  1. The Browning Furlow Mod was in fact stolen after a race at the speedway. They had parked the rig at the shop location and were all out celebrating the win. About 45 to 60 days later the Suburban and trailer with the cut up car was found on an old shell county road in Ft, Bend County. The running gear as I remember it was gone. Several years later a guy came into Luther's machine shop with a motor and inquiring on how to tune the injectors and some additional work. Luther immediately recognized the motor as the one he had built for The Browning -Furlow mod several years back and called the PD along with Browning -Furlow and I never found out if any other parts were recovered. It was hard to believe that someone had cut up such a fine modified but its still happening today.
  2. I have to hunt them up Randy. I lost a lot of photos in 79 when I got flooded in Friendswood . I do have many from Almeda and other tracks but will have to make time and find them
  3. Norman drove an old studebaker or dodge and was a short guy and a lot of fun to be around. He got a lot of us together and we discussed the rules. We decided that we wanted the safety hub on the RF and Norman went to Hamblen and argued with him a couple of hours and bottom line was we all went to the 3/4 ton RF hub. Ed wanted the wrecks and we wanted to race and have some fun.
  4. .Charlie for the most ran mods and liked to run the big Lincoln motors. Another couple of names I havent seen on this site is Norman Cawthorn and LJ Honeycutt. We built him a 55 chev bronco that ran up front many times and I believe he drove for Paul Maire. It was a long time ago but thats how I remember it.
  5. This was some crazy stuff here. Evidently Ed Hamblin was wanting to mix it up a bit and dreamed up a hot dog race. We ran a few laps then got a flag and had to stop on the back straight and jump out of the car and eat a stale hot dog and drink a coke then get back in the car and buckle up and finish the race. I don't remember the guy on the left but next is Phil Chronin and behind him is Bob Foster then Tony Barcelona and I was first out. That was some really nasty dogs and Phil and Tony were having problems getting it down. I did the smart thing and dunked the dog in the coke which it immediately drank my coke it was so dry. We did have some fun though.
  6. Just some shots Mack's took but don't know what year these were done
  7. Top is Ray then Don Record who furnished cars and engines for us to build and race and William one of our helpers. Bottom Photo L to R is Frank who supplied tires, gas and oil then Sid Hoover-Ray -Maruice Hoffpowier and his cousin-We had 4 cars and Sid drove the 18 car for a while then Frank drove it some at Almeda when it was a 5/8 track
  8. This is a 1964 program best I can tell .Bill Blumrick was 1963 Champion and on the cover
  9. Thanks Randy--I didn't know you were Midget 85 but Thanks for the offer. I can do some scanning but I have many pictures and will start and do a few at a time. We were at the Niftee event Saturday but you were busy every time Carl and I passed and had your hands full so we didnt want to add to the confusion LOL It was a little cool but we figured it was going to be and had some heavy duty jackets. The show was good and a made the last event fun for every one that was there. Don't forget the January Lucky rod run. We have it in out plans "to do" and its always plenty of old hotrods there.
  10. The pictured 18 car was taken at Almeda and was owned by Ray W pictured by the car. I believe I have some shots of sid and will try to find them and scan.
  11. Yes, it's me and still hanging in there. I just found this forum while surfing the web. Interesting that its been here this long and I just found it. Funny thing is I have googled Meyers many times in the past and it never brought this forum up until yesterday.I have a old book with a lot of the old pictured from the speedway and will try to scan a few and post them.
  12. Been trying to get on this board for a while and finally got all the info to regester. I have quiet a few shots from meyers. I enjoyed reading all the older post and will start looking at the pictures tomorrow.
