It's a Texan heat wave (😉) - or - when you're hot, you're hot!
From what I read in the Richmond race recounts (since the race didn't appear to be on broadcast TV), RFK could very well have run 1-2 had Keselowski not muffed a pit stop - so the win and 4th is not too terribly surprising.

Of all the races I've seen lap cutting doesn't happen very often. I have to say most of the ones they cut fans were begging to end it so we could move on to the next race! Race Ranch started the season with single file restarts and I hated them. Lately they have gone back to double file unless they can't get started after two tries. Much better.
SINGLE FILE STARTS should only in the last laps .. but some glasses cant even get a start after three tries sometimes .of have way to many yellows .. u still need to get the race in at a certain time to keep poeple comeing back .. but single everytime just cheapens the races and unfair to those who are not part of the yellows in my books ..

This is great. I was born in 1954. Met a young neighbor today who parks his trailer and race car in my view in the apartment in which I live in CC, TX. I was telling him today about a track that I thought was way out Greenwood in the previous century. I took my young boys there in the 1980's. One class of race was Pinto cars, each with a large stuffed animal on the outside. Now I have my answer. I am thinking a downhole hazardous waste facility was built near the track location. An acquaintance, Joel, died there trying to save another employee.
RIVER SIDE SPEEDWAY . i ran on that track in 85 ..at one time it was a motor bike track two of my brothers raced on it .i was not good on motorbikes like them .. ricky and rodney mccain . then i think for a short time mud trucks ran there .. then it was turned into 3,8s mile dirt as i knew the name sometime i n the late 70s i think ...

Well, not totally false, Reb.
When I was the motorsports editor for The San Antonio Light (one of two major daily newspapers back in the day), NASCAR pulled my press credentials over an article I wrote about NASCAR's pit lane policy. At the time, there was no speed limit on pit road and folks were getting hurt frequently during pit road incidents. I called for a speed limit and other changes that have since been implemented.
NASCAR did not contact me directly, but rather wrote a certified letter to the Editor informing them that I was no longer welcome at NASCAR events.
Around the same time, they pulled a similar stunt on Sports Illustrated. But their editor went publicly ballistic and NASCAR soon backed down, restoring both Sports Illustrated and my credentials - but without an apology.
i think u must have been dreaming ..nick .. nascar running u off .. . i find that hard to believe .. no ill take that back ..

I absolutely believe that it's a good thing. I have a Masters in marketing, so sure I believe getting the drivers out there touting the greatness of NASCAR. And it looks like NASCAR is going to invest millions for this program, if it comes to pass. So that begs the question, why haven't they done this before? They have a large public relations/marketing department, and make millions each year. I'm sure that someone in those departments have thought of this before. If not, maybe they shouldn't be there. So why now? Why is it a good thing & proactive now, but not once before in the last decade, or more? Unfortunately, I've seen enough things (some good, some bad) get floated before from NASCAR. One thing I've learned from those past events, NASCAR RARELY acts beyond what's good for NASCAR. If NASCAR is going to do something, you can bet that it's probably in their best interest, or they're being forced to act. Even if safety is involved.
In 2000, NASCAR lost 3 drivers to the exact same thing, basil skull fractures. Do you think that they hadn't already figured out what was causing that? They've been taking every car that has a fatal to their facilities for a long time now. All the while extolling the great safety of their cars. When NASCAR was sanctioning the Winter Heat series at Tucson Raceway Park, in the late 90s, they impounded Chris Saylor's car, when they thought he was going to die from his injuries. Thankfully Chis survived, and his dad got the car back about a month later. When John Baker was killed at Irwindale Speedway during a Southwest Tour race, they impounded his too. John's wife didn't get his car back for a long time, because she was seeing NASCAR & Irwindale. I don't know how much the settlement was, but there were 2 commas on the check his brother said. I also know that K&K Insurance (yeah the same K&K that used to sponsor the #71 in Cup for several seasons), pulled Irwindale's insurance coverage. John was the third fatality there in 3 seasons. After making the changes that K&K required there, they got to reopen. When Dale was killed, his car was also impounded. They didn't give that one up for a long time. They tried to convince the public that Dale's death was because of Bill Simpson's seatbelts. This was a guy that has done more for driver safety over the last 5 decades, than any other single person. He was so incensed over these allegations, that he sold the company and started legal filings against NASCAR. Once he was able to prove that his products, he started another driver safety company, Impact.
With this new car, early on last season, drivers were complaining that impacts that were considered very minor in the old car, was really hurting them. We had what 3 different drivers hurt from rear impacts, causing concussions. Finally after enough crashes this year, they have changed the rear clip. Thankfully, after Larson & Preece's crash at Talladega, they didn't wait very long to make some major changes to the front clip & the right door bars. Kyle Larson was a very lucky man that day. I haven't seen a cockpit intrusion like that in years. Just from looking at the quick tv video shots, I saw 3 door bars that broke. I think it scared NASCAR too thankfully.
All that was said to say this. Never underestimate NASCAR's ability to act in their best interest first, always..
nascar can pay me to paint my truck or wrap it with thier logo . U HAVE time to see my truck as i go by .i am not in such a hury anymore .. and have more time just to run around .but money talk bs walks ..

