  1. Not sure where Sonny is these days. I know the name but do no no him personally. I grew up at Meyer with my Dad racing there and now race at HMP. There are a bunch of Meyer speedway racers still around that you can see and talk to at HMP on race days. Chevk the HMP scheduled for Nascar Saturday racing events.
  2. Mike, As for the #7 white Super that you ask about. This car was bought by Fred and driven by Bill Blumrick and Bill White back in the day. My Dad was real good friends with Fred and Dad and I often went by Mr. Furlows plumbing shop where he kept and worked on his cars. The 7 car was stolen from the plumbing co early one Suday morning asI remember and the car was found cut to pieces for scrap not long thereafter. Mr Furlow then purchased the Orange 45 car and Bill White and Ival cooper drove teh car from there. As to the whereabouts of the 45 car I do not have a cue what happened and I ask my Dad and he does not know either. My Dad owns the 3 SUper that ran a Meyer, Jackson, Mobile, Pcola, Baton Rouge and SAn Antonio from 69 to 77. I am currently restoring this car and sure would like to find some others like the 45 and the old yellow super that XClay reeves owned and Hugh Richards drove but I heard in one post that that car destroyed in Florida in a big race in the late 70s. if you go to the Mrs.Chicken site you will se the old 44 car that is the sister car to the 45 and they may have some info. My Dad was good friends with Ikey back in the day when they raced together and I was wondering if he is still alive and if he still had the old hite car.
  3. Sonny, You are correct about the picture of the 7 car. It was owned at the time of the photo by Fred Furlow. The man in the cockpit is Bob Brown who was a a top notch machinist/engeineer back in the day and made a bunch of the customer parts for my Dads (Red Garner) Fred Furlow and Billy Perrins race cars. The man unstrapping the car on the right front is my Dad Red Garner and I do not se Billy Perrin in the picture. I am going to have to ask my Dad when this was and why he was working on Freds car on not his car. I do now that in this thread there is a picture of this car in all blue. You are correct is memory serves me right that this was originally the 99 of Wayne Niedeken Sr. By the way what happened to this car?
  4. The main framerails had to be from an American made production car. I will have to ask dad what these were because I do not remember. The body also had to be American production and could be cut down as long as they were not wider then the frame. In this case dad took 4 1962 Ford Falcon fenders butted them side to side end to end and made the A and B pillers out of sheet metal with the roof being made out of a piece of Buick trunk. As I stated in a previous post Ed Hamlin the promoter from Meyer speedway told Dad that he could not race this car because it was Billy Perrins USAC Sprinter. Dad told Ed that they would prove him wrong. The next week Billy brought the sprint car out and DAD had the 4 falconed fendered car on the trailer behind the sprint car. Ed allowed the car to race and it set the track record and won won over 20 features that year (1968).
  5. The Falcon bodied car - was that really a Supermodified? How did they let him run against the Modifieds? This was the 1st of the Super mods for Meyer speedway. This was the NASCAR version that stated the car had to be made of an Ameerican made body. Most of the other Mod drivers just cut there bodies down in size and raced there old modifieds in 1967 and 68.
  6. Mason its David From the 33 pro mod you going to TMS this weekend

  7. HEY JIM, SORRY TO GET IN ON THIS TOPIC SO LATE BUT I HAVE BEEN OUT OF TOWN AND JUST CAME BACK IN TO READ SOME POSTS. ANYWAY DAD RAN A 4.56 & 4.88 @ MEYER IN THE LAST SUPER HE RACED AND HE RAN A 4.11 (QUICK CHANGE) @ JACKSON, MOBILE AND PENSICOLA. YOU CAN CONFIRM THAT WITH HIM BUT THOSE CARS DID NOT NEED AS MUCH GEAR AS THE OLD MODIFIED COUPES. THE OLD COUPES WERE HEAVY COMPAIRED TO THE SUPERS. I DO NOT REMEMBER WHAT THE OLD COUPES WIEGHED BUT THE LAST SUPER DAD RACED ONLY WIEGHED 1300 LBS FULL OF FUEL AND HAD A 377 SBC WITH OVER 700 HP.
  8. IF THE CORRECT SET OF RULES WERE INFORCED LIKE IN THE NORTHEAST (ISMA) THAT RUN AT LEE AND OSWEGO SPEEDWAYS (SMALL BLOCK CRATE ENGINE) IT WOULD BE CHEAPER THAN ANY LATE MODEL OR FOR THAT MATTER THE MODIFIED I RACE NOW. IT WOULD CERTAINLY BE MORE FUN TO BUILD AND RACE AGAINST OTHER CREATIONS THAT ALL OF US ARE CAPABLE OF BUILDING. IF YOU LOOK IN THE RACING JUNK.COM CLASSIFIEDS UNDER ASPHAULT MODIFIEDS YOU CAN BUY A COMPLETE SUPER FOR UNDER 20K. I PERSONALLY WOULD LOVE TO FIND A GROUP WILLING TO START BUILDING AND RACING SUPERS AGAIN IN THE SOUTH. IM IN WHO ELSE WANTS TO PLAY? DON'T BE SCARED NOW........
