DAVID STARR...Wow, WEDNESDAY was just awful for David and his team. They went out in Practice #1 and finished 30th fastest--David was BESIDE HIMSELF in frustration! He felt the truck actually handled well and drove well, he just didn't know where they could get more horsepower! AFter the 2nd practice on Wed., he just didn't know how things were going to go at Qualifying that night...You could SEE the frustration in his face..give the guys credit, though, that crew was working HARD to find out the problem! On Wed. night at qualifying, I was sitting in the stands with Chaz Glace and his lovely wife Kathy, and their two friends (Mike and Kathy) as David hit the track. We ALL held our breath as David took the warmup lap...then the green...fortunately (to us), David's first lap was 180-mph, a level we thought we at least put him in the middle of the field (which it did, he finished 23rd)...THURSDAY, David was feeling MUCH better, as they found the problem--a short in the ignition system! Whew! David did well in tonight's first practice session, then went out in the 2nd and posted the 7th-fastest time! Woohoo! And, since a few trucks (including Andy Houston) got tangled up in Practice #1 today and will have to move TO THE BACK OF THE PACK, David could wind up starting somewhere between 15-20th..Thank God for small favors, huh? David is going to try and be LIVE on our Sunday show...we found a place right across the street to do the broadcast, we'll have David on in the 1st segment if all goes well...
