kind of greasy," Friesen said. "We got a good bite on the bottom and were able to catch a bunch of guys sleeping at the start and kind of weasel our way up there. Then we got on the outside and cycled back. I'm happy with third. We battled through this one. Watty was fast all night long. The times in his heat races were unbelievable so he was due for one here." Williams and reigning series champion Matt Sheppard of Waterloo, NY rounded out the top-five. Frank Cozze of Wind Gap, PA started the night off with Pole Position Raceway Fast Time Award in group time trials with a lap of 20.717 seconds around the 5/8-mile oval. Cozze's night ended on a lap 12 restart when he tangled with Britten and was taken off the track via a tow truck. Qualifying heat races went to Cozze, Pauch Jr., Watt; Laubach, and Billy Decker of Unadilla, NY. Keith Flach earned the KSE Hard Charger by advancing 17 positions from 32nd to 15th in the Feature. Decker Scores Third-Straight Highbank Hold-Up Win at Fulton - Sheppard earns runner-up spot after starting 11th FULTON, NY - April 29, 2017 - Billy Decker raced from the sixth-starting position to take the lead from outside polesitter Brett Hearn on lap 46 and held off a surging Matt Sheppard to claim his third straight Highbank Holdup 100 victory with the Super DIRTcar Series at Fulton Speedway on Saturday night. After taking the lead, Decker battled through lapped traffic to build a lead over Hearn. He then had to contend with Sheppard, who rallied from the 11th starting spot to take the runner-up position on lap 56. Decker defended against the reigning champion's efforts, particularly over the final 10 laps, to secure his first Series win since last year's edition of the event on April 30, 2016. "It was tough sledding," Decker said of the battles throughout the race. "I think if you were rolling you could go pretty good. Matt (Sheppard) came a long way and there was a lot of dicing. I could really carry some speed through the center of the turn and I think that's what did it." Before Decker paced the field, Billy Whittaker and Hearn brought the 30-car field to the green flag for the Series' season opening points race. Whittaker paced the field over the first four laps until Hearn assumed the point on lap five. Decker quickly made his presence felt though, as he immediately jumped into the top-five and by lap 12 was challenging Jimmy Phelps for second. At lap 30, Hearn, Phelps and Decker raced nose-to-tail in a thrilling three-car battle for the lead. Meanwhile, Sheppard methodically paced his way forward and took third from Phelps before the halfway point and set out to track down the leader Decker and second-place runner Hearn. The only caution of the race came on lap 62, after Sheppard had taken over the second spot, when Tim Sears Jr. spun his No.83 at the bottom of turn two. Sheppard wasn't able to use the outside lane on the restart to get by Decker, but Phelps rallied to retake the third spot and relegated Hearn to fourth. From there, Decker enjoyed a five car-length lead under the watchful eye of Sheppard until 20 laps to go when Decker wandered back into lapped traffic Inside the final 10 laps, Decker nearly gifted the win to Sheppard when he slipped up the track in turn three, but regrouped without losing the top spot. "The last 20 laps I got a little bit tight," Decker said. "I went to put a move on the 22-car (of Brandon Walters) in lapped traffic and Matt got underneath us. I learned my lesson pretty quick there." Sheppard made a final push over the last five laps after the top two had separated from third-place Phelps by a half lap. Sheppard couldn't muster enough momentum to steal the victory. "He was a little better at times and I think I was a little better at times," Sheppard said of Decker. "We didn't draw the best redraw number tonight, but we had a really good racecar. It's a great night for us and a great start to the series. It was a fun race and the track was really nice tonight." Sheppard nearly capitalized on a $100 bonus as the eleventh starter courtesy of 811 Dig Safely New York. Eighth starting Bobby Varin was the other driver eligible for the award. Phelps rounded-out the podium while Hearn and Larry Wight completed the top-five. "We missed it a little bit, but this was our first race of the year," Phelps said. "We did a bunch of testing, but we haven't gotten to apply it. We were close. We took off pretty decent, but we just needed to be better about 30 laps in after everybody's tires cycled in. To be able to start the season off on the right foot close to home in front of the best fans on dirt is good." Decker nearly started the season with a perfect night. He earned the Pole Position Raceway Fast Time award with a lap of 16.485 seconds around the 3/8-mile oval. Hearn bested Decker by one spot to win heat one. Whittaker, Wight and Pat Ward were the other heat winners. Alan Johnson earned the KSE Hard Charger award after racing from 21st to 8th. Johnson won the first Last Chance Qualifier while Chad Phelps won the other. Garry Tomkins, the first driver to exit the race on lap 22, was the recipient of the Speedy First Aid Hard Luck award. While the Super DIRTcar Series does not return Fulton Speedway in 2017, the series will be close by at Oswego Speedway during the 46th NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week October 4-8, 2017. The Super DIRTcar Series' next event is at Bridgeport Speedway in Sweedsboro, NJ on Tuesday, May 16. Sanction withdrawn from Thaw Brawl, Penalties Issued CONCORD, N.C. - April 24, 2017 - Officials from DIRTcar Racing, Mars, DIRTcar Series, and American Late Model Series have withdrawn the event sanction from the March 24, 2017 Thaw Brawl at La Salle Speedway. The Friday races of the multi series special event were completed, however, track management allowed a DIRTcar suspended race team to participate in defiance of the sanctioning bodies warning. Despite the loss of sanction, officials determined teams in attendance will be awarded championship points for the respective series. In further actions, DIRTcar Racing has issued a fine and penalty to Late Model driver Josh Richards for filing a deceptive entry and an additional penalty to Best Performance for participating while under a DIRTcar Suspension. Finally, sanction applications for La Salle Speedway will not be accepted and all DIRTcar events at the Illinois facility have been removed from the schedule. The Summer Nationals Opening weekend two-day event on Friday and Saturday June 16 and 17 will move to an alternative facility.