A couple things....There was a shit ton of rumors floating around about this recently from all the displaced drag racers in the San Antonio area....Everything from a new area track to drag racing at COTA....Sadly just more disappointment after the SAR/ACM debacle..... Then there was the "story" of resurrecting the corner of Watson Road/Hwy 16 to a drag strip and 1/4 mile circle track.....Of course that turned out to be just smoke out their ass....The only viable solution I've seen/read is a deal Hugh Garteiser tried to implement on FB....Last I heard he hadn't even gotten a tenth of the investors(5K ea.) to begin to look for a suitable place to build a new track....I gave he and John Villenueve a list of old deserted air strips that Texas Tom passed along to me as possible existing sites....It's a shame this area can't sustain a track, of any kind it seems.....I grew close enough to drag strip that you could hear it in the quiet of the night, and was able to ride my bicycle there as a 14 yr old.
Now to BMP.....Looks like they face the same extinction as the dinosaurs, uummmmm, other race tracks have.....Freaking urban expansion.....Hopefully, though I don't believe it, these two developments can co-exist in peace and harmony......FAT CHANCE!
.. have alot of open land around corpus . ed roy mathis all on 37 .. but corpus is far away from parts of texas .. .. in some of those areas u will not find much reason for urban expansion .. . plenty of land between mathis and skidmore on 359 ... . u can drive right down that highway from anywhere ..

COME on reb why did u have to trash up speedzone with disrespect using bidens name .. .........but i agree with u .... .

Don't get me started on 1/4 midgets. I ran them for years and we did it on a budget and we were good and competitive without cheating. I am trying to find a good starter car for my son that i can go through first before he starts making laps and everyone wants 3500 to 5000 for a car and a car that is multiple years old. I don't really care how many championships the car has won or who drove it that doesn't mean my kid is going to be an automatic contender but there are parents that believe that BS that if they buy that car they are automatically going to be a winner. I'm to the point where I am going to buy a junior sprint since he can start racing at 6 in that and i can get a bigger car with the same motor and start racing dirt right away.
MAN how that is a true statement .i bought a 2 time champion car in 89 i got it cheap and someone else wrote the check . . no changes made by the owner i bought it from .. fast car with a slow driver . the car never fit me i raced it most of the season and just never got a handle or ill say use to the handling style of the car and there was nothing wrong with the car . just the monkey behind the wheel . i ASKED ANother driver TO take it out just to see if it was me . he ran 2 seconds faster that i on the first lap .he had a simular set up on his car .. . i went back to my old home grown throw together racecar and won alot of races or ran top three alot of races .. so buying a top winning car does not make u a winner ..

There is no easy answer to the astronomical costs associated with asphalt short track racing. Claim rules have failed in many cases. Track owners are justifiably concerned about losing its "top teams" if the rule is strictly and consistently enforced.
One proven way to make a class more cost effective while evening out the competition is to go with a "one-tire-a-week" rule. At San Antonio Speedway the rule generated increased car counts and closer competition when tires were the limiting factor. Were the well-financed teams happy with the rule? Absolutely not. But when the whole field was on equal tires, much of the expensive engine/drive-train stuff was basically useless since they couldn't get all that power to the ground due to the tire wear from previous weeks.
Another way is to issue store-bought shocks to all teams and have them removed from every car after every feature event. Dyno a few of the shocks from top running teams each time and randomly reissue the shocks to teams before race events.
Nick
U BEEN THERE NICK .. 24 nomo keeps saying he does not have a dog in this fight. lol .. yet he keeps getting into the fight.. someone i suppose never owned a car raced a car built a car financed a car .. or even sat in one .. . i agree with nick on tires . the only thing designed to touch the track .. lost alot of races against tires , i could not afford a new set every weekend more than one set as some did .... but that gave me the chance to buy pulls and at some times i could buy one new tire to go with the one or two nighters so least kept me in the running many a time and a few wins ..sure makes u work hard at handling and more so driving to get the best of what u had with out buying the best handling items .... the best drivers come up that wayin racing take the least but make it work . .. . rick rapp comes to mind .. i learned alittle from ihim . i won alot of races with junk ..

