Houston Motorsports Park A Brief History of Lone Star Speedzone

The highly-moderated Lone Star Speedzone forums have been a popular gathering spot for the Texas Stock Car racing community since 2002.

LSSZ was founded in 2002 by a Corpus Christi high school student and race fan named Jason Mutschler and christened Texas Speed Zone, a name that stuck until 2008 when the current Lone Star Speedzone name was adopted.

Jason and Nick Holt, the first LSSZ Moderator and now the site administrator, were not satisfied with the racing forums (bash forums, really) that had come into vogue at the time and decided to launch a racing forum that was clean, family-oriented and bash-free. The site became an instant success and has been operated under the same bash-free guidelines ever since.

About the time Jason enrolled in college, his free time vanished and he sold his interest in the site to Terry Dickerson, who was the lease-holder and promoter at the now-closed San Antonio Speedway and Nick took over the administrator role.

In late 2007 the site’s ownership transferred to Newstreamz, a San Marcos-based news organization owned by businessman Scott Gregson. Under the Newstreamz banner we became Lone Star Speedzone and added the live, interactive updates and produced a number of videos from different racing venues while continuing to add members and extend our reach.

In 2013 Nick assumed control of the site and enlisted the expertise and knowhow of Mark Stevens, a stock car racer and Director of Communications & Application Development at Oceaneering International. Mark has updated the forum software and moved the site from San Marcos to a more reliable server. Future plans call for live audio/video streams from selected racing events and expanded news coverage from Texas short tracks.

The site has an extensive reach with between 10,000 and 20,000 unique visitors logging onto the site every month and over 7,500 registered members, all with verified email addresses.

We welcome businesses to advertise on the site. Our rates are reasonable for the amount of traffic the site generates each month. For more information, contact Nick.