Hearn Double Dips at DIRTcar Nationals - Grabs the DIRTcar Nationals Finale and Championship BARBERVILLE, F.L - Feb. 26, 2017 - Brett 'The Jet' Hearn picked up his tenth DIRTcar Nationals victory with the Super DIRTcar Series at Volusia Speedway Park on Saturday night. The veteran driver from Sussex, N.J. took the lead from the start and never looked back to take the $5,000 payday in the 40-lap finale, also staking claim to the DIRTcar Nationals championship. "The guys at the Madsen Overhead Door shop are going to have to build a bigger shelf," Hearn said in Victory Lane. "It was a super, awesome team effort. We came down here and fine tuned on this thing, it's a brand new car." Young gun Max McLaughlin of Mooresville, N.C. and the veteran Hearn started on the front row following a pre-race redraw. On lap one, Hearn drove to the outside into turn three and claimed the top spot from McLaughlin coming out of turn four, setting sail with the early lead. In a race that had three yellow flags, the first on lap 10 saw a over a half-dozen drivers duck down pit road for adjustments to their Big-Block Modifieds. The ensuing restart set up a fierce battle between McLaughlin and Matt Sheppard of Waterloo, N.Y. for the runner-up spot as they swapped positions for several laps. There was a glimmer of hope for the second- and third-place runners when Hearn caught the back of the pack on lap 23, allowing McLaughlin and Sheppard a shot at the top spot. With the second yellow flag on lap 26, Sheppard relinqiuished the third position to come down pit road for a new right-rear tire. Tim Fuller got into the mix after he got by Peter Britten for third place, Fuller then set his sights on second-place McLaughlin. Fuller put pressure on McLaughlin on the final restart as he drove under him for second. That left the door open for Danny Johnson as he followed in pursuit on lap 33 to take third place. It was too late as Hearn was way out front en route to his first victory of the 2017 season. "You're always on edge," Hearn said. "It was nice to see those couple of yellows come out and get some open track. It made my life a little bit easier." At the finish, Hearn claimed the DIRTcar Nationals finale over Fuller, Johnson, McLaughlin and Britten. "The track crew did a great job giving us a multi-lane track tonight," said Hearn in Victory Lane. "I have to say thanks to them for their efforts." Fuller, now the driver of the Graham Racing No. 19, capped off the night with a second-place finish. "I think we got better as the race went on," Fuller said. "I have to thank Ray Graham for starting this new team. I think it's a good start for us. It's only a sign of things to come. Brett was pretty strong, but I think we were pretty equal. If we got into some lapped traffic, we could have seen who was more versatile." Following the Super DIRTcar Series 40-lap feature was a non-qualifiers Big-Block Modified feature. O'Neal Wins the Feature at the DIRTcar Nationals Finale - Clanton wins DIRTcar Nationals Championship BARBERVILLE, FL- February 26, 2017- Don O'Neal of Martinsville, Ind., a veteran racer in action since 1988, has been one of the biggest names without a World of Outlaws Craftsman® Late Model Series victory. That changed in his 53rd career feature start when O'Neal finally took a coveted trip to Victory Lane during the bookend to the 46th Annual DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park on Saturday night. Heading into the 40-lap Craftsman Club Feature, the buzz was about what tire compound the teams would choose. It was ultimately Don O'Neal who chose the right combination. "We've had a good car," said O'Neal. "The Peak Anti-Freeze team with Crawford Outdoor, Cometic Gasket, and Penske Shocks car has been good all Speedweeks, there just wasn't anything going our way. Tonight, it did." O'Neal was a man on a mission all night. Locking up the final transfer spot from his heat put him 13th on the feature starting grid. O'Neal made quick work of the cars in front of him and used a lap 15 restart to take the lead from polesitter Dennis Erb Jr. of Carpentersville, Ill. who had led every lap to that point. "We had a harder tire on then most of those guys," said Erb Jr., who finished seventh. "A lot of those guys gambled with that soft tire. We took the green early and everyone stayed in that line around the bottom. My car was working really good there. Everything was going good until that yellow came out. Then everybody got chasing the brown, [tacky dirt] around the top and those soft tire were able to pull away from me. We definitely got beat on tires tonight." Tim McCreadie of Watertown, NY jumped to the second position the same lap as O'Neal took over the point and steadily gained ground on the leader. On lap 38 in the midst of heavy lapped traffic, O'Neal nearly got into the turn two wall. The slip up by O'Neal allowed McCreadie an attempt for a last lap