NHRA TEXAS SPORTSMAN CHALLENGE LANDS AT HOUSTON RACEWAY PARK
Baytown, Texas (June 11, 2010) - Attention in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series will shift to Houston Raceway Park this weekend, June 11-13th, for the annual NHRA Texas Sportsman Challenge as hundreds of racers from across the country will make the trip to the fastest quarter-mile dragstrip in the Southeast for some of the closest and fastest side by side racing on the NHRA tour.
The staff at Houston Raceway Park has been hard at work prepping the facility for an action packed line-up of sportsman racing and a “Texas Showdown” themed exhibition and fireworks show. If witnessing Top Alcohol Dragsters and Funny Cars top 260mph is not enough speed to get your adrenaline fix, then race fans will sure be on the edge of their sit when Fran Peppler steers her Rock N Roll Thunder Jet Funny Car down the strip. We’ve even got Tony Caprio, the “Texas Bandit” and his Chevy S-10 Wheel Stander booked in for some fun on the pavement. There’s a bit of something for everyone in the family so load up the kids and bring them out to the race track for some out of school summer fun. And don't forget to bring your sun screen!

WHAT: Texas Sportsman Challenge is the second of five in South Central Division competition whereNHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series drivers earn points leading to divisional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $560,000. Categories include Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division’s Sunset RaceCraft Top Sportsman Series, TCI Comp Cams Top Dragster Series and NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley Davidson will also be run in conjunction with the event.

SCHEDULE: FRIDAY, June 11 - Gates open at 8 a.m. Qualifying and time trials begin at 9 a.m. Top Dragster, Top Sportsman and Comp Eliminator qualify at noon and 3 p.m. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car qualifying sessions are scheduled at 4:30 p.m.
SATURDAY, June 12 - Gates open at 8 a.m. Qualifying and time trials begin at 9 a.m. Top Dragster, Top Sportsman and Comp Eliminator qualifying is at noon and round one of eliminations at 6:30 p.m. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car qualifying is scheduled at 2 and round one of eliminations at 8 p.m.
SUNDAY, June 13 - Gates open at 8 a.m. Eliminations begin at 9 a.m. Round two eliminations for Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car begin at 11 a.m.