  9. JIM, YOU MIGHT WANT TO CONFIRM WITH DAD, BUT FROM WHAT I REMEMBER IT WAS A LACK OF TRACKS IN THE SOUTH AND THE ASSOCIATION COULD NOT COME UP WITH A FAIR SET OF RULES. AS I REMEMBER IT THE CARS LIKE DADS WERE THE CONVENTIONAL UPRIGHT STADDLE THE DRIVESHAFT TYPE CARS AND THEN YOU HAD THE ENGINE OFFSET ALL THE WAY TO THE LEFT (OSWEGO SUPERS) AND THEN YOU HAD THE REAR ENGINE CARS. I DO REMEMBER DAD AND THE OTHER OWNERS MAKING SIGNIFICANT RULE CHANGES TO TRY AND EQUALIZE THE PLAYING FIELD BUT ABOUT THE TIME THEY GOT THAT PART SORTED OUT, MEYER SHUT DOWN AND THE OTHER TRACKS (MOBILE, JACKSON AND PENSICOLA) QUIT RUNNING THE SUPERS AND ALL THE REAR ENGINE AND (OSWEGO) TYPE CARS STARTED RACING IN THE NORTHEAST. THE DALLAS OUTLAW SPRINT CARS CAME AND RACED WITH US THERE AT THE END BUT THEY WERE NOT THAT COMPETITIVE AND ALL WENT BACK TO THE DEVILS BOWL. AGAIN YOU CAN GET MORE DETAILS FROM DAD.
  10. THAT WAS ONE HELL OF A DRIVER (IVAL COOPER) AND MR FRED FURLOW. MY DAD USE TO TAKE HIS SUPER TO FREDS PLUMBING CO AND THEY WOULD START THERE CARS OFF OF RIPLEY CIRCLE AFTER THEY INSTALLED THERE NEW ENGINES. SURE IS GOOD TO SEE SOME OF THESE PICS. IT MAKES ME REALIZE WHY I HAVE STAYED IN THE SPORT AS LONG AS I HAVE. WE MAY COMPLAIN OF BUILDING WRECKING AND REPAIRING OUR RACE CARS BUT THE MOST IMPORTANT PART IS ALL THE MEMORIES THAT WE CREATE AND FRIENDS WE MAKE ALONG THE WAY.
  11. IF I'M NOT MISTAKEN OUR LAST SUPER MOD RACE AT METER WAS THE SUMMER OF 77. THAT IS THE LAST TIME DAD RACED HIS SUPER AT MEYER AND JUST SHORTLY AFTER THAT MEYER SHUT DOWN. WE RACED THE CAR AT JACKSON OR MOBILE ONE MORE TIME BUT THE ASSOCIATION FOLDED IN 77. ALL THE REST OF THE DRIVERS (PAGE REYNOLDS, JIM MC CLARREN, BUTCH HARRIS, RICKY AND RONNIE OTTS AND LEROY HALFIN) STARTED RACING THERE SUPERS AT OSWEGO AND OTHER TRACKS UP EAST AND ALOT OF THE SOUTHERN DRIVERS (IKKY JEROME, BILL RONYON, HUGH RICHARDS, IVAL COOPER AND WAYNE NYDECKEN) ALL WENT BACK TO TRACKS IN MISSISSIPPI, ALABAMA AND FLORIDA ON BOTH DIRT AND ASPHAULT. I BELIEVE THE ONLY DRIVERS STILL ALIVE THAT WENT DOWN SOUTH RACING ARE HUGH RICHARDS AND IKKY JEROME. IVAL DIED IN A SPRINT CAR RACE AT MOBILE WHEN HE WENT OFF THE BACK STAIGHT AWAY AND LANDED IN THE PINE TREES AND I READ AN ARTICLE ABOUT BILL RONYON AND WAYNE NIEDEKEN SR. JUST PASSING AWAY NOT LONG AGO. WAYNE SR HAS A SON WAYNE NIEDEKEN JR WHO IS A HOT SHOE AT MOBILE AND PENSICOLA THAT RACES JUST ABOUT ANYTHING AND WINS. AS FOR THE DRIVERS FROM TEXAS THAT WENT TO THE EAST COAST, I BELIVE THEY ARE ALL STILL ALIVE AND WELL.
  12. THE RER ENGINE CAR IS BUTCH HARRIS AND THE DRIVER OF THE 44 WAS WAYNE NIEDEKEN. THESE 4 PICS WERE TAKEN IN 1973, THE 122 AND 121 HUGH RICHARDS AND RAT LANE WERE TAKEN AT MEYER AND THE 44 AND REAR ENGINE CAR WHICH WAS 24 WERE TAKEN AT MOBILE.
  13. here are some more supers from Houston [resized and reformated by Nick Holt, 6/27/08]
  14. JIM, YOU MIGHT WANT TO ASK DAD ABOUT THE HEADERS ON THE FALCON FENDERED CAR WHEN HE RAN THE HOLMAN MOODY 427 FORD BUT I BELIEVE THAT IS WHAT HM TOLD HIM TO RUN BACK THEN. I'M SURE DAD CAN GIVE THE REAL SCOOP. IT MIGHT HAVE EVEN BEEN LUTHERS IDEA TO RUN THE SHORT TUBES.