pass bringing the crowd surrounding the World's Fastest Half-Mile to their feet. "I was warming my tires up on the outside and I thought 'this feels so much better than the bottom did on that first 14-lap run" said McCreadie. "Don, he's a professional and he found the traction before I did. I moved up and thought we could run with him, but at the end I think he had the best car. He made one little mistake at the end there and it gave us a chance. We hadn't run this car yet and we ran it for three nights. We got a second and a third out of it." O'Neal claimed a desired Gator trophy and $10,000 but it was Shane Clanton who took home the king of them all, the Big Gator as DIRTcar Nationals Late Model champion. "We missed it a little bit tonight, but it's a testament to how hard we worked all week," said Clanton "To run top-five three nights and just miss it a little bit tonight and run where we did (13th), we had a shot." Before the stretch at DIRTcar Nationals, series veteran Clanton explained the importance of coming out of the Georgia-Florida jaunt ahead in the standings. "If you come out of Florida on top then it's easy to stay on top, if you come up behind then it's hard to dig yourself out of that hole," said Clanton. "It's important to have a good run because it will boost the whole season and [at this point] who knows who will be running good." Headed out of DIRTcar Nationals, Brandon Sheppard is the leader in the 2017 World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series Points Standings followed by Rick Eckert who is only a mere four points behind. For the last two years the driver who headed out of DIRTcar Nationals highest in points ultimately won the Championship Title at the end of the year. Haers Holds off Sheppard and Claims DIRTcar Nationals Victory - Brings home the first gator of the week for the Super DIRTcar Series By Mandee Pauch BARBERVILLE, F.L - Feb. 25, 2017 - The hot shoe out of Phelps, N.Y., Justin Haers, picked up his second career DIRTcar Nationals victory after holding off the 22nd starter, Matt Sheppard in Friday night's 30-lap Super DIRTcar Series feature event at Volusia Speedway Park. "We had a really good car from the drop of the green," Haers said in Victory Lane. "It seemed like I'd get in the wrong part of the restart wanting to be on the bottom but kept restarting on top. I just found the [bottom groove] in turn three and four and I could just hook it really good. The car was was unbelievable, top, bottom, it didn't matter where I wanted it." Mario Clair and Alan Johnson led the 26-car field to the green flag. Clair showed a dominant lead early on until Jimmy Horton started to put pressure on the No. 96c. Clair and Horton battled back-and-fourth for several laps until Clair suddenly fell off the pace, forfeiting the top spot to Horton on lap 21 due to a broken right-rear shock. It wasn't long until Haers was knocking on Horton's back bumper. As Haers closed in on Horton, the No. 43 machine started to smoke tremendously with just five laps remaining. Horton's night expired after coming to a stop on the track on lap 27 due to a loose oil line, giving Haers the top spot. "I give [Horton] credit. He ran the hell out of that thing," said Haers. "The smoke was so bad I didn't want to get behind him and have something break on the motor and come back and hit me or something. So I was trying to just stay below him a little bit." Sheppard, the defending Super DIRTcar Series champion, worked his way through the last chance showdown and started 22nd in the feature. With three laps remaining in the feature, Sheppard made his presence known and was soon knocking on Haers doors threatening for the win. Haers was able to hold off Sheppard and pulled away to take home the first Super DIRTcar Series victory of 2017 during the DIRTcar Nationals. "This is probably the coolest trophy that's out there," Haers said. "I've got [one gator] and now I've got another one to bring home." "These racecars are a matter of just getting some laps," said runner-up finisher, Matt Sheppard. "Trying to get the track to slow down a little bit, it wasn't looking good there for a long time. It seemed like the longer the race went the better we got. I thought I may have had a shot at Justin at the end but he was really good and we kind of ran out of tear-offs there but it was nice from where we started to come from the back and get second." The 2016 Super DIRTcar Series Rookie of the Year, Max McLaughlin showed his skills as he capped off the night with a podium finish. "I kind of made a mistake setup wise but I'll take the blame," McLaughlin said. "The car was really good all night. I ran out of tear-offs with about five to go so I was driving blind. Luckily we ended up third and will go at it again tomorrow." The Super DIRTcar Series will be back in action at Volusia Speedway Park for the DIRTcar Nationals on Saturday, Feb. 25th.
