  1. Yup, just saw that announcement! Considering they were not very forthcoming with the actual location, sadly many saw this coming.
  2. Nick, my favorite was to take a piece of painted and capped PVC with a couple of wires, hose and a switch. Clamp it next to seat or behind the headrest where it could be seen. Folks would be so busy trying to figure that out, they would not see what we were really doing. i remember putting a window net in the right window with clear plastic sewed to it for one of the TWS races. Cotton Sherland and Bobby Castleberry shook their heads and said we needed to take it out. Never noticed we had not finished the firewall yet because we were late leaving for the track. Finished sealing the firewall before the first practice. LOL, fun times.
  3. Texas Grand Prix - Texas World Speedway - 1988 Ken Neal in the Freddy Fryar/Lyall Brothers car getting passed by Jack in the road course. (NOTE: photo is not mine! cannot remember the name of the photographer that took this shot. Will edit and give credit if I figure it out.)
  4. It is with a sad heart and great sadness to notify the Texas Racing Community we lost another Texas racer on December 31st. Jack Morris Sr., driver for years of the #73 Late Model at many tracks across the state, and the TIDA Late Model series passed. There was never a dull moment with Jack around the shop, on the road, or at the track. The man just loved to race and could do so much, with so little@ R.I.P. Jack Morris Sr.! Quoted from his son Jason's Facebook page: " ust want to let everyone know we lost a great man /father today. He would do anything for anybody and never asked for anything in return. Jack Morris Sr. was not only my dad but my hero and one tough son of a bitch ( excuse my French ) . I have seen him go through race car and motorcycle crashes and then be good within a few days . Sometimes it would take more than a couple of days but he would be right back at it . I know he will be missed by many don’t think that there was many people that he met that didn’t like him . Love you Pops ."
  5. ..the greatest cheat of them all, is to just make them think you are cheating by screwing with their head. Right Nick!
  6. I would love to see a new racing facility in the San Antonio Region, or the reopening of SAS in Marion. sadly, rebuildiing/recreating the old Hwy 16 property just does not sound legitimate. - property line to property line is less then 4/10th's of a mile on the long side. So a 1/4 mile dragstrip is completely not going to happen, at least not one with any ability to be sanctioned. They would need at least a 3/4 mile paved track. SAS in Marion was just under 3/4 mile. So the best we can hope for on that property would be a 1/8 mile track. - with that, it means completely demolishing what is left of the 1/2 mile oval. - dirt abatement with all the contamination on that site would be a nightmare. - there are currently 3 subdivisions on the Southwest side of the track. The closest house is right at 1/4 mile from turn one of the track and the bulk of the homes currently within a 1/2 - 3/4 mile distance from turn one. - the only way this could even remotely happen would be in full cooperation with the City of San Antonio, which now owns the property on the North Side of the Hwy 16 property. - sorry to be skeptical, but doing this on that old racetrack location just does not seem practical. - again, I would love seeing a operating dragstrip. I had just started building a straightline care for the 1st time in 30 plus years when the announcement of the SAS Marion track being shut down. Really hope something happens in the region.
  7. Property Currently is listed as belonging to: RT INDUSTRIAL HOLDONGS LLC Sale Date Listed as: 12/20/2021 according to the Guadalupe County Appraisal Office RT Industrial Holdings does not appear to be related to Aisin Texas in any public corporate records.
  8. Transaxles have been around for decades in Indy and like series. On a 1/4 mile bullring, no! But on the 1 1/2 to 2 mile tracks they should be just fine. The events in LA today were actually fun to watch. I miss the short track days. Sadly this was a one off event and they will start tearing that track apart tomorrow. But it was fun to watch, especially the 2nd crashfast last chance race. NASCAR lost its roots and is trying to be politically correct, and personally lost most interest. Next Gen cars, eh, we shall see what happens. But again, the politically correct crap has got to go. Let's get back to real racing.
  9. This is really kool stuff! Never knew there were so many raceways in Texas in the early 1900's! Love reading this!
  10. Our son worked the track Friday, Saturday and Sunday. They told to come this evening to be paid! Now they are telling him to come back on the 15th, wasting more fuel. I doubt he ever see's his money, much like friends of our son that worked there for over a month and was never paid. As much as I would love to see this facility survive, the current promoters are scam artist. They have screwed over so many that have gone there to work, and never been paid. I personally know at least 3 younger people, not including my son, that was never paid. My history in SA and Statewide is long gone, but I would have never put up with this!
