GOOD STUFF. YOU FORGET HOW MUCH THINGS HAVE CHANGED UNTIL YOU LOOK AT SOME THESE. IT WAS SIMPLE BACK THEN COMPARED TO NOW.

That would have been a state-of-the-art helmet at the time.

I worked on a stock car # 21 at Big D Speedway in Grand Prairie from 1961 through 1963 or so and it was driven by Clayton Thomas and owned by R. B. Reese. I guess the stock cars raced on Friday nights and that on Saturday night was modified racing, we were always at Thunderbird Speedway in Crandall on Saturdays. Didn't know they ever had modified racing at Big D either because we were never there on Saturday nights, I'd forgotten they ran or it happened in an alternate universe.........most likely the forgotten choice. Shocking!!! laugh.gif

Sometime in the mix, the place went exclusively to street stocks and was inhabited by the same guys that did figure 8 racing across the road at Sportsdrome Speedway.

The more I think about this, the more it seem's something's fishy about it. Could there have been two Big D Speedways in that period? Just really don't remember modified racing at Big D in Grand Prairie.

Kevin (97car), is that George Hallman related to you?

Yes, he is my father. Yes the track was across from Sportsdrome at that time according to my dad. He said it paid pretty good for a the first year and a half and then the promoter paid like the others and the super modifieds left.