There's a 5th category. I was at SAS at 3 weeks old, I think I fit into the old-timer category even at 37 but NASCAR had gotten monotonous and boring so I stopped watching. What brought me back really was the trucks on dirt...then the road courses...then Cup on dirt and on and on. Now I try to watch most every race again (as long as RaceonTexas doesn't have something). I watched Chicago and enjoyed it thoroughly. The 5th category is old-timers actually interested in what NASCAR is doing now.
WOW 37 .shoot u are still wet behind the ears .young man .. i got u on 30 more .nick well he has me by .i cant count that high takes to long ..

Tough situation. The money guys run what they want, and if they get claimed, they refuse and they are never coming back. The track loses a car or two and probably a sponsor. Maybe the claim rule should be the part is confiscated if they do not comply. Maybe that is more of a deterrent than a DQ.
IF U LOSE A CAR a driver and team that wont pass tech or care to . U lost nothing .. u gain in the end when drivers notice the track is not playing any games .and i would want to race there .. if u are worried about a car or two not coming back over not passing tech .you should not be running a race track .. this is coming from an actual use to be car owner builder driver and team mates to others ... till i retired from racing of late ... i care not to race at any track who will not tech who will not penalize .

My dad ran IMCA cars at Lone Star, Rose Bowl and Thunder Hill in Jacksonville with the claim rule, and it really did police things a lot. I remember he'd go to the used car auction and bring all these $500 trucks home to steal the motors out of them for that class, haha.
There are 16 million folks within an hour of HMP, the take rate on participation shows the costs involved need to be re-evaluated. I think the shock claim rule is a good idea, but some fine tuning. Didn't help that the rulebook hasn't been updated yet since the hastily copy-pasted one that has some parts that aren't fully written or developed in it, Owen and Karl are great but they're rebuilding what was never really built in the first place. I think it's pretty reasonable to give them props for saying "hey we made an error here, let's make it right".OWEN is known to be fair and may make a mistake but will own up to them ..

Yea, rain element made it interesting for sure. It was manageable to run the race when the rain slowed down and the puddles were gone, unlike when they tried it at COTA. But the COTA deal was part of the learning process. They got it right this time.
rain or dry ..if u are a racer with talent u can over come the problem .. ... dirt racers do that very weekend .start out wet and slick ..

It was alright and only one real train wreck. I loved SVG, with his roots in dirt Sprints/Midgets, was able to get the win over the regulars. That was the best part of all, and golly-gee, he passed everyone clean!....No bump-n-run, no shoving out of the way, no door slamming.....While some, on the other hand, drove as usual, with head up rectum.
PART TIME road course drivers against a full time road course driver .. put him on a circle track he may have issues .. he showed alot of drivers how to do it .. had the two lead cars had tires he would not have had got to them with out a yellow .. .. but i was amazed at his driving abuility and jumping into a reverse car isnt all that easy .. ..... i wont question him on a road course .. who knows just how good that car was or how bad it was .. some drivers have the talent to figure how to get the most ..

WELL the wet track didnt really hurt the race .. it showed who the best drivers were or least the smartest ;; . ..

GLAD MARRY ANN IS OK ..after getting hit and knocked out at the track .. bad deal where four teams are bared ..

i was right for a change lol .. when u add owens at your track who runs two dirt tracks it isnt hard to bet against it happening .. that class in one the biggest around .. and we know many many drivers have raced at cc speedway kyle sas .snow ball dirby // and the like ... the class is on slicks .so why not .. being many of us have ran on slicks for years before we went to dirt is a plus against those who only ran those tires on dirt .. when we went to slicks we got some funny looks from drivers who saw us checking tire temps ...... . ... .. i think it would be a fun night for the drivers and the fans .. way to go hmp
