24th Annual Tulsa Shootout This Weekend - Jan 1-3

December 31, 2008

Tulsa, OK (December 30, 2008) – Revelers will hardly be done ringing in the New Year when the engines fire to life for the first time in 2009 with the 24th Annual Tulsa Shootout at the QuikTrip Center’s Tulsa Expo Raceway this Thursday through Saturday.

A prelude to the upcoming 23rd Annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals presented by General Tire, the Tulsa Shootout features the racing stars of the future along with some already established veterans in a wild mix of Micro Sprint Cars, Go Karts and Quads.

The action gets under way on Thursday with Micro Sprint practice in the morning followed by heat race action. Then on Friday, the on track action shifts to Karts and Quads with morning practice followed by heat races.

Semi-mains for all classes get under way at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, with the Tulsa Shootout championship main events going green at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday evening.

Among the more than 400 entries in five Micro Sprint Car classes is defending 600cc Outlaw Tulsa Shootout champion Brady Bacon of Broken Arrow, OK. One of several drivers tuning up for the Chili Bowl after a top-ten finish last year, Bacon vies to become the first back-to-back Outlaw Micro Sprint winner since Pete Frazier accomplished the feat in 1993 and 1994.

The weekend of racing action will include 15 classes of Karts, five classes of Micro Sprint Cars and four classes of Quads.

Thursday and Friday pit passes are $40 for both days, with Saturday pit passes $30. General admission for Saturday evening’s 24th Annual Tulsa Shootout championship main events is $15 for adults and $5 for children, with the grandstands opening at 5:00 p.m. and main events going green at 6:00 p.m.

HRA files papers against San Antonio Raceway - Sanctioning body reportedly owed $764K from San Antonio Raceway

December 30, 2008

The IHRA has filed papers against Zimmer-Zampese and Associates (a.k.a. San Antonio Raceway) demanding payment of $764,000 allegedly owed for the 2008 national event as well as canceling a ten-year contract with the sanctioning body in Houston Federal Court, this according to a newswire for lawyers.

IHRA President Aaron Polburn was vague in his description of the issue with CompetitionPlus.com citing only, “We are having some issues with San Antonio Raceway.”

Polburn declined any other details of the pending legal case.

CompetitionPlus.com attempted to contact San Antonio Raceway for comment but all calls were directed to voicemail and was unable to leave a message because the mailbox was full.

According to a source close to the situation, Zimmer-Zampese and Associates were given a window of time in which to respond to the request for money and as this story is posted, are still within the legal window in which to do so.

“We have served notice there is money owed to us and it needs to be paid,” Polburn concluded.

Mini Stocks making their debut at Thunderhill Raceway in 2009

December 16, 2008

KYLE, TX – In today’s economic situation, everyone is looking for more affordable ways to do things – and Thunderhill Raceway is no exception.

Starting with the 2009 racing season, Thunderhill Raceway will be introducing a new “Mini Stock” class to bring a new, affordable opportunity to potential racers.

The Mini Stocks will be a novice class that consists of domestic or imported compact, front-wheel drive cars. These cars will be completely factory stock, with safety modifications only. An unaltered VIN plate must be on the vehicle – along with the factory installed engine, transmission, wheels, etc. No aftermarket parts of any kind will be allowed.

A few safety modifications will be required – including a four-point roll cage, driver door bars and a window net. A racing seat and five-point racing harness are highly recommended.

“If you’ve always wanted to be a race car driver and you don’t want to spend a lot of money, here’s your chance to be a part of the action,” said Rick Day, Race Director at Thunderhill Raceway. “You can find a lot of great deals on this type of car and spend a minimal amount of time and money to get it ready to race.”

The detailed rules for this new class will be announced at the Drivers’ Rules and Registration meeting on Saturday, November 22, at 4 p.m., in the THR Garage Lounge. Drivers will be able to register and reserve a car number for this new class at this meeting. The complete schedule for 2009 will also be announced during the meeting.

Thunderhill Raceway is a 3/8-mile, asphalt D-shaped oval track that’s located at 24801 IH-35, just north of San Marcos (TX) near Yarrington Road (Exit #210).
